Extremely good air conditioning. Comfortable beds. Room could do with somewhere to store your luggage and clothes. Location a little way out, but this is reflected in the price. Breakfast disappointing. They had two types of breakfast; Japanese or Western.. however both are Japanese. They should be quite nice but on two days my party had them served cold. The coffee was not high quality and despite having a proper machine they did not use it.

I’d stay at the hotel again but have breakfast at the little school bus place round the corner

We recently stayed here for 5 nights (we are a family of 6. 4 boys, aged 22, 20, 17, and 14). We booked 2 Western Style room (3 twin beds). You actually have a door for the room and then step out with a door for the bathroom. It is not all in one room, which was fine. Be advised that the rooms are tiny in regards to what we typically have in the US. It is very crowded in the room. We actually had to store our suitcases in the hallway between our room and bathroom. The rooms are immaculately clean as is the hotels. The staff are friendly and helpful. The breakfast was 'Kyoto Style". This included: white rice, a small piece of fish, and two other things that I could not identify. Also, coffee and juice. I am not really familiar with, nor care for Japanese food like this. Not very adventurous. We had hoped for more like we are used to. You may love this offering. I'm trying to provide as much information as possible. All in all, it is a wonderful hotel and I would definitely recommend it. God location to get to train.

Thank you very much for staying with us, also giving us the good rate. A layout of the room you stayed is old Japanese style which is bathroom and bedroom in a separate room, and this is not very familiar with most of customers, so if you felt uncomfortable with staying in this room, we are very sorry. Also, regarding the breakfast, we currently offer Kyoto style meal only, but thank you for your feedback. We hope you had a great time in Kyoto and hopefully in our hotel as well. Again look forward to seeing you in the near future. Thanks a lot!

We stayed here for three nights while visiting Kyoto and loved it.

The rooms are very modern yet in a traditional Japanese style. The bed is on the floor but it's a great size and very comfortable! Japanese slippers and sleepwear was provided and was a great touch.

The hotel is located right next to Kyoto Imperial Palace that has some gorgeous gardens to walk round. Bus stops and subways are located within less than a minutes walk and was perfect for getting around.

The staff were extremely lovely and helpful. There are no coffee facilities in your room but coffee is available 24 hours from a machine in the lobby that is free to use. The breakfast was also traditional Japanese and very good! A quirk of the hotel is that it has a large open kitchen for guests to use to make their own meals if you wish to - we didn't use it but seen other people doing so, thought it was a great thing to have on offer!

On check in we were asked to pay a bedroom tax that is levied in Kyoto, we hadn't been made aware by our travel agent but it only worked out as around £7 GBP, so next to nothing and no big deal - just a heads up that you might not have been told about it beforehand. The hotel is pretty new and incredibly well maintained. There are nice views from the rooftop seating area as well, although it isn't high as Kyoto has a restriction on how tall buildings can be. It feels very modern but holds to traditional Japanese styles. We really enjoyed our stay here and would definitely stay again if we return to Kyoto!

First positives, good location for exploring Kyoto.
Hotel is clean tidy and comfortable however the bedrooms are tiny! I mean tiny. Just enough room to walk past bed. The bathroom was really good with a wet room with shower and a bath.
Nowhere for your luggage at all. The bed was comfortable though
The breakfast was poor in my opinion, one drink only with coffee or fruit juice not both and a bread roll with the tinniest bit of butter I have ever seen! We ate out the other 2 mornings.
Staff were welcoming and friendly and we had sent our suitcases on from Tokyo and they had stored them for 2 days. However we asked if they could call a taxi for us and they refused and said we wouldn’t get one so we downloaded a taxi app and got one in a couple of minutes.
It does have a lounge area but we only used it to fill up our water bottles.
I wouldn’t stay again unfortunately it just wasn’t for us

Hotel is new, rooms are clean, but internet is very weak; during our 2 nights we had to use data roaming ... no comment !

Regarding breakfast the first day, we were told that a big group was there, hence we couldn't take it in the hotel and we were invited to go outside!

If your main objective is to optimise touristic places visits, pick a hotel at the main Railway station, much more convenient.

