Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

This place deserves a 5 star rating on the basis of the outstanding cuisine in its dining room. Truly excellent food, artfully prepared -- very original and creative dishes, beautifully presented. We stayed two nights and had their dinners each night -- each was very different. In our three weeks in Japan we had numerous really great meals, but the two at Sun Members Kyoto Saga were stand outs. The dining room has won several prizes and much of the credit has to go to its executive chef Mr. Takeuchi. The dining experience was all the better for the excellent service -- particular mention to Kanako and Chiaki for their personable and smiling manners. The breakfasts we had here were also remarkable for their preparation and diversity of dishes. The hotel rooms were fine and included everything you would expect -- little on the small side and a hint of previous occupants who had smoked -- but really just fine. The hotel has convenient access to the JR Sagano Line that will get you downtown quickly for less than 200 Yen. The station is a quiet 10 minutes walk from the hotel and the hotel offers a free shuttle too. It is also in walking distance of the tourist sites in Sagano and Arashiyama.

This hotel needs updating the wall paper in the hallway was torn in several places. The carpeting was in the hallway was dirty and worn. Some people in our group would not stay there and left for another hotel. It is not close to shopping and only a few restaurant were arround. The room had an odor when you frist walk in. It looked clean and the bath was clean. Breakfast was included it was just a snack. The staff was very pleasant and helpfull.

For the tourist, this hotel is not in a good location. I would recommend one find something more centrally located While there is a bus stop in the same block with frequent buses which can be taken to all the sites, time is lost in doing so. There is a JR station which is 15 minutes away, according to staff, it always took longer for us to walk it. The rooms were typical Japanese hotel rooms: a bit small, with little storage. The bathroom is a step up, which can be tricky at night. Hair dryer provided. Large containers of body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap are available. A electric pot for heating water is provided, as are bags of green and black tea. There is a small refrigerator in the room. Internet is free. The staff was friendly and helpful, but sometimes communication was a bit difficult. Price of room was reasonable, but sometimes location is worth the extra dollars. The neighborhood was safe, providing no concern about walking at night. A nice grocery is just a few blocks down the street.

Dear NetaVee Thank you for choosing our hotel. We are glad to hear your experience in our hotel. The hotel location might be a little bit far from JR station, so, you would think inconvenient for it. We have a shuttle bus from JR Saga-Arashiyama station to our hotel; 16:00, 17:00, 18:30. The bus need to make a reservation in advance. By the way, have you ever eaten dinner in our hotel? If not, I would recommend eating our meal in the next visit. We have a special Japanese cuisine and Sake to entertain you. We hope to see you again. Thank you.

We booked at this hotel when everything else in Kyoto was either sold out or ridiculously expensive (it was cherry blossom season). And we're so glad that we did. The hotel is accessible from the JR local line from downtown Kyoto (take about 20 minutes) and this is covered by your JR Pass if you have one. It's about a 15-minute walk or a 600-yen taxi ride from Saga-Arashiyama station to the hotel. The area that the hotel is in is within walking distance (1 km) of the Snow Monkey Park, the Arashiyama Bamboo Forest, and the start of the Kyoto Trail. If those attractions are on your list this is a great choice. The hotel itself is very Japanese -- the staff may have limited English (although they were very accommodating and this was never an issue). The printed materials are mainly in Japanese as well although they can find English translations of things. But you're in Japan; if you're looking for a Japanese experience this is a good pick. Our room was excellent -- a small two-room suite (we were traveling with our adult son) with everything that we needed including pourover coffee and a small fridge. The windows even opened (a huge plus as we love fresh air at nights). The beds were large and very firm but quite comfortable. Our room came with breakfast, which was a Japanese breakfast served from 7:30 to 9:30 am. This was one of the highlights of our stay -- breakfast was served Japanese style with several different small dishes, and rice or a rice porridge as well as miso soup and many other treats. Everyone at the hotel was very helpful throughout our four-day stay there. I would stay there again.

Dear Jeff N Thank you for choosing our hotel. We are very happy to hear that you experienced “Japan” in our hotel. Your feedback is very encouraging for us. Our hotel’s location is near here from downtown Arashiyama. The town has a color in every season, and each of them is so unique and beautiful. Therefore, you would never get bored if you visit next time. Did you enjoy our breakfast? Our Japanese-style-breakfast is very popular not only Japanese but also other country guests. If you visit our hotel next time, I would like to recommend eating our dinner. We have a good Japanese food and Sake for you. You would experience “Japan” deeply. We are looking forward seeing you again soon. Thank you.

I ended up booked here because I was slow in booking. But I have to say I couldn't have been happier in the end. Very very nice and helpful staff. Room was fine in size and immaculate. Full service every day. Good AC (it was mid 30's when I visited) The food was the highlight. The nightly 9 course (all small portions) meal was from heaven. I love Japanese food but this was just superb. Mini bus to and from the nearby train station, few restaurants within walking distant as were a few supermarkets if you wanted snacks.

Superb individual well maintained hotel with friendly, helpful staff that go out of their way to make your stay a great experience and offer a taste of Traditional Japanese hospitality. Spacious, clean bedroom with comfortable beds, excellent views to the hills, good size bathroom with shower and toiletries. Excellent Japanese breakfast beautifully presented or you can go for a Western style breakfast option. The hotel also has a lounge and restaurant as well as a characterful little shop area. Only downside is Wifi restricted to the downstairs area and not in Kyoto centre. However, there is a morning hotel shuttle service or 20 minute walk to the JR train station where you can use your JR Rail Pass to get to Kyoto or alternatively a bus that stops 2 minutes from the hotel. Located near some great restaurants and also supermarket close by. About 20 minutes pleasant walk to Arashiyama sights like the Bamboo Grove, temples and Katsura River where we had a very relaxing boat trip, saw some comoranrs and herons and had a few lovely walks along the river near the monkey park.

It's located in quiet residential area surrounded by several historic places where are good to jog in the morning. The room is comfortable and more than worth of the charges. One of tram station is walk-distance. The bus from citycenter will stop front. (You'd be better to try getting on tram-train which you will see a standpoint of kyoto people's life) The staffs are friendly. There're free carpark. Their breakfast are tasteful, kyoto-like and best ever in many times hotel stays, though I'm japanese from tokyo,I was touched by their breakfast!
