Located on a quaint street only a short walk from subway stations and main streets, this was the best part. The room we stayed in was actually fairly large. For the price we were happy with it overall. There was noise from other guests (we whispered the whole time to not disturb others but not everyone did this and you...

My sister and I loved this traditional Japanese inn. You cannot beat the price and you are in a great location to many temples and shrines. The owner is a sweet lady and gave us tea and a map when we arrived. It is very clean and located in a cute lantern lit narrow street. It's about a an 8-10 minute...

My daughter and I stayed at Tanaka-ya for 3 nights. The Manager/owner Tamie is so sweet and nice. The Ryokan place is very convenient, close to the train station and lots of things to do nearby. We saw 4.geishas when we were walking around. One geisha posed for me when I asked if I can take a picture. She was...

Oh, how we loved this place. It's tucked away in a quaint neighborhood in Kyoto. You will feel you have traveled back in time. It's so private, quiet, and romantic. The rooms are very traditional Japanese style, with tatami mats and futons. The futons were very comfortable. There is air conditioning which is absolutely necessary in the summer in Japan....

I spent two nights with my girlfriend here. It is in Gion, the most authentic neighbourhood in Japan, full of old but well preserved streets and buildings. Tanaka-ya is the best place for deeping in the Japanese style. You will be wellcomed in a very kindly way with tea and some japanese cookies. Very clean, good air conditioning and best...

Little old means the building is quite old fashioned. Noisy when you stepping at the corridor to your room. It has spacious room, but small toilet. I don't think it's cheap, but if you're lucky you can meet geisha walking around this neighborhood.

This cute little guest house really gave us an idea of what an authentic Japanese style room was like - futon beds, sliding doors etc. Most of our accommodation in Japan has had shared toilets and showers so don't expect more. My favourite aspect was the location - Gion is full of old school Japanese facade buildings, small alley ways...

I reserved for tanakaya but was directed to their other building down the street, the owner calls the annexe. I guess the business is doing so well that they need extra buildings to accommodate all those stupid travelers. I say that because the welcoming by the owner was quite directive; A polite smile, a welcome sentence and here we go...

Several friends and I visited Kyoto for a long weekend. We wanted separate rooms, wanted to be walking distance from the Gion district, and wanted to avoid spending a fortune. Tanaka-ya Guesthouse met all these criteria. The rooms are small tatami rooms with futon beds and shared sink, toilet and shower rooms. The rooms cost about 8,000Y per night. As...

Tanaka-ya is ideal for travellers who are seeking atmospheric, yet well-located and affordable accommodation in Kyoto. Tucked away in a quiet lane in Gion, the guesthouse is comfortable, with all the basic amenities you need. Please expect a Japanese-style guesthouse with tatami, futon mattresses and shared toilet/shower facilities. The hostess is polite and accommodating, and all amenities are well-maintained and...