This is a very good hotel. It has the traditional bedroom so you sleep on futons but with a clean, modern and new bathroom which is exactly what you want if you want to experience modern Kyoto living. The futon does take a little getting use to though so may not be for everyone - we found it a little uncomfortable to be honest but others may disagree. The bathroom and WC was also outside of the room (still private though so it was not like it was shared with others) so you had to make sure you bought the keypass with you (else you will get locked out). Staff are young, enthusiastic, trendy and hip which suits the hotels image. Additionally as mentioned by others, there is a communal area on the first floor that has the full kitchen, fridge and cooking utensils if you wish to cook food. A coffee machine is also provided after 12PM but you have to bring your own mug from within your room. There are also board games and a big television so it is very family friendly as well. Location is excellent as it is very close to the subway and other restaurants (Maccas across the road even) and just 2 stops to Shijo station. Highly recommended

It’s easy to get about in Kyoto from this hotel. It’s a couple of minutes walk to the subway or bus stops.

Hotel is very modern with a minimalist feel. Our room was on the small side but was nicely furnished and had everything we needed including a small fridge. The reception staff were very friendly and helpful.

The shared areas were good. Reasonably equipped kitchen which was ideal for breakfast. Not sure if you would manage to prepare a full meal in it. Coffee machine you could help yourself to and lots of dining space.

They encourage you to think about the environment in terms of room cleaning and give you a notice to put on your door if you don’t wish to have your room cleaned that day. Cleaning staff then leave a bag with fresh towels, toothbrushes and water bottles hanging on your door. Whilst I commend the effort in asking guests to think more eco friendly, I think the policy of ‘rewarding’ this with two free plastic bottles of water is counter productive and needs to be rethought. Perhaps a water cooler could be installed in the kitchen area to allow guests to refill their carry bottles.

Overall we thought this hotel was good value for money and we liked the location.

A fantastic location with excellent access to most of what Kyoto has to offer. Very efficient and friendly staff with a good coffee bar. Very large rooms with a, very much appreciated, large bathroom too including dimming LED's.

Only real complaints would be that the window in our room did not open and Wi-Fi was quite poor. We stayed in a modern room but I wish we had of opted for a traditional room. Rooms are spacious, shower amenities high quality and beds comfortable, though there is a lack of storage for your suitcases.

Hotel is just around the corner of Marutamachi Station Exit 4 is the closest but if you have heavy luggage, you can take elevator at Exit 5 & cross the road. There’s not too much happening in the area. There are way more shops & cafes near Karasuma Oike Station which is one station away. The hotel itself is very new so rooms are in good condition. We stayed 3 nights in a Japanese style triple room & it was spacious for 2 but would be cramped for 3 people. We totally understand other reviewers’ frustration with the bathroom, it is your own private bathroom next to your room but you must exit your room to use it & must remember to take your keycard otherwise you’d be locked out of your room. We found this really quite annoying & inconvenient especially if you need to pee in the middle of the night. The bathroom itself is good, great water pressure & small but comfortable bathtub. Another thing we didn’t like was their housekeeping policy. You are encouraged to be environmentally friendly & only request towels change & not bedding change which is fine & what we usually do anyway. However if you don’t go for this option you can not get 2 bottles of complimentary water. This made it feel more like the hotel was just being tight. Also there was no kettle, coffee or tea in the room but there were mugs & you are encouraged to bring your own mug down to the 1/F to get complimentary coffee. There was a lovely little table & cushions in the room perfect to have a cup of tea/coffee but it wasn’t convenient to go down to get coffee & bring back up to the room again. We understand if it was a hostel but this was still a hotel & we paid HK$1500 per night for our room. Breakfast was not included either & their roof top was under construction. Having said that, the staff were friendly & very helpful especially Barbie at the front desk who helped us secure a restaurant booking & WhatsApp us with detailed information. We don’t think we’d stay here again as there are many other design hostels/hotels in Kyoto with better location & value for money.

Clean, modern, different and special, and a good location. Rooms are spacious. Very nice and helpful people. Brand new is a great plus!
Be aware of the bathroom being outside of the bedroom, so remember to bring your keycard.

Answer from RAKURO
The closest station to our hotel is the Marutamachi Station, and about 2 minutes walk from the station. Also, you can take a taxi from the Kyoto Station if you need. It takes about 12-15 minutes and costs about ¥1,500. Please tell the driver "Karasuma-Maruta, Ryougae-machi", if this will be easier for you. We are looking forward to seeing you!

Hi. Standard 3 Japanese style has private external bath and toilet. Bed room and shower room is in a separate room, but these are very close each other. Just 3 steps away from the door to door. The other room, Standard 3 room (western Japanese style) has private internal bath. everything is inside the room. Hope you understand my explanation. Thank you! Sincerely yours, Yuuta Kume
