My wife and I visited Kyoto for the first time and spent 6 nights at this hotel the first week of September. It really exceeded our expectations which were high given the positive reviews I had read while making our travel arrangements.

All members of the staff, the physical property, the location and the service are/were excellent.

Our room was good size, very clean and comfortable in every way, had very good WiFi, very comfortable large king bed, a great high pressure shower and very good air conditioning, which was important during a very hot, humid week. And we appreciated that it had a large, very secure in-room safe to store our valuables.

We took advantage of the excellent buffet breakfast most mornings... selection, quality and service...all terrific.

We thought the location of the hotel was ideal for walking to see many of the the sights of Kyoto and for leveraging the subway to get to the outskirts of the city and to get to Kyoto Station for a day trip to Hiroshima and Miyajima Island. The Gion area is just a couple minutes away, as well as just across the river and a 5 minute walk is the Pontocho District where we enjoyed dinner on several nights. And it was nice to have a 24 hour convenience store (Family Mart) and a British pub (Pig & Whistle) almost across the street.

Kyoto is a wonderful city and the Dhawa Yura is a great hotel choice for enjoying it in every way. And given it's high quality and the nightly room rate we paid, it is an excellent value.

We would be delighted to stay at this hotel on future visits to Kyoto.

The staff at Kyoto Yura Hotel MGallery were very accommodating and exhibited a gracious hospitality. Upon check in, the staff offered us a comfortable place to sit and refreshments while they prepared all the necessary items for check in. They also received and arranged for transfer of our luggage onward to Tokyo with the Taqqubin service.

We stayed in a standard room which was comfortable enough for two but a little tight with larger pieces of luggage. Next visit to Japan I will just leave excess things like pajamas and kick around clothes at home as the Kyoto Yura provided comfortable PJs, toiletries like toothbrush, razors, combs.

Location was near a subway station and many restaurants and cafes across the river. Walking distance to Gion district. No comment on breakfast as we did not eat at the hotel restaurant. Public areas of the hotel were well appointed, especially with the indoor bamboo grove.

My husband and I are fans of M gallery of the Ascott Group. This one comes in top!! Location is excellent. Just a short walk away from gion.

It is a modern hotel with traditional touch! The rooms are nicely sized and extremely comfortable. The staff were really good and helpful too. We love how by 2nd day, the house keeping staff noticed we have baby and prepared a set of extra towels, kids bedroom slippers and kids toothbrush too! How thoughtful!! Overall, we enjoyed our stay very much. Special thanks to Francesca for helping us check in and doing some kaiseki research for us!

We stayed in Yura hotel in February 2020 while we were traveling Japan and it was very very good.
Not only the staff was super nice but also the rooms and the common areas were outstanding.
Location wise also worked great for us as it is quiet enough but also close and at a walkable distance from various of the must-see points and areas.

We were unsure if this hotel would suit us when we booked but the Banyan Tree association gave us confidence that it should be OK. It as above OK, lovely arrival greeting and the hotel being boutique in size was warm with lovely local touches.

Check-in was slick and friendly and the hotel facilities were explained. We liked the small lobby lounge area where you could have coffee/tea any time free of charge.

We booked a Yura Suite and were very pleased with the layout and size. Entrance lobby led in to a nice lounge with sofa and one chair, large TV off this was a good size bedroom with a huge bed, leading from the bedroom was a very well appointed bathroom with double sink, bath and walk-in shower, the products were Clarins (very nice). Finally there was a separate walk-in wardrobe with plenty of hanging space and other storage and a good sized area for luggage also a security safe. If staying a little while in Kyoto this room was idea.

We loved the location, ideal for public transport and when calling an Uber it arrived very quickly due to the hotel location. It was easy to walk to many popular areas such as Gion (less than 10min walk), Nishiki Market (15mins) and many of the temples. I think it would be hard to find anywhere better positioned for the price.

We are on the first evening in the hotel restaurant, it was a shame they did not offer a few Japanese options however, we had the tasting menu and it was superb. The prices were acceptable and service was quick and friendly. Breakfast was a mix of Japanese and western dishes mainly buffet although they did take egg orders at the table and came around with tea and coffee.

Before we came to the hotel we contacted them for advice and support in booking transport and drivers for sightseeing and everything they arranged was on time and without any surcharges.

We booked two deluxe twin rooms for 3 nights, as part of our trip to Japan. The property is run by Accor / Sofitel and is beautifully architected and tastefully furnished, located near the Sanjo Keihan metro station, just few blocks away from the Teramachi shopping arcade. We were lodged in rooms 433 and 405 (both corner rooms). After some initial difficulty with the ventilation in room 433 (did not warm up) we were moved to room 423 on the opposite corner of the same floor, which proved perfect for the stay. Comfortable, elegant, great service, wonderful staff. The internal bamboo garden in the basement is a must see artistic twist. As a sidebar: on March 8th (International Women's Da) a present for both my wife and my daughter was found in the rooms. An unexpected but obviously very welcomed touch of class. Arigatou gozaimasu!

This hotel oozes class and sophistication.

Greeted at the door, we were offered a beautifully appointed place to sit, a traditional sweet and a cold drink. From that point on the hotel took care of everything.

I’m not the sort of person that people are necessarily pleased to see. The staff carried themselves as if my presence made their day. I’m sure it didn’t, but theirs made mine.

The bed was so large that I almost needed an intercom to speak to my partner. Japanese hotel rooms are notoriously small. You could play football in that one.

The cocktails alone are worth a trip to Kyoto. The matcha and yuzu gin and tonic with gold flakes and the Higashiyama sling were particular highlights. Dinner was also excellent.

I’ve been to Kyoto many times. I’m all templed out. But I suspect that I’ll be back to Kyoto again just for this hotel.

We stayed here for 4 nights in late December. Excellent communication with hotel concierge prior to our trip to help with booking restaurants. Hotel is near main town. Modern designed rooms with Clarins toiletries and 2 sets of pjs provided daily. I left our passports in the safe when we left for Tokyo. Hotel staff quickly retrieved along with our vaccination cards and some cash and promptly mailed to our current hotel in Tokyo. I’m so thankful for such great customer service

We spent nine nights here in early February and loved the hotel.

First, the location, at the northern part of Gion, couldn’t be better. Stops for the subway and the Keihan train line, which runs to Nara and Osaka, were in the next block. The bridge across the river to Pontocho district is one block beyond that. We ate most of our meals there, or at Nishiki Market (about 15 minute walk).

The lobby is spectacular and the staff is friendly, professional, and fluent in English. We grew to love the free coffee/latte machine available 24/7 in the lobby- one of us in particular spent every jet-lagged morning there around 4:30am!

We had a corner supreme King and, to be honest, we were a bit disappointed at its relatively small size at first. But over the nine days, we adapted and it was comfortable. The room was completely quiet - we didn’t hear any noises over nine days. The bathroom was spacious and bright. Robes and pajamas are available in the room.

We didn’t use the restaurants as they were pricey compared to Pontocho alternatives.

We wouldn’t hesitate to stay here again in the future.

We stayed at this hotel for three nights. Despite the premium price, we found the room rather cramped, and the breakfast below the standard we would have expected. But our main concern was that, during a fire alarm (the cause of which was not known), we were faced with fire escape staircases seriously obstructed, and at some points almost blocked, by boxes of kitchen supplies, bed linen etc. We made our concerns known to the hotel management, who were very apologetic. But we would advise anyone considering booking this hotel to check that this safety breach has been addressed.
