Magical view of the lit up cherry blossoms at night from the room-however, drip, drip, drip haha! If you sit on the bed or on the edge of the "sculpture" platform which you really are not supposed to from what I understand, you can enjoy it, otherwise, just when you stand and face the window.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Definitely the most sui generis hotel I have ever been to. Staff is wonderful; extremely kind and accommodating. They welcomed us with two drink tickets at the lobby bar. The beds were so comfortable, and the shower was the best shower I've ever stepped foot in. Our room was equipped with all the necessities; toothbrush, toothpaste, lotions and oils, natural hair products and body wash, as well as coffee, tea, water, mini fridge, and an iPad to watch Netflix or contact the front desk. Would definitely stay again the next time I'm in Kyoto, and am eager to see the one they have in Koenji, Tokyo. Highly recommend!

We loved visiting Kyoto and one of the reasons we loved it is all thanks to BNA Alter Museum. This hotel really surpassed our expectations. The staff were the best, the rooms are out of this world, we felt comfortable and we didn’t even want to leave the hotel because of how great the rooms are. We stayed in two different rooms and each one of them had a different style and different vibe but we enjoyed each and every second of it, we couldn’t get enough. Not only that, you’re 10 to 15 min walking to gion district and higashiyama, and 5 min walk to a bus stop and two train stations so you couldn’t beat the location. In conclusion, if you’re ever coming to Kyoto, I highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting, it’s worth the money, you won’t regret it!

We stayed in the sea sponge room, highly recommend! The bed was really comfortable and a delight to wake up in. The room was a fairly large size as Japanese hotel rooms go. Bathroom all a good size. Everything was sparkling clean.

The staff really went out of their way to help us out. They helped make dinner reservations for us and let us store bags most of the day we checked out.

We booked the room via expedia, but they are also on airbnb and other platforms. If you want a particular room it seems you can do it that way fairly easily.

All in all, highly recommend!! Stay somewhere unique and beautiful. Support artists and have a fantastic stay!

While we were initially going to stay in a traditional ryokan in Kyoto, we were intrigued to learn about the BnA Alter Museum and decided to stay in their Ear suite. Besides the perfect location just across the river from the Gion district and exceptional value, we loved how spacious our room, a true work of art, was, along with its great view toward Gion. We especially were grateful to BnA's exceptional staff for not only making us feel extremely welcome, but also for their expert recommendations and assistance with dining reservations, getting us into some truly extraordinary restaurants. They turned our stay in Kyoto into a journey we will never forget. We will forever be grateful to them, and we strongly recommend staying here.

Sleeping in a room at BnA is a unique, immersive experience as you are inhabiting an artwork. The customer service and communication is excellent from booking to check-out, with friendly and helpful staff at all times. Room 601 is like being in an intricate lava lamp with intriguing shifting colour and light. How can one colour be so many different colours, then no colour at all? Light trickery at its best! Room 903 is like being held in a gentle sponge with a romantic story, it is calming and comforting. I will be back to try other rooms in this amazing hotel, I highly recommend it.

The front desk guys and gals went above and beyond to make reservations and give recommendations. The location is perfect for access to downtown and the good restaurants. Room was very practical and quite artisty without being over the top.

Absolutely loved our stay at BnA Alter Museum. We were lucky enough to have this hotel as our base to explore Kyoto for 4 nights. Service was awesome - Akiko who ran the bar gave us wonderful tips on places to eat and explore in the city; the ladies at the front desk were also very friendly during check in, check out, and every single time in between. The hotel is also super conveniently located within Kyoto, we walked everywhere. The room we had was spacious and clean, and the view over Gion and the river amazing. The bathroom was massive, better than any hotel around the world we’ve had the privilege of staying in. We will definitely stay with BnA Alter Museum again the next time we are in Kyoto.

Firstly -5 stars for customer service. They were very responsive to my queries and also want to say a big thank you for helping with recommendations for restaurants (including options!) and for making the reservations for us.

Secondly - Location is great. Near enough and Easily walkable to major tourist sites and public transportation (bus and subways), but far enough so you are not innundated by crowds. Tons of restaurants nearby, Family Mart and 711 was just few feet away.

Thirdly - We stayed in The Travelling Room which was extremely conducive for sleeping, had a huge bathroom and ideal for someone who appreciates Minimalism. However, my husband and I are creatures of comfort and love practicality. We would've liked to have usb ports near next to our bed, extra socket to plug in for charging our gadges, a full length mirror and a cupboard to keep our clothes. So if you are looking to book a room here, do check with the hotel on the room details to ensure it meets your needs.

The rooms are awesome - it's such a special experience to stay in them. The staff are incredibly nice. The location is perfect, 5-10 min walk to Gion, next to some of the best restaurants, bars, and shops, and right between the two rivers (Kamogawa and Takase).

Even if you don't stay at the hotel, I recommend to visit the bar and the coffee shop.

I stayed here three times in two months, and hope to visit again!

BnA was our Kyoto splurge and we didn't regret it. We had a great room, enjoyed the gallery pieces (bought some art from a local artist), ate lovely healthy breakfasts and had a killer couple of drinks at the bar. Room was spotless and had an enormous bathroom. Easy to get to metro, bars, etc. Lovely people. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute.
