Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It's a small hotel that sits quietly in Arashiyama, with a hideaway-like entrance, front desk, and lobby.
The front desk and lobby are cold, and even the staff's attitude was simple and obligatory.
It was like sneaking in through the back door, with no sense of welcome... but maybe that's true😅
It felt like it'd been a while since I'd seen such unrefined staff.
As for the room, it seems to be the third anniversary, but it's just unnecessarily spacious and already feels old.
I remember it as being no different from a regular custom-built house, a hotel with only a view.

DO NOT BOOK HERE. This hotel is NOT worth the money. My wife and I did a 3 week trip in Japan for our honeymoon and the only bad experience we had in Japan with our bookings was this hotel. We decided to book one night here and were really looking forward to it. Seeing as it was one of the more expensive bookings we had made, we wanted to take advantage of the hotel while there. Unfortunately my wife who suffers from back issues was going through a back crisis at the time we arrived. She couldn't really walk at all so we wanted to go to the hotel restaurant for dinner. However the restaurant was closed and they had not given us any notice before our check-in date. The lounge area was also closed, there was no room service or any sort of food service at all. The staff was not helpful in the slightest and didn't see any issue with the fact that the hotel we spent the most on offered almost nothing when it comes to actual hospitality or service. I ended up having to go find street food (which was pretty delicious) and bring it back to my wife in the room since she couldn't walk.
The room was obviously beautiful and the view of the mountain is really nice. But in all honesty you don't get your money's worth AT ALL. Save yourself the money and you can just do breakfast at the restaurant (if it's open) and stay somewhere else for the night.

In fact after our experience we were supposed to spend three nights at a luxury hotel in Hakone by the same owner and we went online to do more research because we were so appalled by our stay. We then see that they put a notice on the site that there was going to be construction the entire time we would be there but hadn't sent us an email. We promptly cancelled and booked an airbnb with a beautiful view and private onsen and saved ourselves over $1,000.

TLDR: Not worth the amount you pay. Terrible service, hardly any amenities.

We spent one night in Muni after careful research for our anniversary trip to Japan. Several Japanese You-tubers and reviews had high marks and they did not disappoint. It is located few steps from the famous Arabica coffee shop and very easy access to Togetsu bridge. There are lots of folks walking by the river, but noise is not concern at all as the soothing noise of the water from the garden erases them. We stayed on the second floor, and it had amazing view. We could see the bridge on left and Arashiyama on the right. It was very relaxing to soak in the atmosphere out on the balcony. Room was spacious and clean with some modern touch. It was really good to rest a little after the hustle and bustle in the bigger cities.
Hotel service was excellent. The gentleman in the front was very professional and attentive. We opted to try some authentic Izakaya and he booked us a perfect place despite my husband's minimal and rather confusing request. Breakfast was arranged at Muni La Terrasse with a same view, but closer to the river. Food was excellent, of course. Overall, I would not categorize Muni as an inexpensive accommodation, but it absolutely met our expectation. Only regret maybe that we did not book multiple nights!

Their restaurants were closed on both the days we stayed in (Tuesday and Wednesday). They have no room service. Breakfast needs to be booked by 5 PM the previous day. We were travelling late till Wednesday night and when we enquired in morning, we were told the restaurant is quite busy and won't be able to accommodate us.

I feel it's not a hotel, it's more of a hobby for the people running the place.

The hotel itself is outstanding in every detail, from the incredible waterfront location, to minimal and beautiful design, to the clould like bedding and generous amenities. But on top of that the staff went above and beyond to be flexible, when I made a booking mistake, and misplaced a lost item. The service is world class and made the stay unforgettable. Thank you all.
