The cost of accommodation was little low due to the COVID-19 disaster, but the reception and cleanliness of the room were sufficient. The Onsen and the open-air bath were comfortable, the breakfast was good for Kyoto cuisine, and the free Yonaki-soba (special noodles) filled the hunger. I was satisfied with the access from the station about 5 minutes on foot. Recommended for those who want to enjoy the food and hot springs of Kyoto at reasonable prices.

It is a hotel super close to Kyoto (train and bus) Station which just takes 4 minutes walk. I was amazed by the classic Japanese style decoration in the reception at first and the service of receptionist are friendly as well. They provided both Japanese and Western style breakfast choices. I love those dishes made by "Kyoto Vegetable", which I found it really tasty! The hot spring provided is good as well - you could get the availability of the hot spring by the TV in room and I found this feature very useful. It is not a budget hotel but a hotel with great location and good hardware. They provided free Ramen after the dinner time which you might have a try. Recommend for your Kyoto stay!

Although the hotel is located close to Kyoto Station, the cost of staying at the hotel during the season is high, as is the case with other hotels, but at other times of the year, the price is relatively reasonable. The entire hotel is kept clean, of course, and the lobby as well as the guest rooms are sophisticated, making it possible to have a pleasant stay. The staff is a bit on the inorganic side, but they are not overly friendly and maintain a reasonable sense of distance from the guests. There are many foreign tourists staying at the hotel, but perhaps because I was lucky enough to stay at the time of year, there were few unnecessarily noisy guests, which was also a good thing.
The only access to the guest room floors is by elevator, and the sensor in front of the elevator on the first floor must recognize the card key of each guest room before the elevator's up and down buttons can be pushed. The same card key is also required to enter each guest room.
Each guest room is equipped with a safe, and the overall security setup of the hotel is adequate. On the other hand, the bathrooms in the guest rooms have showers only and no bathtubs. If you want to enjoy a relaxing bath, it's essential to use the natural hot spring on the top floor, but even there, security is strong, so you can use it with peace of mind.
I would recommend this hotel as a base for sightseeing in Kyoto.

Everything you need AND ice cream on the 9th floor after 3PM. One of the best showers and easy to understand among the 50 countries we’ve been in. Ask at the desk about complimentary noodles if you skip a day of cleaning your room. Wife totally enjoyed the communal bath. I totally enjoyed the complimentary coffee (and tea) on the first floor. Stayed 3 nights and I’d stay again.

Small rooms like usual Japanese business hotels. I liked the location, which is across the street from Kyoto JR Station. It's very convenient to transportation, shopping, and restaurants. There isn't any tourist sites around except for Kyoto Tower.

The room was fine, but nothing special. I pick places for convenience rather than luxury or amenities. I had no view unless you consider a view into the cram school across the street a view. However, I always try to stay at a place with a public bath. It's nice to sit in a hot bath after a long day of walking. Like other Dormy Inns, there was free ramen in the evenings. It's nothing special, but a convenient snack. There is a Lawson in the ground floor of the building.

I had the breakfast for one day. IIRC, it was 2000 yen, which I think is pricy because I don't eat much for breakfast. It's a buffet and I thought it was a good selection of food.

Only stayed here for one night when I took a day trip to Kyoto from Tokyo. The room is small (typical size for Japan) but I felt that they have put a lot of thought into the layout. Not an inch of space is wasted and everything is within reach. TV gives you a lot of useful information such as whether it's crowded at the "onsen" on rooftop or whether the restaurant is open. The staff is helpful but the command of English defintely varies. Some of them don't speak English at all but they will happily direct you to someone who does. They were all very helpful with my day trip planning and gave me some very honest advice about my very time-aggressive itinerary (and yes they turned out to be right). For the price I paid I think it's excellent value for the money. Its close proximity to the Kyoto station makes this an excellent jump off point for all the sightseeing needs for Kyoto. I'll definitely stay here again next time I go to Kyoto.

