2nd time back at Almont and the hospitality and rooms are as fine as always.
Hotel is a small distance from kyoto station Hachijo dori exit, about a 7 mins walk.
Rooms are spacious and toilet is of good size.
The onsen is very clean and neat, perfect for relaxing after a cold and tired day outside.

Great 3 night stay at the Almont Hotel in July. The hotel is in walking distance (10 minutes) to Kyoto Station where there are numerous restaurants. Nearby is a 7/11 and a nice restaurant.

The room size is reasonable, and had all amenities. The bathroom is small, shower is in the bathtub, the only disadvantage in this hotel. On the ground floor is a large lounge area and a reading area with books and attraction information. From 2 pm onwards soft drinks, coffee and tea are available free on charge. The breakfast buffet is excellent, the variety of food for every taste, comparable to 5* hotel.

Reception staff is friendly and helpful, with perfect service. If I ever visit Kyoto again, Almont hotel will be my choice.

Very nice hotel. Short walk to Kyoto Station. Reasonable price. Staff are extremely pleasant and helpful. Rooms are business hotel size, but with top class finishings. Breakfast was delicious with a variety of local dishes and some western.

We stayed at this hotel as part of our tour of Japan. We found the hotel clean and staff are very helpful and welcoming. The breakfast is Japanese style and we found it nice and varied. The hotel is located close to Kyoto Station. What made the hotel is the staff who are very polite and attentive.

Great hotel wonderful service. We would not know how to survive without the garbage service. The soaking place is amazing. Not far from the station. Many businesses are around. It is a hidden gem so to speak. We would love to come back again next time in Kyoto.

Not one of the best hotels that I have stayed in. The hotel is not central to the station area being half a mile away. Taxis don't like taking you there is it is a basic fare and they lose their line in the station queue. It is a funny shaped hotel being rather narrow sideways on. There are sick floors and the rooms appear sideways to the building.
There is no restaurant in the hotel for a lunch or evening meal and there are none in the vicinity it means another walk into town. They do provide breakfast of a sort, you are given a tray with a plate and cutlery when you arrive and you find somewhere to sit, there is no waiter service. If you want soup or cereal it has to be eaten with a tea spoon, I found no other implements to use. The meal itself is basically aimed at the local populous as there was little to tempt the westerner, with such things as fried eggs languishing in hot water! Two things more about the room. We used the Atwood handleless cups for a coffee (which we bought, not supplied) and had the audacity to leave them, on return there was a terse note implying that we should have washed up! The second thing was that I had asked to retain the room until 1pm which was agreed at a rate of 500yen per person per hour, at 11.15 I had a telephone call saying that we should have vacated by eleven. Right and left hands etc. Thankfully, I will not have to stay here again and urge other to give it a miss.

We ended up staying in the Almont because delays in our planning and caused a skyrocketing of prices at other hotels. However this turned out to be a blessing in disguise because the the Almont was serious value for money. For the price point which was around 12k yen per night twin share, this was one of the most value for money locations I've stayed around in the world.

The hotel is very clean and modern. The rooms were actually large by Japanese Standards. The bathroom was clean and all the amenities were provided. I personally never went to the public baths, but my parents did recommend them.

The service was also generally very good. One time I was in a rush and had locked myself out and they were able to resolve the issue very promplty.

The only real issue I had with the hotel was the location. Some of the previous reviewers had stated that the location was quite good. However having been to Kyoto 3 times previously I would say the location is slightly awkward. It is close to main Kyoto station (10 minute walk) but unfortunately it actually is on the less convenient side of the station. The vast majority of buses which depart for the sights are actually located on the North side of the station - which actually adds about a 10 minute additional walk to get to. Furthermore, the vast majority of sights in Kyoto are located to the North and West of the main station (Fushimi Inari shrine aside). Often these sights are best traversed by bus or subway and not the main JR line. There is also the period charm of Kyoto which is clearly missing in the area where the hotel is. I think these are just some points that people might want to consider when thinking about location.

Overall though, if you have many days in Kyoto - I can't really fault this hotel. Clean rooms, good service, brilliant value.

