I stayed there for 3nights. My stay was very enjoyable, thus I would like to share a few points what I am impressed. The hotel is an average hotel which provide limited service, is NOT full service grand hotel. My recommendation is for solo/couple travelers and flash-packers.

1) Check In/Out time of the hotel, 17:00/14:00, fits my lifestyle. Each time are 2hours late compared with other hotels. Such time set will be more suitable for travelers. No worries for sleeping over!

2) Specious room. The room I stayed is a twin bed room which has 23.4sqm, an average size room though, felt larger since facilities in the room are well concentrated in a corner.

3) Clean public bath and steam sauna on the basement. Travelers walks a lot usually in the city, and the city's winter is cold. That's why sauna or public bath are perfect refreshments. Surprisingly, the facilities open most of all day long!

4) Free coffee if you buy the hotel's tumbler (probably forever). It is amazing for active travelers who go out very early, isn't it?

Thank you for staying our hotel. We are glad that you enjoyed our hotel room and facility of THE BATH and THE SAUNA. Check-in and Check-out time setting is slightly different from that of a general hotel. Among them, the setting of check-out 14:00 is very convenient for sightseeing in Kyoto and is popular. We will strive to be a hotel where customers can spend their free time. We will endeavor to be a better hotel by referring to the opinions of our customers, and we appreciate your continued patronage. Manager

This hotel is quite different from the typical Japanese hotel chains, so you would get a few surprises. Expect no tea or coffee facilities in the room (even if a kettle is provided). However, expect a free drink (including beer and wine) for every night stay. Sit back at their comfy lounge and enjoy your drink while the in-house DJ spins her tunes.

Also, expect no free skincare amenities - bring your own makeup remover, lotions, etc. Only the basics, e.g. shampoo, conditioner, and soap are available (disposable shavers, cotton buds, and toothbrushes are available at the reception). However, look forward to a decent aromatic spa experience with relaxing sounds and lightning. Both the public bath and steam sauna are very clean and modern - just a blessing for a tired body after a long day of sightseeing.

The room looks better than it does on the website. Great lighting and lots of space. The only thing is that the noise from the busy street can be heard from the room. The guests who stay here seem younger than in other hotels, so this is definitely a place for the young and the young at heart.

This was an exceptional hotel for us. Located a short 15 minute walk from Kyoto station, this modern up to date hotel was a delight. From its attentive service, spacious room and bathroom to its facial recognition access, spa and laundry machine service made this a worthwhile stay at great value. We had to extend our stay by a day and it was done almost seamlessly. Finally the one free drink and 2 pm check-out makes this a great hotel in Kyoto.

The difference from the Sequence in Tokyo and the one in Kyoto was just amazing. This hotel was Uber cool and modern with face recognition technology so you could access the lifts and the rooms without using keys. Their storage area for luggage is just second to none. The rooms were comfortable and well appointed. The hotel had a cool place to eat downstairs and also grabs some late night cocktails.

You also have to try the sound and bath area this stunning space is shred on alternate days between women and men. If you have ever been to Kyoto you know how much there is to see and do there. The hotel is in a great area for you to explore it all.

Solid 3 stars

PROS:
-face recognition to get into your room was pretty cool!
-mini fridge with two complimentary waters
-iPad in room controls lights, can call front desk
-two drink tickets daily with pretty good DJs! One night was like edm funk which was cool. (would recommend beers, mixed cocktails tasted like fruit juice)
-LAUNDRY available in the basement floor but only two machines, it looks like they’re trying to expand that!
-really awesome black out curtains, slept in the most any of our days because of this!

CONS:
-check in and out via ipad was inconvenient and I am tech savvy. This is not the place for older folks. Wish they would just do it for us because we had staff helping us and it seems like it would overall be more streamlined if they did it.
-have to bring towels from your room to the hot tub/steam room and they will NOT bring towels to you (must request at front desk so may as well do so FIRST thing upon checking in). We found this out the hard way when we were post-steam room shower and wanted a fresh towel but had to go retrieve it ourselves.
-two night stay but the room is only cleaned every two days? So our trash piled up quite a bit
-5pm (5pm!!!!) check in, 2pm check out
-only one member of staff seemed to speak English well (he studied in Indiana!) but everyone else we talked to struggled
-would not help us call a taxi or maybe didn’t understand us asking for help on the matter

As far as train stations, they were overall convenient! It was about 20 minutes to fushi inari and an hour to Arashiyama via bus that took us straight there.

Steam room was okay
Hot tub was okay. I wasn’t sure if it was actually an onsen with mineral waters?
They flip the days between women and men for each site. Inside are lockers and showers. I was able to do both. But they don’t provide towels in that area which I thought was weird!

