Me and my girlfriend traveled to Japan in June of 2018 and stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. We missed a train from Hiroshima to Kyoto so we were late to checking in, after hours late. Fortunately the nice hotel staff person stayed after hours waiting for us to arrive. The rooms were amazing! Plenty of space, very clean, and had a traditional Japanese setting which we loved. This is close to Bamboo Forest, the River, and Monkey Park amongst other things. The restaurant downstairs was amazing too, great Hamburgers and staff. As an American who likes basic foods and from Los Angeles, the cheeseburger capitol, the burgers met and exceeded my expectations. The staff was great as they were very friendly and chatted with us in English. We will be back there in 2021 and definitely staying at The Grand West Arishiyama.…
Our family with one child traveled together from Hong Kong. The hotel staff received the children's chair from Amazon order and sent into the room. Very BIG room and clean. When I checked out, I left screws and instructions in my room. I highly appreciate that hotel sent all things to Hong Kong with free charge. I was surprised at such a WONDERFUL service. I will stay at this hotel in the next cherry blossom season. This hotel has no elevator and 3 levels only.
We had the best time at the GrandWest. Our family of five felt so comfortable and taken care of by the kind staff (particularly Yuriko, who calmly dealt with hot chocolate spills and lots of luggage). The room was beautiful and spacious, the roof deck with a cozy tent was a great spot in the evening, the games and toys for the kids made them feel at home...we were so sorry to leave! Thank you so much for everything!
Stunned by the room style and amenities, I felt so lucky o have found this hotel. I booked the day before I stayed and everything was just too good to be true - walking distance to the bamboo forest and the street of famous Kyoto delicacies, the staff were as friendly and helpful as I found in other 5-star hotels, the amenities blew my mind away and my experience in staying here was fantastic. Will definitely be back!
My family of five with 3 kids 18-21 picked this hotel for its proximity to west Kyoto sightseeing and single room accommodations for 5. We fit easily into the clean "western style" room with modern Japanese styling and were treated to a beautiful view of the hills, friendly service, and a relaxing stay. We could have stayed longer!
Very friendly reception, good english. Great room with 4 beds for family of 4. Very easy walk from Arashiyama station. Arashiyama bamboo grove was wonderful. Restaurant downstairs was great for dinner, but limited menu so unless you love burgers only good for one night. There is a Lawson's convenience store 2 min walk down the road. The have complimentary bikes for hire, including for kids
This hotel was absolutely fantastic. The staff is so welcoming and helpful you will feel at home in no time. The location is great, very close to the bamboo forest, bridge, and monkey park. The hotel has a little burger place downstairs with a wonderful local craft beer selection. Would highly recommend to all travelers!
Super clean, great rooms in a friendly hotel. Traveling with 2 adult “children” it was an ideal location. Rooms are bigger than the average Japanese size. Good air con in June in the rooms meant we stayed cool in the heat. Would recommend for the welcoming service on its own.
Fantastic all round, I cannot fault it! Excellent location, clean, comfortable and well stocked with all the things you needs such as tea and shampoo etc.. The front desk guy was extremely lovely and friendly, he helped us find the best places to visit and met our every need.
Very pleased I found this place, it balances experiencing Japan (kimonos and calligraphy in the rooms) with Western comforts (staff speak decent English, restaurant downstairs does excellent Western food with a Japanese twist). Rooms look brand new in terms of decoration! I had heard that Japanese people are friendly and helpful, and the Grandwest exemplifies that. It's not too far to walk into Arashiyama and theres a good café doing breakfast 5 minutes away (Yado café). Note that there are actually 3 train stations in Arashiyama and if you go to the JR one you'll be a long tiring walk from the hotel. Instead go to Hankyu Arashiyama station and the hotel will be a very short walk. I will definitely come back.
