The location is great and so close to shops which is ideal when travelling, it was also easy to get the bus to Kyoto station which was fantastic. The hostel had lots of information in in about where to eat, how to get about etc which was really helpful, and I loved the communal area (although everyone seemed more interested...

I love this place, staff very friendly.. and the guest house very clean. The location is near with center of kyoto, about 300 meters from bus stop, 900 meters from gion. So this hotel is not hard to find. Wifi excellent.

Great hostel, in amazing location, low budget. Big common are with kitchen where you can sit, relax, eat and prepare your own meals. Very friendly staff, comfortable beds. For the price you pay 10/10. No-brainer! Perfect for backpackers. Finally hostel where I met some interesting fellow backpackers. I stayed there two nights and had a lot of fun!

Great location, clean rooms and bathrooms, lots of bathrooms to use, nice shared kitchen and common area, overall good service... the only issue is the room is too small and cramped and it was also hard to keep the window open for fresh air. It was in the way of the already too-small room.

Only 3 minutes walk from kawaramachi station (not covered by jr pass) This hotel is really near the shopping center. The wifi connection is unstable (slow) The room is like dormitory. So, i booked a room which has 6 bunk bed just the 4 of us. (Actually we could reserve 4 bunk beds, but it would be shared with strangers)...

We had a double room that had bunk beds. The room was tiny but clean. Bathrooms were clean. Free Wi-Fi throughout. Common room was warm and welcoming. Staff were very friendly. Great location for restaurants and easy access to subway. Staff gave great recommendations on where to eat. Great all round

What I liked most about this place is the "really big" bathroom with quite a number of sinks, toilets & shower stalls on my floor (I'm sure there are similar ones on the other floors as well), so chances are you'll never have to "wait" when you go to the bathroom; apart from that, the top floor is really great...

Acceptable price if you are looking for hostel near the subway and surrounded by convenience store. Staff are nice and friendly. But rooms are quite dirty. The worst thing was noisy bathroom drain that can be clearly heard from your bed! Especially after 9 pm that you want to take some rest and restroom are crowded. No second time return.

We spent a week here, in a double room with a bunk bed. The room was small but well lit with 2 windows (it was a corner room, the others have only one window), air conditioning,a small desk. Beds were comfortable and clean. We used the shared toilets on the floor and they were always clean and well furnished with...

Rates reasonable. Lots of regulations but sadly, neighbouring room was loud until wee hours. Only one bathroom and one toilet for the more than ten people on the floor. No place to hang pants in the toilet. Room was very dusty. When we complained, person in charge said they vacuumed everyday. Hardly true for we stayed three days and not...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