Thank you for staying with us. Thank you for experiencing our self-check-in system. Our check-in system is a completely self-service, state-of-the-art system that even allows you to issue a card key. In addition, by pre-registering with smooth check-in, you can check in with less time and effort than regular self-check-in. Next, our hotel will be cleaned once every two days. Towels can be replaced on days other than cleaning days, so please ask the reception staff. In order to extend your time at your leisure, check-in time is 17:00 and check-out time is 14:00. We hope that you can enjoy your stay and explore Kyoto as you wish, depending on your schedule. We will continue to strive to be a better hotel. We look forward to welcoming you back next time. A very unusual hotel which is more akin to a hostel. I would highly suggest avoiding.

First, check in isn’t until 5pm and they will not consider early check in. They compel you to check in using self check in iPads which is time consuming and inconvenient (you also must check out this way). There is no hotel lobby, and they will not allow you to sit or hang in the main entrance if you are eating or drinking food or coffee that isn’t from their adjoining restaraunt — they literally asked us to leave the hotel bc we were drinking coffee from elsewhere. There also was a DJ blasting music during our entire stay which makes hearing / talking in the lobby difficult. Some staff seem nice/friendly but generally it always felt like we were not wanted or being an inconvenience to the staff. Also, they advertise to have a bag transport service to Osaka but when we inquired they basically said it’s a third party service that they know little about and can’t provide any information on.

The only positives are the spa (steam room/bath) and the rooms are decent. Though, bath doesn’t even closely compare to real onsen (we stayed at Kustasu Hotel which is amazing). Definitely not 4 star hotel.

Thank you for staying with us. Our hotel has a self-check-in/self-check-out system. The customer will be responsible for operating the service on their own tablet. In order to give you more time to spend at your leisure, check-in time is 17:00 and check-out time is 14:00. We hope that you can enjoy your stay and explore Kyoto as you wish, depending on your schedule. Once you are ready to check in, we will begin the process before 5pm. The DJ event will continue to be held in December, but the event start time has been changed to 6:00 p.m. Secondly, we do not allow externally purchased items to be brought into the restaurant. For coffee, if you purchase a tumbler, you can use it for free during the restaurant's business hours during your stay. Lastly, regarding Takkyubin, we have an "Airpoter" service that sends packages to hotels in Osaka city. We have prepared a QR code at the front desk, so you can use this system to complete the delivery procedures yourself. Based on the opinions we receive, we will strive to become the hotel of choice for everyone. Manager

Very cool lobby. Hip cafe that opened up to street. Not huge like other hotels. Kinda hipster feel like ultra modern. We came in way too early to check in and they offered to keep our baggage until then which was nice. Check in was either self or assisted. We opted for the assisted as it was easier for us. They have the toiletries in the check in area in case you forgot your toothbrush, razor or comb. All free for the taking. Only two elevators and kinda small. The only flaw was that we wanted to extend our stay, but we had to switch room vs stay in the same room which was a bummer. Seemed to me that they were inflexible in that manner.

The room was tight as well as most are in Japan, but very modern. Quiet as well. Peeps in Japan don't make a lot of noise. Nor did I hear any noise from the street. The bed was comfortable and we slept well. No closet, sink was outside bathroom, TV, Internet, shower and bidet/toilet were separated.

Walking distance from the JR station and everywhere we wanted to go!

I stayed at a twin room, and for a solo traveler, it was spacious. It could probably fit a family of 4 or 2 couples. It was not your typical Japanese business hotel. It was stylish and clean-looking, probably because it was relatively new. I had enough room for my bags, enough room to pace around the room, a comfortable bed to relax in, and a nice city view from my window. The toilet/shower area was spacious enough, no bathtub though.

What I liked the best (and my reason for choosing this place) was that it seemed walking distance to everywhere I needed to go. And it was. I liked walking around when I travel, and it was ~5min walk to the nearest Gojo/五条 station on the Karasuma line, ~15min walk to Kyoto station, ~20-30min walk to either Gion district or Kiyomizudera areas. There are a couple of kombinis nearby, some set-meal/定食 restaurants, and fast food restaurants around the area as well, in case you need a quick bite.

The staff were accomodating and friendly. I tried to practice my Japanese, but you won't have a problem even if you don't, because they can speak English well. I didn't get the breakfast option, since there are a number of coffee shops around the area (try Astrea Coffee or Murmur). There's a nice open-air cafe/bar at the ground floor for resting in between or after sightseeing.

It was quite an enjoyable and comfortable stay.

The simplicity is comfortable.

This is a rare hotel equipped with four regular-size beds.
The separate living space was very relaxing.

The rooms, large public bath, and steam sauna were also clean and nice.
The facial recognition security system in the hotel was great because you could go out or take a bath empty-handed.
I hope that this will become the security standard in other hotels as well.

Some people drank in the living room while watching a subscription movie on the large screen projector, while others lay in bed and fell asleep while watching...everyone was able to enjoy themselves as they pleased.

I would definitely like to visit again if I have the opportunity.
