Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Very nice boutique hotel near Nijo castle. A short distance away from busy downtown areas. Walking distance to Nijo Castle. Very convenient to east west and north south bus lines. We could walk a block from our room and catch a nonstop bus to most of the major attractions. Lots of local restaurants a short walk away including tripadvisors top sushi restaurant. (It’s basically across a one lane street, you could literally wait in your room for a seat.) Staff was exceptionally kind, friendly and helpful, They reached out to us on several occasions to help us with accomodations, getting around and local events we probably would have missed if they hadn’t told us. We only planned on staying a few nights but our plans changed and we ended up spending 10 nights. Our room was very reasonably priced. We started to feel more like local residents rather than tourists just passing through and the staff was largely responsible for that. Rooms were very nicely decorated with a sort of mixed Japanese/western feel. Netflix on tv. Smaller rooms seem slightly larger than average in Kyoto. Larger rooms are very nice, the twin beds in these rooms were pretty close to a US double. Very comfortable mattresses. Bathrooms with showers and tubs. Only continental breakfast available and not a lot of other options nearby. The continental breakfast was very limited, soup, salad, bread, cereal, fruit, yogurt, coffee, juice, but also surprisingly good. We really enjoyed our stay and would gladly go back.

Thoughtfully designed hotel room with innovative features. Separate toilet. Shower head inbuilt into ceiling. Comfy bed. Amazing lighting system. Room designed so you feel you are staying almost in a traditional japanese lodging. They even supply a torch. Room feels almost like home with the large size. Smart tv where I could connect my own netflix account.
Free drinks after hours. The gym has treadmills with an entertainment screen. The only negative comment is the lift swipe access does not work on floors besides your own and when I found myself stuck on another floor by mistake I couldn't get back down to ground floor which is a bit of a risk.

This gem of a hotel has the most courteous staff with the coziest room full of easy flowing aesthetic. Comfortable beds and quiet rooms, home away from home. Full of amenities. 10 - 20 minutes walk from the major stations. Definitely will come back on my next trip. Thank you to all the staff.

I recently had a great stay at this hotel. It was pleasantly quiet, and the staff were fantastic. Although the location was a bit off the beaten path, transportation options like the train, bus, and taxi made getting around effortless. Overall, a wonderful experience!

Lovely rooms and lovely staff. Best part was the open bar from 17:00-22:00 with pour your own draught beers and sake!
Only downside was the lack of air con made the rooms a furnace and actually hotter than outside! But other than that wonderful place to stay

Great hotel, big and spacious room with very comfortable beds. The staff is very forthcoming and friendly. We also really enjoyed the complimentary drinks in the afternoon and evenings - there was a variety of tea, coffee, beer and Sake. Good bus connection from the hotel.

Favorite hotel we've ever stayed at, insanely good value! The buffet is very good, they have complimentary sake and beer from 3 to 10 p.m., and the anesthetics are very nice. The beds are comfy and the bathroom has all the services you'd want!

Gorgeous rooms, very well decorated, love the soji screen windows. Breakfast buffet is good, beds are comfortable and there is a lot of space in the room unlike several other area hotels. Only one street over is the Nijo castle. If you stay here, make sure you eat ramen at Menbaka Kyoto Fire Ramen. This place is tucked away and worth the stay. Only 10-15 minutes by taxi to Kyoto Station. very friendly staff.

Only delta: while you can walk to the train, taxi is more convenient.

Super clean and quiet hotel which is not far from the Nijo Castle. All the amenities and vanity goodies provided are of high quality. Staff are very friendly who can speak English and help us to communicate with local services. We enjoyed breakfast every day which included both western and Japanese food and drinks.

WOW! Amazing hotel, probably easily the best hotel I’ve stayed at in my life. Staff was super friendly, thank you so much for your hospitality. Would 10000% stay here again! Great location, not far from a bus stop either. Can’t say enough good things about this place.
