Excellent business hotel, with EVERYTHING a sophisticated traveller may need, and more. We like : -100 m from Kyoto main station, with all the convenience that comes with - Neat room, very comfortable bed, not tiny like usually found in business hotels, ok bathroom side - Reliable Wifi for as many devices as you may need, branded tea and coffee...

Stayed there for a night during our brief stopover in Kyoto. Concierge was attentive and had maps and bus guides available, similar to other dormy inns that we stayed in. Free wifi in room and free ramen served at 9pm. Nice onsen and a 24 hours Lawson supermarket next door. You may request for harder pillows if you find the...

Very close to Kyoto station which is handy. Rooms are very small but clean and tidy. There are free udon noodles from 9 – 11pm in the meals area which were great. Also massages available in the hotel. Laundry facilities on site were very handy. This is definitely a budget choice – don’t expect anything fancy, but it was all...

Located very close to the train station this hotel was very easy to get to, Check in was fast and easy. They had complimentary udon later in the evening and hot tea/coffee throughout the day.. Enjoyed the Japanese baths. They were very relaxing. Room had fee wifi. The room itself was very small but very clean. Had many little amenities...

We stayed 2 night at Dormy Inn and we enjoyed it! Well located : 5 minutes walk from train station and bus hub which is perfect to visit temples and other attractions of Kyoto. Rooms are small ( we are in Japan of course) but nicely designed. We enjoy the japanese baths on top floor and free and tasteful noodles...

The location is very close to the train station, which makes this hotel a good starting point for exploring Kyoto. The staff in the hotel was very friendly and helpful. The decoration of the hotel is very nice. Our double room...

The hotel I was hoping to stay in was fully booked and this was the first hotel I found while wandering around the train station. As I didnt have time to look for decent hotels I just opted to stay here without checking reviews or the room. The staff working on reception were pleasant and helpful. The decor of the...

I have developed some criteria to judge a hotel in Japan: price, proximity to a train station, size of room, bed and sleep quality, staff hospitality and helpfulness, breakfast buffet, proximity to restaurants and attractions, and extras. This hotel pretty well captured the list. We stayed three nights and would highly recommend the place. The breakfast buffet was great, the...

Pros: Super close to train station. Great spread for breakfast - both Japanese and Western food (It's worth the $15 they charge for it but it should be included in your room fee). Clean onsen. Nice sized room by Japanese standards. Feels new and clean. Helpful staff. 24 hour convenience store attached to lobby. Free wifi works well in rooms....

All amenities were included. Quality was very good for the price. I recommend it. What I liked - Excellent location - Clean rooms - Adequate room size - Good...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
