I found a great package deal on website, and decided to stay at this hotel on my recent business trip to Kyoto. As many of the reviewers have stated, the location is perfect for both business and pleasure. It is right across the street from Kyoto Station's Hachijo Exit (South) and thus is particularly convenient for those eho take Shinkansen...

The hotel was part of a pkg - shinkansen/hotel, which was a good deal, but the hotel is less than desirable. Can't understand the layout of the bathroom. The toilet AND free standing sink are directly in front of the mirror, so there is no where to stand to apply your makeup. I personally need to be closer than several...

Booked on Hotels.com and got a very good rate for this hotel. Considering how expensive Japan is, this was quite the bargain. Pluses: across from the train station, so it is very centrally located. It is also next to one of the Aeon Malls which is FULL of restaurants on the 4th Fl. The room is very large by Japanese...

This hotel was ideal for our group of 3 generations ranging in age from 19 to 84. We had 3 adjoining rooms on the 10th floor of the west wing with views over the railway station entry and the western mountains. Noise was not an issue. I agree with other recent reviewers in that the basic amenities are done well,...

This hotel is situated right opposite the Kyoto railway station-a perfect location. It is a little outside the main area for visiting temples and so on, but taxis were surprisingly inexpensive and the bus was very reasonable. We took a bus into the tourist areas of Kyoto and it was easy to find the bus stop on the opposite side...

Stayed here again after a lovely stay last year. Adequate sized, clean room with amenities. Although stayed in the old wing, but I did not find the room too dated. I would stay here again.

As mentioned in the previous reviews, it is located opposite the Kyoto train station which makes it extremely convenient. We found the hotel through Kyoto Tourist Information located inside the Kyoto train station. They asked us how much we wanted to spend and how many people would be in the room. They made a call and found a room for...

This was our 4th trip to Japan and the 2nd to Kyoto. The New Miyako is immediately across the street from the train station, so side trips are easy to arrange and local transportation is convenient as taxis are plentiful. Being a large tourist destination, Kyoto is multilingual, including English. If you have a couple days, take a train (local)...

We stayed at the New Miyako in mid-September as part of a Shinkansen/Kyoto/Hiroshima package. To dispense with the bad, yes, the hotel is dated. However it is well maintained and the facilities are adequate and everything works fine. The rooms are comfortable although it takes some getting used to the hard beds and pillows. The price is reasonable for a...

The best part of this hotel is its location, just directly across the road from Kyoto train station. Stayed there twice in the last 12 months. First time I went with my family in November, we got a room on the 3rd floor, with a more country feel to it. Second time I went in March this year, we got...

Staying in Southern Kyoto

Neighbourhood Profile
Southern Kyoto
Southern Kyoto has a reserved air. Though the Fushimi Inari Shrine is one of Kyoto's major tourist attractions, the surrounding nature, parks, gardens, temples, and shrines provide less-visited spaces for strolling and reflection. The Fushimi Inari Shrine itself is made up of 32,000 sub-shrines, and the mountain they are dotted across beckons hikers, picnickers, and lovers of the outdoors. Many of the mountain's off-set paths aren't frequented by tourists, and the mountain's serenity can be enjoyed at a leisurely pace. Southern Kyoto is the place to enjoy being outside, and to pay your respects to the ancient architecture and gods of the land that are celebrated here.
