We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights during our first visit to Kyoto. This hotel is very clean with nice accessories and modern Japanese accommodations located in quiet neighborhood away from constant tourist crowds but at the same time in walking distance from the emperor palace and right across from Nijo Castle. It is only 10-15 minutes away on taxi from Gion district and other main tourist attractions that Kyoto can offer. I also would like mention Garrya Nijo Castle Kyoto staff that made us feel very welcomed and specifically to Timothy Hui (front office manager) who went beyond his duties and make special accommodations for us during our visit in Kyoto.

Beautiful hotel with excellent service.
We stayed for 2 nights to relax in the middle of our 3 week trip over Japan. First day we just stayed in the hotel and enjoyed the views and the room.
Room offers beautiful views on surrounding slopes, and it’s just very enjoyable to have a tea while admiring the view.
We booked 2 external experiences with the hotel, the tea ceremony and zen meditation. Both were arranged and prepared we just had to show up. But that was not all, as a welcome gift, as hotel knew we are travelling with our 3yo boy, they surprised us with 3 tickets to Kyoto aquarium.
Breakfast is nice and not crowded, staff is very attentive. Big thanks to Mr. Kinoschita who made our breakfast experience great.
Accor benefits were taken in the account, as platinum members we got upgrade to Nijo Castle View room and we were offered cocktails for the Accor welcome drinks.
Staff is helpful and attentive to the smallest detail. An example, the traditional pyjamas we got for our 3yo were too big. We didn’t say anything about it as we didn’t think it’s so important, but he was in the lobby in that pyjamas and was seen by the hotel staff. The next day after the room cleaning a one size smaller pyjamas were provided. Thank you very much.

This is a stylish, new, boutique hotel with impeccable customer service. Everyone who works in the hotel is friendly, welcoming, and helpful to guests. The room decor is magnificent, as they've thought of both modern and personal touches to make staying at Garry Nijo Castle Hotel very comfortable. The entire hotel and rooms are spotless. My husband and I stayed in a king sized, well-being suite for four nights to celebrate his birthday and our anniversary.

We love modern decor, and this hotel delivers. The rooms are beautifully designed and included things like bath salts, Nespresso machines, and tea pots. Breakfast was convenient each morning and tasty. Because the hotel is small, it only offers a few meal options for breakfast, but we still enjoyed it. The location is walkable, though it's slightly off the beaten path. Very quiet and peaceful yet just a few blocks down from retail and restaurants. It's a nice central place to stay for a visit to Kyoto. The restaurant Singular was nice to try (the plating was artistic), but there are equally good options within walking distance of the hotel.

We would certainly stay at this hotel again when we return to Kyoto and will recommend it to friends who also enjoy boutique properties and aren't concerned about amenities like swimming pools and fitness centers. Thank you to all of the kind hotel staff who made our stay truly exceptional.

This hotel feels more like a ryokan than a hotel. It has a Zen like feel. The entry lobby area has a beautiful view of the moss garden and has very low light. Our room was spacious, modern and very comfortable. The staff is over the top accommodating and friendly, always making sure we were comfortable and satisfied with everything. We enjoyed our daily breakfast where they gave us a choice of a multi course American or Japanese breakfast. The meal was beautifully prepared and presented. We did not indulge in their dinner option. It was not something that interested us however another couple said they really enjoyed it.

Beautiful and stylish hotel across from the Nijo Castle. Spacious and modern amenities. Japanese or Western breakfast options. But what really set this hotel apart for us was the attentive and warm staff. We had an incident that really brought this out. My wife was injured during an excursion not arranged by the hotel. We needed to get her to a doctor to clean and dress a cut on her leg. The hotel manager, Timothy, sprung into action, finding a nearby clinic, scheduling an appointment and even accompanying us to the clinic to interpret for us. He stayed throughout, exhibiting genuine concern for my wife’s (and our) well-being. Over the next couple of days the hotel staff continued to inquire as to my wife’s recovery. It was very touching.

Extraordinary on every dimension. The design and style of the common areas and rooms is elegantly restrained Japanese modernism. Our room was large, with top-quality finishes and amenities. The separate lavatory itself was a beautiful room! The bed was a spacious king, and the alcove by the floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Nijo Castle was like having a cozy living room.

The on-premises restaurant, Singular, serves western and Japanese style breakfasts (reservation needed). We had the western “well-being” option of eggs, a bit of sausage, yoghurt, frisée sald with a delicious light dressing on the side, and a wonderful light and creamy pumpkin soup. We loved the thick-cut toasted bread that comes with breakfast. Daisaku Kitajima, the hotel Food & Beverage Manager, kept watch over everything, and personally served our meals. The service was gracious, professional, and attentive in every way.

From arrival to the deep bow upon our departure, the front desk staff throughout each day was charming, helpful, and responsive to every request over our 5 day stay.

I stayed in two different hotels with my child in Kyoto. This is our first hotel to stay for 5 days. In the the first day, our flight was delayed. I immediately email the hotel as we booked hotel’s restaurant for dinner. The hotel staff responded me very fast and help me to change the reservation time. This hotel staffs responded email very fast. Usually less than an hour. It is quite unexpected. But such efficiency gave me a good first impression. The staffs are very helpful. They helped me to book other restaurant and responded me fast. I asked other Kyoto’s “six-starred” hotel to help me to book a bento in other restaurant. They replied me the bento was sold out after 4 days.

When we arrived the hotel at 7pm, the staff welcomed us with drinks, snack and hot towels during check-in. We were surprised. My child secretly told me the staff was so nice and he had a good impression to this hotel.

It’s late night. My child felt tired and didn’t want to have dinner in restaurant. However, I made a reservation in hotel’s restaurant and reserved a set menu. I saw the staffs and chef were waiting for us to have dinner and only us to reserve a table. It’s embarrassed for me to request to serve the dinner menu in room. The staffs were very helpful. They agreed to do so and serve us the dinner in three times (appetisers, main course and dessert). All dishes were very yummy and the staff served us dinner was very nice. We had a great dining experience as in restaurant!

The room is very spacious and clean. The view is face to Nijo Castle. The environment is very comfortable. My child and I like it very much. He urge me not to change other hotel in this trip.

The location is very good. Near bus stop and train station. Supermarket is Just 7 mins away from hotel.

The breakfast has three choices. We tried western and Japanese one. Both are very yummy. The ingredients are fresh. Even the vegetables in salad, it is obvious that the chef chose and make it carefully. All of them are fresh and no black spots. The staffs to serve us in the breakfast time were nice and professional. They can remember what we wanted. Everything is good. Highly recommend to stay in this hotel.
