A great last minute find after our Airbnb fell short of the mark.
Almost brand new and in great condition, the hotel was spotless.
Rooms are great, as is the bar, gym and laundry.
Well ‘looked after’ as a diamond member with upgrade etc. offered upon check-in.
Great location.
My only criticism that is sadly common to many hotels around the world, it’s overheated. No option to open room window and thermostat only goes down to 20c (should be 17) means I slept poorly.

My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights and it was such a memorable experience. From the minute we checked in to the time we left, the staff was helpful, friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was enormous and continually stocked with food for both Eastern and Western preferences. There were waffles, croissants, cereal, fruit, juice, yogurt, eggs, bacon, sausage, and a wonderful coffee machine for lattes and espressos. The rooms were large by Japanese standards (we had a King) with a refrigerator and coffee machine, separate water closet with bidet (of course) and a cool hidden corner pocket wall you could close for shower privacy. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms were very quiet. You have to scan your room key in the elevator, and you only get access to your floor which is a neat security feature. There are 4 combination washer/dryers in the basement and you can access availability and status from the TV in your room. There is a security code you set that is needed to open the dryer so no one but you can take your clothes out! There is also an iron and ironing board in each room (many other hotels in Japan just have steamers). They have a bar and food service in the evening. The location was perfect for exploring, in between two close subway stops or right near the bus stop. Easy walk to Kyoto Station or Shijo Dori shopping, Nishiki market and the Gion district. As a Hilton Gold member, I was so happy this hotel opened late last year as the first Hilton in Kyoto, everything felt fresh and new. I recommend this hotel highly!

This is a small Hilton near to shops and cafes and a medium walk from the nearest station but on a bus route. I stayed there for 4 days end of May 2023. The staff were very friendly, the room was comfortable and clean and the toilets were amazing. Even the toilet lid opened and closed automatically when I entered or left the toilet which was separate from the bathroom. It had the usual range of water jets to wash private areas! There was no restaurant for dinner but an excellent breakfast restaurant. At breakfast there was a waffle counter at which a chef would make you waffles but with determination you can get them to cook you an omelette instead every morning. The hotel had a small shop at which you could buy a salad bowl and some Japanese dishes which can be heated up in the microwave if you need to dine while working in your room. The room had a kettle, coffee and tea bags. The only tea bags I was provided in the room were green tea and camomile so I just stocked up at breakfast which had earl grey and yorkshire tea. The staff were very helpful and although on day 1 they tried to tell me I couldn't get a taxi and public transport was much better, because I have mobility issues I managed to get the name of a taxi driver from them who was 100% reliable in transporting myself and colleagues daily back and forth to the conference centre.

We stayed here for five nights in July and found it to be adequate but probably would not stay here again. To be honest, the only reason we chose this hotel was because we inadvertently scheduled our trip to Kyoto during the Gion Festival and struggled to find a decent hotel that had availability. We felt comfortable choosing HGI due to the brand reputation.

That said, the hotel is not horrible but it’s not great either. The staff were extremely helpful and they are the only reason that I’m rating this a 4 instead of a 3. The reality is that it’s probably more of a 3.5 in total.

The staff was always willing to answer questions, call taxis and mostly help in any way possible. The front desk even made a dinner reservation for us in Tokyo as we were having difficulty doing so. Housekeeping was always friendly and available. They forgot to replenish the toilet paper one day and it was quite easy to find someone to get more. The only time they were not helpful was when we needed some assistance in the laundry area.

The hotel itself is okay but doesn’t seem to be quality construction. The walls are thin and even the furniture was not very sturdy. The room size would have been okay except we needed to have a rollaway bed for a third person. This took up every bit of extra space. With three of us in the room we were constantly tripping on something.

We were happy to see that the hotel had a self-laundry, but it was pretty much impossible to get access to a washer. There were only four machines and it seemed like no matter what time of day we attempted to do laundry they were always full, even at 4am. It did not help matters that when a machine was finished people would not come back for over an hour to retrieve their laundry. When we asked the front desk if anything could be done, the response was to “just wait a bit longer”. We ultimately found a nearby laundromat, so we did not have to deal with the frustration of trying to do it ourselves.

The location is decent, near metro stops and a short walk from the train station. But to walk to other sights is a bit far if the weather is not good. We were there in July so it was either really hot or raining. There is a small pub nearby if you want a drink and several smaller restaurants on the street.

