Great hotel and staff! The experience of staying in a traditional Japanese hotel was worth the price. The hotel was very tranquil, we never felt rushed and the staff was superb. A special thank you to Ms. Maumi Hosoo for helping with the bus reservation to the Osaka airport. She went out of her way to print out a picture of where we pick up the tickets and where we board the bus. In this day and age, it is rare you encounter such fantastic service. The rest of the front desk staff was equally helpful. They made dinner reservations and called cabs as requested. They would explain to the taxi driver exactly where we were to be dropped off. The breakfast was excellent as well. We had traditional Japanese breakfast the first two days and then a more western style breakfast. Both types were superb. Was happy we stayed at this hotel.

When visiting Kyoto we stayed at the Sako No Hotel.. It was wonderful - set back from the streets in an historic district and replete with gardens and pathways. There is a large lobby with garden view, easy check in and friendly staff (so helpful with recommendations). We had a western style room with a very comfortable queen size bed and seating area. The bathroom included a shower and a deep tub for traditional bathing. We spent time with our family in the large lounge which provided snacks, coffee and tea and at night wine etc, and it also included a small iibrary. We had the Kaiseki dinner and Japanese breakfast - a tasty introduction to Kyoto. Many sites were walkable and taxis easily accessible for farther travels.Highly recommended.

Loved this hotel. The room was quiet, so comfortable, great bathroom and a traditional wooden tub. Staff were superb - friendly and helpful about a number of requests, managing taxis for us, thrilled to learn that my daughter and her beau got engaged at Ginkakuji and creating a special congratulatory dessert for them. The immediate neighborhood is not special, but temples, shrines and other great places within walking distance (admittedly, that can be said for almost anywhere in Kyoto!)

Truly one of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. The location is impeccable. The hotel room is such a beautiful blend of historical tatami and modern comfort. I also really enjoyed the sake bath and the tea lounge. They have all the amenity, including self-service washing machine. The staff are all amazing. Some of the them speak fluent English and those who do not speak much English are always ready to use a voice translator on their phon - communication was easy for us. I highly recommend this place for anyone looking to visit north Kyoto and I will surely stay here again on my next trip.

Highly recommend. It is a very Japanese experience, but in more of a hotel venue. Very traditional in that everyone wears Japanese robes and PJs around the property (really cool experience). The meals are uniquely Japanese (breakfast was tremendous)!. The location can't be beat, very walkable to best parts of Kyoto. Staff was great. Rooms were spacious.

saka no hotel has just opened, so there are bound to be some bumps in the road, but overall, we had a great stay here. everything is brand new, so it's super clean and tidy. we splurged and got the largest room that has a private rotenburo (outdoor bath). you can book just the room or get a meal plan with brekky or brekky+dinner - we got the latter. the stay definitely cost a pretty penny, but it wasn't outside the norm of what other high-end ryokans charge. food used beautiful seasonal ingredients, and you could taste the difference in something as simple as the rice. the staff were all very considerate and accommodating , and even if there were very minor missteps (or what they considered as missteps, like not being able to explain a dish - wasn't too big of a deal to us), you could tell they were trying, and the general manager (im sorry i couldnt get his name) was doing all he could to make us feel comfortable and to teach the staff. Location-wise, it's pretty good, right next to kiyomizudera and a couple scenic streets. kyoto station is about a 10-15 minute cab ride. it is in the eastern part of the city though, so places like arashiyama and kinkakju are across the city. a family mart convenience store is a 3-minute walk away, to stock up on snacks and munchies. all in all, we had an awesome stay here. hope to come back one day.

Fantastic location, for Kyoto. A real highlight of our two weeks in Japan. The hotel is in the middle of the main historic sights but is an oasis of calm. The Kaiseki set menu in the evenings was amazing and incredible value for money, I highly recommend trying the local beers and sake. Very modern and clean take on a traditional hotel, but without changing the character or style of the old town.

I just love how it is located right behind the main area, and in a very quiet neighbourhood. Everything is within 15 mins walk.
The semi Outdoor bath is nice and relaxing. The lounge service is good.
I could feel the breakfast is prepared with love and care. How touching it is!

If I could give this hotel 10 stars, I would. From the moment we stepped onto the property, we were treated like rock stars. This is a new hotel so it was hard to find for the taxi driver from Kyoto Train Station. It is situated on a side street but still a great location to walk to different attractions (Gion district, temples, etc). The service here is impeccable! The staff wait on you from start to finish. The rooms are very spacious with a comfortable bed and great amenities (robes, tatamis, slippers, socks, coffee, tea, water). The private onsen is a plus and very relaxing. The breakfast was excellent! Overall, this hotel is excellent!

I have been to Kyoto more than 5 times staying in 5 different hotels, including modern Westin and traditional ryokan, and this is the best hotel experience I have had.

What's amazing: their service, with everyone trying their best from their heart. Just one example: we needed to wrap our kaiseiki dinner early to prepare baby to sleep, and the server made two rice balls from our remaining rice and delivered along with our desserts we skipped personally to our room. Unforgettable and deeply touched!

What's great: tranquil facility, in room sake bath, delicious food, convenient lounge, easy walk to Kiomitsu Dera and Gion

What could be better: it wasn't easy for us to locate the entrance when checking in with lots of luggage. Maybe consider having a small arrival bell to seek help for arriving guest? Once we find the front desk everything is amazing.

Will 100% stay here again and highly recommend to others!
