Very close to Kyoto station (follow the directions they send you which is super helpful), easy check-in and check-out, and handy communal kitchenette area with fridge and kettle. Capsule Ryokan Kyoto made a very good base for exploring Kyoto and the surrounding area as train lines and buses are close by and can get you everywhere. Would stay here again!

This is an excellent base for exploring Kyoto, 5 minutes from Kyoto Station and within walking distance of many central districts. It's also well connected with bus stops if you prefer not to walk. I must note that the staff here are so helpful and welcoming! They gave us a small map with helpful directions and restaurant suggestions when we... More

Excellent location with great access to major landmarks, Capsule Ryokan is just a stones throw from Kyoto station. There are lots of convenience stores and places to eat near by. The staff were lovely and very, very helpful. The information booklet they provide covers everything from where to eat to visit itineraries. Towels and basic necessities are free. Rooms are... More

1.When I checked in a bit late, about 10 pm. I asked the staff on duty named Kazu how to check-in.He just said all the information was in the envelope on the gate , whose attitude and mood seemed impatient . That gave me a bad impression for the first time visiting Kyoto. 2.Capsule room was noisy and crowded, I could... More

This hotel is packed with cleanliness, great service and good location. Stay 3 days here and I find no flaw during the stay. Especially want to thank Mr. Masau, Kasu and his friend, which helping us a lot and provide us medical support, as we injured during the tour.

Capsule Ryokan Kyoto is a convenient place to stay, around 10 minutes of walk from the biggest transport station Kyoto Station. The staff are very helpful, and the wifi service is efficient too. I think my friends and I will remember the moment we get to change to the traditional japanese costume for free of charge in the capsule.

I really wanted to stay in a Ryokan and I really didn't think I could afford it. I found Capsule Ryokan Kyoto that offers an amazing deal and space to the budget traveler. This hotel has the greatest shower I have ever used, ever! Even better it was in the room which lent a bit of whimsy to the room.... More

The room was great with a cool shower and the bathroom was separate. I stayed alone in a room that could host two - but I put the two mattresses together and had a lovely sleep. Front desk was nice and they thought of all the small details. Close to the station and other great places. Would stay here again... More

My husband and I stayed at the Capsule Ryokan hotel at the end of Oct 2016 for 3 nights. We stayed in one of their rooms that has a shower in the room. The room wasn't too expensive for the location. The hotel staff spoke English well and were very helpful. There's a map at the front desk of all... More

This is a great place to stay if you want to explore Kyoto. A basic but great place within walking distance from the station and a bus stop. Also close to two large tempels and even walking distance to Nijo Castle.

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
