Very good hotel in a very nice location. 3 stations from gion area, accessible by busses. Staff was friendly and nice, room was clean. A little bit small, but that's how rooms are in general in Japan.

This is an affordable business hotel good for a single person in the great location of Central Kyoto. The staff were helpful and courteous. The room is very small with little space for a piece of luggage. It's close to the subway station and bus stops and right across the street with a good cafeteria.

This Unizo had just opened when I stayed, and it was in good condition. The staff were quite helpful and courteous. As is normal in many Japanese lodgings, the room was very, very small, leaving little space for a piece of luggage. Price was fair. Location was excellent - on a road conveniently close to bus stops and the subway...

The rooms are verry comfortable and, for Japanese standards, large. The beds are nice and the rooms and hotels are clean. The staff is verry friendly and helpfull. This was the best out of our six hotel in Japan. And also the one with the lowest price. We have had a perfect stay during the four days in Kyoto. The...

On our last morning, the lifts stopped working and emergency sirens started. The emergency exits were locked. All the announcements were in Japanese. I had no way of understanding what was going on, or leaving the building. It turned out to be a false alarm, but I had no way of knowing that. A dangerous situation. The room and bathroom...

Stayed here for 2 nights on the Ladies Only floor - in the new location, not the old one. Lovely hotel, fantastic location. I walked from Kyoto station one day and it took me about 40 minutes but is a straight road and super easy to find. Staff are helpful and knowledgeable. The ladies lounge on the floor is a...

Great location 5 minute walk from super restaurants. If you have time and energy you could walk to lots of the city highlights, otherwise the bus system is outside the hotel door. Bed very comfortable and bathroom perfect if small.

The pictures on Tripadvisor are of the old hotel closed for renovation. Google maps also lead you to the old site. The new place is beyond any expectations:very modern, includes bath robes and toiletries and a plasma TV. The staff were extremely polite and helpful and we also got it at a great bargain price. The location is very convenient too....

Out of multiple hotels we stayed in while in Japan, this was by far the youngest, trendiest and most modern feeling. The hotel was renovated only months ago and it shows. Rooms are clean and comfortable. The staff speaks better English than in most hotels. The hotel is close to major shopping and within 2 minutes of a subway station....

We stayed 3 nights at this central hotel in March 2014. The location was excellent and we were well placed to explore Kyoto. The hotel rooms were basic, and small- which appeared to be the case in many central hotels in Japanese big cities- would not recommend travelling with big suitcases as it is likely they will not fit on...

Staying in Shinkyogoku Shopping District

Neighbourhood Profile
Shinkyogoku Shopping District
Those who delight in shopping and cuisine will find themselves at home in Shinkyogoku. Lauded and visited by locals for its Nishiki Market, where baskets of fragrant spices, dried fish, and just-fried foods are piled high along the snaking streets of its enclosed outdoor shopping spaces, Shinkyogoku is not only a hub for fresh fare, but also for fast fashion fixes. Trends-in-the-making can be spotted in the tall windows of several one-of-a-kind stores featuring local labels and modish boutiques. Arcades, outdoor concert spaces, mega department stores, and small, enchanting cafes have sprung up to accommodate the increasing traffic. Whether looking for souvenirs and kitsch on Shinkyogoku Street, or scoping out the massive food court and restaurant floor at Takashimaya Department store, there's something for every wallet or purse, and a buyer for every item.