This hotel is just a year old but looks as if it was opened yesterday. The whole place is immaculate. Hotel is in a good location about 15/20 mins walk from Kyoto station and very easy to find. I was checked in by Kayoko who was fantastic and is a real credit to the hotel. My room was a good size and the addition of the water bottle with separate filter to keep down waste is a great idea. Bar staff all very pleasant and eager to do their utmost for guests. I can’t recommend this hotel highly enough!

Hilton Garden Inn Kyoto
While there are countless places to stay in Kyoto; this is my favorite because the location, laundry facility (use early in the morning), extremely clean, great breakfast and excellent staff and their ability to communicate in English was very helpful. Every person at the hotel I dealt with was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The HGI is less than a mile walks from the train station, easily accessible by taxi, subway system and separately the local train station. At one-point during the stay, Akari, called another hotel in Tokyo to patiently assist me with a conflict on a future reservation. There’s a simple lounge in the lobby for evening drinks (they also serve food). Kyoto is a favorite city of mine and when I return, I’ll stay here. Request room with a street view, on a higher floor.

We were first checked in by Akari who did an excellent job welcoming us, and helping us get started with WiFi and laundry. She was an absolutely delightful person who made us feel most welcomed!

The room was large and modern, with a comfortable, oversized king bed. It even had an air purifier which was appreciated as I have seasonal allergies.

Breakfast was very nice. Not the best we've had in Japan, but certainly very, very nice with a selection of Japanese style breakfast, salad greens, fruit, yogurt, custom eggs, and pastry. Coffee was good and hot, as well as a selection of iced coffee and teas.

Location was about a 20 minute walk from the central train station, which we chose to do upon arrival to stretch our legs. Alternatively, it is a single stop by metro and a 1 block walk from there.

For sightseeing, we were able to take either the bus or metro to the temple areas quite conveniently. We found ourselves ending the evening in Gion and walking back from there, about 15-20 mins.

Departing a few days later, As we got our bags from storage, Akari saw and remembered us. We so appreciated her sincere farewell, wishing us a good journey on to Hiroshima.

On our arrival in Japan, this was the very first stop of our trip and we could not have been more satisfied. The hotel has a convenient location, walking from Kyoto station of about 15 min. It is fully new with traditional wooden lobby which really suits it. The breakfast was very generous and the yukatas awating in the room only enhanced our first japanese experience. I would personally like to thank Mr. Kaito from reception for a warm welcome and help with organization of our travel plans throughout Kyoto.

I stayed at the hotel for a week with friends and highly recommend it.
The hotel is very lovely, rooms good, staff very helpful.
The breakfast was superb. I am gluten free and in Japan it is sometimes difficult to be sure but this hotel had gluten free rolls clearly marked and plenty of choice. The staff were always willing to help if I wasn’t sure.
The same with the restaurant meals. The downside was the QR code ordering system which personally I don’t like. Ask if you are gluten free as they were able to do the pasta meals gluten free and this didn’t show on the menu. Again the staff were very helpful.
There were plenty of restaurants within walking distance. We ate at Taste Restaurant over the road to the Hilton which we recommend.
We used the taxis a lot which were easily available outside the hotel and reasonable.
There are many beautiful places to visit in this area of Japan. My favourites were the Quan Yin temple and the Kurama temple but there were so many.
November is a great time to visit as the colour of the leaves is just stunning.

This is a fairly new hotel which has been thoughtfully designed and decorated, and seemed to be busy. We booked a King Superior room, which we had expected to be at a higher standard, but it had no window, only a light well, which was claustrophobic. The room itself was equipped with most of the necessities, and the huge bed and pillows were very comfortable. The blockout curtain worked well (although it wasn’t challenged by the weak light coming through the light well!).

The staff was friendly and helpful, and one staff member went out of his way to help us with a problem that arose during our time in Kyoto, which we very much appreciated.

The worst thing about the hotel was the lack of decent western-style breakfast options. The hot food was cold (including the scrambled eggs), and there was no toaster. There was a microwave to heat up the stale pastries. Waffles are sometimes on offer and they were nice. This hotel will really need to improve its breakfasts if it wants to attract foreign guests. The Japanese breakfast options looked good, but although we love Japanese food, it is not what we want for breakfast.

The location is central and there is a subway stop about 5 minutes walk away. Kyoto Station is a longish walk, or a short taxi ride. It’s very much in a business district, and the main shopping street is about 10 minutes walk. There aren’t a lot of restaurant options nearby. Dinner at the hotel cafe was good though.
