We stayed here for one night as part of our holiday across Japan. It was such a shame that it was only for one night as the hotel was absolutely gorgeous and it would've been lovely to have experienced more of it. When we checked in we were very kindly greeted by the reception staff and the lady who served us even upgraded our room which was really appreciated! We decided to have dinner in the hotel's Chinese restaurant that night. The food was delicious. So to was the breakfast the next morning. There was an exceptional amount of choice; cooked items, traditional Japanese, pastries, fruit, pancakes...You name it, they had it and it was all of high quality too. Our room was a lovely size; lots more space than a lot of Japanese hotel rooms. It was extremely clean and nicely decorated. The free shuttle bus to and from Kyoto train station is extremely helpful too! If we ever return to Japan I would make sure we plan our trip to have another stay at this hotel as it was simply stunning!

We spent 2 nights at this hotel and I would have loved to have stayed longer. Before I go any further and talk about the hotel, I must talk about the staff. While we found everyone in Japan to be courteous, the hotel staff went above and beyond. From the registration desk, to the men that took our luggage up and showed us around our rooms, to the staff at breakfast and the shop in the lobby....everyone made us feel welcome and valued.

Now for the hotel, the first thing that stands out is the beautiful water feature as your coming to the main lobby. The rooms were very comfortable and had a good amount of space. Hotel floors are by room key access so you feel safe even in the heart of the city. We had breakfast included with our stay, and as westerners the breakfast here offered the widest selection we had the entire time we were in Japan (including omelette to order). The hotel location was a little bit of a walk to the subway, but it wasn't too far.

We would definitely recommend staying at this hotel!

The hotel advertises as 4 star…no way. The hotel built in the eighties need desperate renovations to compete with other hotels in the area. The rooms are tiny & outdated. Very disappointed with the physical condition of the rooms. Extra hard beds!! One of few hotels we stayed that does not have bar soap. Do not recommend staying unless it undergoes major renovations. That said, the location is fantastic with Hop Off/Hop On bus stop in front of hotel along with free hotel shuttle bus twice an hour to Kyoto train station.

I’m here with a Gate 1 tour group for 2 nights and it’s clear that the standards are lower now. When you walk in, it’s quite nice, but the rooms are old, musty and dirty. The bathroom looks like it might have had a reno but the rest of the room is unacceptable. The vent is covered in black mold and the air filter is full of dust ready to drop off. Surfaces are dusty and there is barely any lighting in the room. Also, the A/C is centrally controlled so you’re stuck with a warm room since the A/C is very weak. Be careful in the tub because it’s extremely slippery. It was nice to have a free shuttle to to the train station because it’s about a 10 minute drive away. It needs a clean up which is surprising since I thought Japan took extreme pride in sanitation standards.

After many trips to Kyoto had never considered Tokyu Kyoto. But Preferred Hotels ad suddenly popped up on my Facebook feed so I took a look. The rate was great and it looked nice so I took a chance. I am so glad that I did. Right from check-in when Ms. Ueki so kindly expedited my check-in and upgraded my room I knew that I had made the right choice. Despite being almost full the hotel felt calm and peaceful. The deep rich colors of the interior, artwork and layout all helped create a very sophisticated vibe.
The room with pyjamas, thick robe, capsule coffee maker, high quality amenities, textured wallpaper and original art was quite frankly one of the most beautiful rooms in which I have ever stayed.
Breakfast was a buffet. Both Japanese and Western. Very fresh and tasty. Used the fitness room. More than adequate for a good work out. I had it all to myself.
So in a nutshell. Can't travel abroad. Come to Kyoto and stay at Kyoto Tokyu. You won't be disappointed.

Small room with bathroom so small there were no surfaces on which to put anything. Location is not suited to independent travellers as it is far from everything with no amenities or public transplant. The hotel has a shuttle but to the station but it only runs daytime and is often too full so people are left behind. I did not pre-booked breakfast, but it became such a drama when I turned up I gave up and checked out early.

It’s been a couple years since we have been here and it’s still a lovely hotel, so impeccably maintained and serviced. The breakfast buffer was excellent, especially the fish. The coffee was surprisingly good too. The hotel price is extremely reasonable, perhaps due to the large number of hotels here and the soon to be ending absence of tourists. It’s in a quieter area and right next to the largest temples. Tall people might be a bit careful of the low ceilings in hallways.

This hotel is situated near a bus stop which definitely helps in kyoto because all the attractions are in different corners of the map. The staff was extremely accommodating as they placed me on the top floor, gave me access into the lounge, and consistently gave me very accurate directions on how to get places. The room was comfortable and the price was very reasonable. I would definitely stay here again even though it's not right at the kyoto station.

Excellent stay at the Kyoto Tokyu Hotel. Within walking distance of the city centre. Comfortable and clean accommodations. I fell I’ll with a cold during my stay and the hotel staff were kind enough to provide me with a mask and tissues as well as direct me to the nearest pharmacy to acquire medication. Thank you Kyoto Tokyu Hotel!

I do not recommend staying at this hotel.

Negatives:
Location
It is not close to subway or bus lines that go to any of the sights or popular eating areas. We had to take a lot of taxis, which really added up.

No onsite laundry for self-serve
We had to walk with our clothes about 10 minutes and across a large intersection.

The hotel removed one of our beds on the last night, even though our reservation clearly was for more people than beds provided. We did have 2 reservations, but the reservations were for the same # of people. We just returned to our room at the end of our day and one bed was gone. I had to explain to 3 different staff members their error, which was very frustrating.

Rooms
The rooms are very small and the AC was not very good. They did bring a portable fan for us.

Positives
The hotel has a shuttle to Kyoto Station that runs twice per hour.

Good water pressure in showers.

You are correct. We booked one room and they hadn't renovated it, it was terrible so of course we took the pricier room but complained because we had book a 4 star hotel and the first room was like a shabby motel. They wouldn't accommodate on the price and I felt people should know and not go there.

This is a beautiful hotel, with a great location and free shuttle to the train station. They do have air conditioning, but depending when you visit, you may not need it. Each room does have it's own bathroom and hair dryer. Kyoto is a fabulous place to visit, especially during the fall and the spring. Have a great visit.

Hi I didn't find anything about this hotel that great. Location was average I would recommend staying by train station to get around a lot easier. Rooms at this hotel had hard beds , stained and cigarette burned carpets. Foyer was 5 star but rooms were 3 star. I would not stay here again. Hope this helps.