Location: This hotel is within 10 minute walk from Kyoto station.
Access to hotel: We arrived just after 13:00 from Hiroshima on Shinkansen on a rainy day. Took the Hachijo East exit, There were signs on the station platform. Even if you exit thru Hachijo West exit it will be OK (2 min extra walk). Once you are out of the station building thru Hachijo exit (East or West) you should find a multi-storeyed shopping complex “AVANTI” on the opposite side of the road. Walk along the main road keeping the station building on your left and soon you will find a McDonalds towards the end of the station building. Keep walking for another 5/6 min. in the same direction, skip the first traffic light (for pedestrian crossing) and cross on the 2nd traffic light on the main intersection. ALMONT hotel will come on the right side of the road after one or two buildings (can’t see from the intersection though but should see a LAWSON store which is opposite the hotel). We were in our room around 14:00 after a short wait at Hotel lounge.
Sightseeing accessibility: We were here for four nights and all our sightseeing needs were thru trains from Kyoto station. We did not use any bus service or conducted tour. Only twice we used Taxi service for short rides.
Room size: Our triple room were decent sized in the context of Japan. A corner two seater sofa and a single sofa were handy to have our coffee/ biscuit in the early mornings or drinks before bedtime. Soon you get used to the available space. Shower over bath tub with good powerful showerhead. Bathtub-shower and toilet-washbasin all housed in one area. Only one person can stand in this area at any one time – this is to give you the idea of the size.
Features: Have a look at their website as we did not use many features (viz swimming pool). Quite a few power points were useful for all our phones/Laptop charging. A multi face phone charger was quite handy. Computer and printer services available at the lounge. AC keeps the room temp. perfect to your desired level. WiFi was quite good.
Cleanliness: Top class. Newish hotel.
Breakfast options: We did not use Hotel breakfast. We used “Lawson – opposite the hotel”, “7-Eleven on the walkway from Hotel to Station” and McDonalds at Station entrance for that.
Food availability: Kyoto station building is full of restaurants at ground level and also on upper floors. “AVANTI shopping complex opp the station” has some good restaurants and Bar and we used them. There are few other restaurants in the area, we used one.
My rating: For our purpose it was top class and I give 90% however you will not get the buzz of the Downtown atmosphere here.
Comments: Don’t forget to explore the Kyoto Station building. Find the LED lit stairway to the roof (but may use the escalators) and get the nive night view of Kyoto city.

We stayed here for 4 nights towards the end of July. The hotel was easy to find, plus its quite popular so most of the cab drivers know the place.
you get off at Kyoto station (the exit towards kyoto AVANTI) and its about 5 minutes away if you walk.

Rooms were tiny, but had everything we needed, no complaints here. Bathrooms were tiny but well equipped too.
The Staff were very friendly, more than happy to answer all your questions and give you tips.
There's no room service as such, so if you're in the mood for snack in the middle of the night, your best bet is a 7/11 across the road.
There are vending machines with drinks and ice at alternate floors along with a laundry room as well as a microwave.
The breakfast was interesting, definitely worth a try. Mostly japanese dishes along with a few basic western options like cereal and toast.

TL;DR: If you're looking for a place to crash close to Kyoto station and you're going to be spending most of your time outside the hotel, you can't go wrong with Almont Kyoto.

Kyoto is amazing! We stayed at The Almont Hotel, easy to find, very close to Kyoto Railway station, room very clean and well equipped. The hotel has a public bath, so very clean, private and wonderful! I left my watch in the room, I emailed the hotel and within one week the watch was sent to me in the UK, free of charge. Without doubt I will return to Japan, and probably return to Kyoto, and when I do, I will again stay at he Almont Hotel!

Hi! I would recommend you to stay at the twin room or three-bedroom room of this hotel. Double room is really small in size while the others are more spacious. As for breakfast I am not sure the price is same for adult and kids, I think the 11-year-old one will be considered as adult while the smaller kid may charge children price, but better maybe send an email to ask the hotel clearly. As for quality of breakfast, it's really nice and if just for quality I will recommend.
