I stayed at First Cabin Kyoto Karasuma for 5 nights during the summer. It was my first experience at a hotel like this. I was not sure if I was going to like it, but it was great. The location of First Cabin is a perfect base for a trip to Kyoto as it is just around the corner from...

It was my first experience in a capsule hotel. The location is quite good, staff was friendly and helpful, everything was clean and they have separate floors for men and women, which makes the stay for solo women travelers quite nice. Even the business class capsules seems much bigger than the other capsules I had seen. It's quite comfortable, but...

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights and it was amazing. I chose to stay in a First cabin and it was great and quite big enough for one person with a suitcase. The shower area was nice, everything there was ready for you to use and clean. Don't be shy everyone there was naked. The breakfast was OK,...

A bit awkward to find a first walking around alleys and about a 15 min walk to Kyoto Station. Staff speak english and women are allowed in this hotel unlike most capsules that are men only. Womens floor is segregated. I stayed in the cabin for two nites. There is a folding curtain door and room to store luggage inside....

The hotel is close proximity to Shijo station and the friendly staff, safe, quiet, secure and fantastic amenities make this an ideal choice for solo travelers. There are alot bus stops nearby as well. Please note that this is off the main road and you must enter an alley to locate the place

Great place to check out. If you're expecting bars and social life, you are in the wrong city. Great launch pad to visit sites and temples - bamboo forest and the surrounding park a must. Ponto-chō also well worth a visit. Bring a rain coat!

Well worth getting the first class cabins- good price and spacious. Each cabin comes with your own TV, toiletries, Pjs and headphones. The hotel facilities are really nice like the ladies showers. Karasuma is a great central location in Kyoto :^) Would recommend to anyone travelling solo and would definitely stay again.

The capsule/cabin itself was actually really spacious, the room was mostly quiet meaning a good night's sleep was had. The location is excellent, it's literally around the corner from a subway exit. Staff were ok, but could have been much more friendly. There are lots of shops, convenience stores and Starbucks across the road.

If you fancy a box without good ventilation where the air con vent is from a corridor and the air seep through from bottom of the curtain that is your door, If the typical Japanese politeness is a mask that you have been subjected to in your stay in Japan You will find the mask still and none of any...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