Pros:
- 3 minutes walk from Kyoto Station
- amazing breakfast spread
- Hotspring/onsen experience is unique and a must-try as long as you're comfortable with being naked in front of others
- funny Star Trek pajamas

Cons (Just being picky):
- eco-conscious hotel so don't expect the 10 towels that you usually exepct
- housekeeping is only done if you request it by putting a card on your door (they will still empty your trash daliy)

Tip:
- From Kyoto station, use the "For Shiokoji St", "Kyoto Cerema Bldg" exit. You'll see a Lawson as you go up the stairs and a crosswalk. Cross the street to the diagonal corner and you'll see the hotel entrance right next to another Lawson. If you can't find this particular train station exit, you can also just ask the tourist information office and they can draw you a simple map to Dormy.
- You're expected to wash yourself before you go into the hotspring, but you don't necessarily have to take a shower in your room before heading up. They have shower station in the same room as the hot spring so you can wash yourself there. Shampoo and soap are all provided.

Good location as only 5 mins walking distance to Kyoto station... Hot bath is available but too many people...very crowded so not relaxing enough... but the worst is service..before our arrival...we sent email to hotel for restaurant table reservation... but they replied restaurant is full...we then ask our 2nd hotel to help... then they finally make it... obviously restaurant is not full... but they don’t offer help.... since we stay first night here then the second night to Ogotoonsen ...so we ask to do storage for one night and get back day after...we’ve been rejected... I didn’t expected this ... as we used to do storage one night in other hotels in Kyoto...always not a problem... so very disappointed to this reply... sorry to say we will not come back and not recommended.

Traveling for so many years, I was hesitating to book this hotel close to a metro station! Arriving in Kyoto by the Shinkansen and very glad that I booked this hotel just less than five minutes’ walk. The station is one of the country's largest buildings, incorporating a shopping mall, hotel, movie theater, Isetan department store, and several local government facilities under one 15-story roof. The city bus will bring you to all the tourist attractions stationary in front of the station marked by number, alphabet and destination. . The hotel providing breakfast if you wish, top roof free sauna, hot bath and all the facilities you need, the room was comfortable but adequate for space. The one negative was no TV in any foreign language- in Kyoto they should have this, I think. During the night, there is also free ramen to satisfy the hunger or a taster of local soup before going to sleep. You can also request for extra bottled water from the front desk if those 2 in the room is not enough. Access free Wi-Fi, breakfast where all kinds of high quality Japanese dishes and a bit of western dishes are offered. Staff spoke very well English and willing to help you in any way. I highly recommend this hotel.

I've stayed at three different Kyoto properties and really love Westin Miyako Kyoto (gave it 5-star too). But deep in my heart I will always go back to Dormy Inn even though I can use my Starwood points for free rooms at Westin and enjoy Platinum service there. Here are the reasons:

1. Dormy Inn chain's charm
All Dormy Inn chain in Japan shares the same charm (stayed in 4 of them thus far): amazing breakfast, free ramen/soba at late evening if you get hungry, and wonderful natural hot spring on the roof top.

2. Breakfast buffet
Their breakfast buffet at Kyoto is so amazing that I think it can rival a 6,000 yen kaiseiki meal (less the sashimi and yuba). There are so many freshly made Kyoto vegetables, grilled foods, and other options and they are all prepared with amazing taste. I would pay double or triple the price they charge (1,500 yen) and still be satisfied.

3. Location!
This hotel is located 3 minutes walking from JR Kyoto train station (the most convenient place to stay in Kyoto) and next to my favorite Japanese convenience store Lawson.

Finally, let's be fair and say that this hotel is not for everyone, especially if you don't like small size room and need a fitness center (there's none). Further, not all their staff speak great English. But if you want to stay at where Japanese businessmen stay when trying to renew their busy day while having a 4 star experience at a 3 star price, look no further than Dormy Inn. =)

You should also be able to go to your reservation on Expedia and it will have a link to contact the hotel. The hotel was a wonder experience and a more culturally submersive experience without being too culturally far afield from Western experiences. I thought it was the best place that we stayed in Japan.
