Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

The biggest room I had during my trip to Japan with a comfortable bed. Great location just in front of the Kyoto station, lots of shopping and eating possibilities around. The Western breakfast buffet was an interesting mix of choices, but all were tasty and as you would expect from Japan all was perfectly organized.

Family of 5 (1 couple plus 2 grown kids and 1 infant)We love our stay at Hotel New Hankyu! It's right across Kyoto station so it's very convenient to go to places. It is also just 10 minutes away to Gion disctrict and Higashiyama so we just took the cab going to those places. Staff are very friendly and speak english very well. We stayed at the 4th floor non smoking room and the room is pretty big, the beds are big too! The room we stayed at is newly renovated. They cleaned our room everyday and even changed our beddings and towels daily. They also provided bottled water everyday. I wished I had asked what brand of body wash and hand wash they had because they smelled really good.

This hotel is old but very well kept. It is clean and the rooms are spacious. Breakfast could be improved but the convenience of the hotel makes up for any negativities. It is in front of Kyoto JR station and next to the Kyoto central bus depot. It is also a five minute walk from Kyoto subway, needless to say, a great location for venturing around different parts of Kyoto.

I have to be very honest this is a very basic and clean hotel that provides the necessary needs to all travelers.

However, we do find it a little difficult to convey our request to the receptionist at certain times (ie. when we need to request for 1 night storage of our luggages as we will be travelling to Tooyoka for 1 night stay before coming back and continuing our stay at the hotel the next day). Also, i do find the service provided tends to be a little cold.

Anyway, I do believe that they are doing their best to cope with the reopening to oversea tourist and things will get better eventually.

The hotel is located in opposite of the train station, next to the Kyoto tower. To the trains it‘s just a 3 minutes walk therefore.

The room was nicely decorated and spacious for japanese conditions. Wifi as well wired high speed ethernet are complimentary.

The breakfast buffet exceeded my expectations, you find many local and international food.

It‘s my fourth hotel experience in Kyoto and the best so far. I can highly recommend this hotel.

Couple of key points for me were not met. Ceiling vent in bathroom was lint clogged. Someone’s dirty sock tucked behind the main door. Obvious lack of attention to detail which says a lot about overall procedures. Kinda like the restaurant with dirty restrooms says a lot about what goes on in the kitchen. Not the expectation for Japan.

Terrific hotel next to the amazing Kyoto train station. Ask for room with view train station. The hotel was fine for our travel needs. You can do everything right out of Kyoto train station. We made a good choice- third floor Kyoto Station view.

Hotel tries to fight being dated with Japanese style decorations. Lots of staff at reception to help you. Checking in and out are fast. Convenient to buy box (@¥250 or alternatively you can get free ones from supermarkets) to post parcels to the airport to pick up later. Hint: they use japan post and not taqbin. We tried the post office just beside lawson but the staff at the post office were completely clueless! Hotel rooms are small but still maneuverable. They have several restaurants in the hotel but pricey. They don't have coin laundry in the hotel which is a problem for travellers. Fortunately, we found one quite nearby (10-15 mins' walk from hotel). I'm going to elaborate on how to get to this coin laundry cos I found many travellers lamenting the lack of one on the Internet. And previous searches proved not very helpful. Hope this helps. From hotel new hankyu, make your way to hotel new miyako (pls search Google maps). Basically you'll need to walk from one exit of the station bldg to the other via 2nd floor (fastest route). Go the the extreme end of the station and exit the station bldg (very end) by turning right and walking along the corridor till you can see hotel new miyako across the road. Cross road towards that hotel. Once you're facing hotel new miyako, turn left. You'll see a car park nearby. Turn right into a narrow lane. Walk straight on. Bypass 2 carparks. When you come to the intersection on the road (at the second car park) turn left and the coin laundry is the third shop. It's quite unknown and therefore quite readily available. Good luck and enjoy your washing.
Tip: once you've found the coin laundry, just head in the opposite direction and you'll come across a shopping mall Aeon very nearby. There's a daiso, Macdonalds, and several restaurants on the 4th floor. You can eat and shop here while your clothes are being washed.

I have read the reviews before I decided to stay in this hotel. I did not have high expectation since it is a budget trip with my friends. The convenient location of the hotel attracted me. I expected the room will be small with worn decoration. But I have never imagine it is such a dirty hotel in Japan. I even don't want to place my stuff inside the wardrobe. Despite of that, their concierge is friendly and helpful.

The second time at this hotel. Excellent location (Just next to Kyoto st., Isetan department store, also in front of the bus stop where we can take nearly all buses in Kyoto) lead me to choose this hotel for a family trip. But the air in the room is not so good because the windows are not allowed to open. Others are fine.
Japanese breakfast was average in quality. American style buffet was great. They were baking the croissant and apple pie at the buffet.
