Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff were so friendly and attentive, they really made the stay so pleasant. Nice room and comfortable, big enough for two people. Great location, very close to the station in Kyoto with ability to quickly jump on the train or bus to get around the city.

The hotel room is reasonable size, facilities is good. Location is good.
Tea/coffee should be placed in room instead of be given at checking in or guess has to ask for. This is not good, need to be improved.

Stayed there for three nights in the mid March with my daughter. It was very close to Kyoto Station, yet it was very quiet at night. Good value place to stay!
All the staff there were very friendly and polite. The Breakfast every morning was delicious and so pleasant. Whenever we needed taxi, they called for us.
My daughter and I had a great and comfortable stay there. Definitely stay again.

Excellent location near the Kyoto train station and buses to visit sights and great value for your money!

NB: I am happy to give my review and rate the hotel for your website, but it is a burden to impose a minimum of 200 words. What I stated above should suffice. I am writing all this unnecessary nonsense with the hope that whoever manages your page changes this requirement.

From the time we entered the hotel we could not handle the smell of smoking. The rooms were terrible with smell of smoking. We had to move out even though we let $300. It was a lot of money but we just couldn't stay one night. Really expensive for what it was.

Stayed three nights in this hotel.
Prefered a hotel near Kyoto station because we were travelling with our big suitcases on the Shinkansen from Nagoya.
Read up before arrival at the hotel and knew that we needed to look for the Hachiojiguchi West exit.
That wasn't too difficult because the Shinkansen train from Nagoya arrives at platform 13 which is near the Hachiojiguchi exits.
You want to look for the Avanti building and walk towards that direction. There is an underground pass linking the station to the Avanti building or you can also cross the road at the traffic lights to the left of the station (with your back to the station)

I booked a twin room for myself and my daughter.
The room size is big at 23 square metres and the twin beds are pushed together.
Bathroom is big with the usual amenities provided.
Tap water is drinkable and I used that to boil water every morning for my coffee, given free by the hotel upon checkin.

I didn't book the plan with breakfasts but there are lots of breakfast options in Kyoto Station or you can also buy onigiri and bread from the two convenience stores one block away from the hotel.

Hotel was recently refurbished, some of the furnishings are new and some look old but restored with a coat of paint.
The rooms and amenities are very clean though so I have no complains.

They are strict with their checkin time at 2pm but will keep your luggage for you if you arrive early.
You need to pay in full at the machine upon checkin either by cash or by credit card.
I paid by credit card at the same hotel chain in Nagoya and was billed in US dollars.
So take note that if you choose to pay by credit card, you will be billed in US dollars and then in our own currency, which is a double conversion.

Other than this little inconvenience, I must say that I like the Daiwa Roynet chain of hotels.
Their room are a little bit bigger than most Japanese business hotel chains and most amenities are provided for the convenience of their guests.

There is a laundry room usually with three sets of washer and dryer and I like the fact that you can set the desired temperature in our room and to turn it to either heater or aircon mode.
The hotel also provides a humidifier/air purifier in the rooms which is useful during the dry winter nights when the heater is switched on.

Will stay at this hotel again or hotels under the same chain on my future Japan trips.

I stayed in this hotel for 5 nights in Aug 2016.
I love staying this hotel from the first step I walked into it. My wife and I came early in the morning with 2 luggages and was warmly greeted by a lady reception staff. She helped me store my luggages and provided me with all the tourist information that I wanted. She also proactively approached me to see if I needed any further assistance. Thank you, lady.
The hotel is located in a quite area in close proximity, less than 10 mins. walk, to the Kyoto Station from where you can take all sorts of public transportation to visit Kyoto and nearby areas. We slept well after our day time excursions. A great plus!
The room is spacious by Japanese standards. The bed is clean and comfy; and everything inside was neat and tidy. Another plus is that the hotel provides a small mirror which enables my wife to do her makeup comfortably. The hotel may consider allowing the air conditioning inside the room to run continuously because the maid always shut it down after tidying the room. Every time on my return from outside, I need to wait for a while to allow the room temperature to coor down.
The hotel serves very delicious buffet breakfast with different themes each day such that residents can taste different foods everyday. It would be better if the hotel could provide jams in small packs rather than using a bottle jams.
I will definitely stay in hotel of this chain on my future trips. And as a matter of fact, I have joined their loyalty programme.

Thank you for choosing to stay with us at Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto-Hachijoguchi. We are happy to hear that you found our location convenient, breakfast and our front desk helpful. We are always confident with the cleanliness of our rooms. However, we need to consider about the air-conditioner in the guest rooms as you mentioned. Thank you again. We are looking forward to serving you again if you visit Kyoto another time in the future. Daiwa Roynet Hotel Kyoto-Hachijoguchi

Booked Hotel for 5 days ... Dates were not booked correctly, So i will have to eat this cost. So they pretty much just took my money So i would definitely double check confirmation as the front website could book wrong date. Called to see if they could correct dates but there is supposedly nothing they can do about it.

Looks like a decent hotel, but they get a bad rating in my book for lack of customer service.

Travelled to Japan during April 2014, and Kyoto was the third place I visited. I stopped at Tokyo, Shizuoka, Kyoto, then Hiroshima. Out of all 4 hotels, Daiwa-Roynet was the most disappointing one. It was very cramp in size (we thought the size issue will end once we were out of Tokyo!). Daiwa Roynet is the only hotel that told us that we had to pay extra money if we wanted to push our check in timing earlier by an hour (All the other 3 hotels accommodated to our request kindly). Maybe the service by the other hotels had piqued my hopes up as Kyoto was the third leg in my journey, which was why I feel all the more disappointed by their service. It will be an issue navigating your way to the hotel if you do not do your research prior as Kyoto JR is huge with many exits! Look for Kyoto Avante when you get out of the Hachijoguchi exit and walk straight along that path till you find the hotel. Kyoto Avante basement offers a variety of food choices and I went into a Teppanyaki restaurant which served thick bacon that was totally delicious! Depending on my budget, I may or may not go back to this hotel the next time I visit.

Is it better to stay in a traditional Japanese hotel or a more western hotel if you are American?
Answer from TheGreatWhiteG

Great question. My wife and I stayed in a very traditional ‘Ryokan’ on about the 2nd day into our holiday - and it was a shell shock! They spoke little or no English and it was hard going. Having said that, it was a good experience. However, we stayed at a more relaxed Ryokan later in our trip, the staff spoke limited English and tried to accomodate us. They also put on a (Japanese version of a ) western breakfast which we appreciated. So give it a try - if it is too hard, have a backup plan - and my saviour was Google Translate with the Japanese dictionary

I have checked Hotel home page. There is the following statement about "Express Courier Service": If you send your parcel(s) to our hotel Please write the name(s) of the hotel guest(s) (full name) and check-in date and send your parcel(s) to our hotel. We will give you the parcel(s) at the time of your check in. We do not accept CODs. Please pay when you send the parcel(s). Please ask to the Google site with the phrase of "Daiwa Roynet Hotel Express Courier Service". I think you can find the hotel service page including "Express Courier Service".
