Terrible, overpriced prison cell, we booked a few nights but only stayed 1, cut out losses and went to a nice hotel. Rip off and terrible service. Had to give a score out of 5 so gave a 1 because it would not allow -5. No windows or ventilation, the pillow was like a rock and the so called mattress...

This place has nothing to offer other than it is a 10 minute walk from the station. Mattresses pillows too hard ie rigid. Put jumpers in pillowcase. Tiny room no window decidedly dungeon like. Look elsewhere

Booked a private sgl room with ensuite bathroom. Good for a solo traveller or 2 the most, recommended luggage size: 2 x 24" or 1 x 28". Was brought to another building BJ Family Inn, newer n cleaner. Convenient, about 8-10mins walk from Kyoto Main station. 3mins walk to Shichijo stn, 5mins walk to Mcdonald's/Family Mart/superb Sushi shop, next door...

Incredibly overprized for what u get. The room is 3x3 m. No windows on the outside, just one on a tiny corridor. No chairs, just 2 very uncomfortable tatami and a 30 cm little table. The tatami were so uncomfortable that it was like sleeping on the naked rock. The pillow is a granite monolith so i've used my hoodie...

We had the only room with its own bathroom. Toilet and shower is in the hall. The proprietor tries very hard to please with what she has. If you just need a good cheap place to sleep then have at it. its about a 15 min walk from Kyoto train station so be prepared. There are no restaurants or shops...

We paid over the odds for a very small room (3 tatami mats) complete with glow-in-the-dark wallpaper(!) with shared bathroom and no breakfast. It's basically a family home run single-handedly by a Japanese lady. The place is very clean and the shared facilities are adequate. A kitchen is also available. The window was about 5cm from the neighbouring building, so...

Deserves only 1 star; would not recommend even with its moderate price. The relatively moderate price is still too high for what you’re getting. The "double room" was very small- just large enough to fit the double sized futon and a little breakfast tray table. The pictures of the living room and kitchen were misleading b/c they were very cluttered...

The station is about a 15 minute walk away. It was here and here only where my partner and i felt uneasy about the place we were...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
