A stroll away from the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Nazuna Kyoto Gosho is a "Wagashi" (traditional Japanese confections) themed luxury "Ryokan" (Japanese-style inn) spanning across two, large scale "Kyomachiya" (traditional Kyoto-style townhouse) adjoined at the center by a Japanese garden. Upon stepping into Nazuna Kyoto Gosho, you will discover a lobby with expansive ceilings that have been preserved from when the space was once used as warehouse for grand pieces of lumber. The lobby branches off into guest rooms, each designed differently with their very own "Wagashi" theme. Further in, the lobby opens into a Japanese garden where guests may enjoy the seasons of Kyoto. Through the garden is the second "Kyomachiya,"replete with a another, diverse collection of "Wagashi" themed guest rooms, as well as a hall where guests may enjoy a Japanese breakfast in the morning, or complimentary beverages ranging from wine to "Shochu" (traditional Japanese liquor) in the evening.

Cannot recommend Nazuna Kyoto Gosho enough. Everything here is of the highest standard.

Upon arrival the introduction to the background of this establishment will give you context of how this amazing place came to be.

The atmosphere throughout is just outstanding. Traditional Ryokan feel but with modern minimalistic design and fittings. HEATED FLOOR to indulge your feet with!

5-10 minutes walk to subway station that gets you everywhere you need to go.

Staff was lovely and very accommodating. The breakfast is fantastic, served by staff dedicated to you and cooked infront of you.

Will definitely stay here again.

Booked this hotel right after the announcement that Japan was reopening to foreign travel. Found this gem online and booked for 3 nights in the twin room Yatsuhashi. I’m not used to boutique hotels so it was different staying at a seven room hotel instead of a commercial hotel with hundreds of rooms. Staff was great from the moment my brother and I walked through the front door. Check in was done in the rear of the hotel at the lounge area while we were served tea. Green tea was very good. The staff went over all of the property’s policies and facilities. Staff spoke English well enough that I never had to use my not so great Japanese skills during our stay.

Our room was on the second floor and the staff took our luggage upstairs while we were checking in. We were told that we shouldn’t wear our outsides shoes/boots around the room so we abided by the policy. There’s a little area in your room to remove and store shoes. The hotel offered slippers but none fitted my US 12 size feet comfortably so I wore socks around. The bathroom was gorgeous. It had a rain fall shower and a Hinoki, Japanese cedar, wood tub. Easily my favorite feature was the tub.

The beds were very comfortable and the room guide stated they were Simmons brand. Pillows and comforter were nice. The room’s climate control worked well as the temperature outside fluctuated widely. Loved the room and would definitely stay again. It was nice staying at such a small hotel as I became familiar with the staff and it was nice seeing a familiar face greet you after a long day of walking.

My brother and I enjoy the area of Kyoto we’re this property is located as it’s quiet and close to the Imperial Palace Park. Marutamachi subway station is a 5 minute walk away. Was able to get my suitcase forwarded to Kyoto Station on checkout day so I was free to get in some more sightseeing the last afternoon before taking the Shinkansen back to Tokyo!

My boyfriend and I stayed here Feb 2019 and I still think about how peaceful and beautiful our stay was. The hot bath was convenient and well taken care of - a must after our long day walking in the cold rain around Fushimi-Inari. Great location to get to the trains and restaurants. The breakfast was delicious and a must-do! The staff were amazing too and made us feel very welcomed (we had gotten engaged during our stay so people congratulated us when they saw us, they all knew I liked manga etc.) It was an unforgettable experience and I loved the design and smell of the entire place. It's was very cozy.

We spent 3 nights at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho and it was just wonderful. A lovely authentic ryokan but with all the luxuries of a modern hotel. It was so comfortable and calming! Great location to explore Kyoto yet down a very quiet side street.
Beds were so comfortable and bathrooms very stylish whilst maintaining authenticity to the original building.
I would absolutely recommend the breakfast - it's a whole performance and delicious!
Finally I would like thank all the staff for being so so friendly and helpful at all times. Nothing was too much trouble for them and they were always on hand to help in every way with a smile.
I would highly recommend this to anyone wanting a luxury ryokan experience in Kyoto.

Thank you for staying at Nazuna Kyoto Gosho. Our hotel is located in the centre of town, but in a relatively quiet area with a rich history. Access to tourist attractions is good and there are restaurants in the area. Our beds are made by Simmons for a good night's sleep. We are very happy to help make your stay even more wonderful. At breakfast, seasonal vegetables are grilled on the irori so they are very fresh and tasty. We hope to welcome you back to Nazuna when you come to Kyoto again. We look forward to seeing you again. We had a very great time staying at the hotel. Especially the service, we have been treated professionally and warmly by the Terumi. He provided a very smooth check in process and also handmade sweets to expose the Kyoto culture even though there has a language barrier between English and Japanese. Cons will be the breakfast; The food doesn’t match the price

This Ryokan style accommodation is close to one of my best stays. There are 7 rooms each with different arrangement. We had an incredibly room with separate lounge and bedroom and private garden. The bathroom was excellent. The team look after you and the breakfast delivers a traditional flavour. The position is within a quiet part of Kyoto so lovely feel during day and night but still close to the main shopping area and the train is close by to get to the various sites. There are some great local restaurants close by or there are many more not far away. One of the big advantages of Kyoto is that if feeling up to it can also walk from this central position.

Tucked behind a small frontage you will find yourself in a chic and somewhat modern Ryokan. The rooms retain traces of if it's time as a lumberyard and provides a authentic experience. The rooms are spacious and in conjunction with contemporary interiors they create a harmonious liveable space. Venue provides lots of complimentary items such as snacks and alcohol, they also provide a 24 hour space where these snacks and drinks can also be accessed.

We had a delightful stay at this modern ryokan. The staff were so friendly and helpful. They even took the time to give us a handwritten note (complete with charming drawings) with suggestions for our daytrip to Osaka. The daily Japanese breakfast, served at either 7:30 am, 8:30 am, or 9:30 am, was delicious and getting to chat with the staff each morning was a highlight. Our room was comfortable and spacious, and we had easy access to points of interest, public transportation, and restaurants. We look forward to returning!

While I'm writing this review I'm enjoying the fresh air of the private garden listening to the sound of the rain. This is the only sound you'll be able to listen here, the neighborhood is very peaceful and quiet. It's a perfect getaway for couples. We got the Kuzukiri room for one night but let me tell you, worth it. The room is so comfortable, the semi open bath is amazing, a great way to improve your stay. The meals are well served, dinner and breakfast, both traditional Kyoto cuisine to experiment Japan at its finest. The staff is very nice, very attentive. They've made us feel like we were royals for one day.
