I spent three nights at the Court Hotel. It is in a convenient location about two blocks from Shijo Station, and an easy walk to downtown Kyoto, Nishiki Market and Gion. As a bit of an older building (they use an old-fashioned physical key system, and the guest needs to turn in the room key every time you leave the hotel),the rooms are quite spacious for a Japanese hotel. Despite the size of the room, there is no closet or storage space.

The bed is comfortable and they provide nice, Western style pillows (as opposed to the hard flat pillows in some Japanese hotels). Very friendly staff. They also provide robes and slippers, toiletries (no body lotion), kettle and fridge.Only green tea is provided (no coffee or bottled water).

While strong, the wifi is not very secure, as no password is required, in either the room or the lobby.

Overall, I was very happy considering the price point, which is quite low for a major city.

The best about this accommodation: the Location!
A bus stop is just around the corner (1-2 min walk) and the Subway is just a 6-8 min walk away. Very convenient if you need to go to Kyoto Station.
A convenience store is just across the street as well as a supermarket.
The area is less busy than other parts of Kyoto (Hiagashiyama, Nikishi Market or Gion-Shijo which can be reached easily by bus!) but several restaurants and bars can be found. If you want to send postcards, a post office is just down the street!

The hotel itself is good. Complimentary toiletries can be found next to the reception. Staff is very friendly and helpful at all times.
Housekeeping does not clean daily but if you put the magnet on the door they will.
On request we got additional towels.
In the lounge downstairs breakfast is served and in the evening you can go for drinks (little selection) and even bring your own food in case you are on a budget or don’t want to go to a restaurant.

The bed was not very comfortable. The double bed contains of two single mattresses. For me, the pillows were a little too stiff.
The breakfast is served in a little box (on checkout day it was served on a plate) and it is always the same: a soup (changed daily), a couple slices of fruit, a little salad and three little pastries. So do not expect a buffet.

We stayed at this hotel 12/26-12/27. It’s located within walking distance from the bus station. Check-in time is 2:00pm but the hotel stored our luggage while we toured the city. The room was clean and the breakfast was nice. It’s not luxurious hotel by any means but it is great hotel for the price. After all, the front desk staff were all friendly and helpful and spoke English. That made our stay comfortable. We recommend this hotel.

Booked a triple room, which is a single room crammed with small single (not twin) beds. Paid for four (2 adults and 2 children) and was only given breakfast for 3. Unable to open the kids luggage let alone ours. The photos are massively misleading. We have 10 days here :(. +Y6600 accommodation tax for this poor shoebox. Staff are nice, reception is the only large space.

We were fortunate enough to get a room at the Maruko Inn at 6pm on a Thursday night. The room was immaculate, clean floors, linens etc. This is compared to the last hotel we stayed at which I would have to say was terrible. There was a special on at the time through the tourist information center at Kyoto station (9th floor, great for maps and other info). The facilities have a laundromat and cloak room, and is a few blocks from the main downtown area. You can either walk or the bus system is fantastic. There are day bus passes available in Kyoto for 500yen.

Loved the hotel, excellent and great value

Stayed here for 5 nights. The hotel is located within a 10 min walking distance to the Shijo subway station, the nearest exit is No.25. Take the elevator at exit No. 1 if you have luggage, and cross the junction of Shijo-Karasuma, go west along Shijo street.
Check in was smooth, staff were friendly and fluent in English speaking.
Room was dated but it was cleaned and adequate size for single traveller. Bed was very soft and comfortable.
The only shortcoming was that the bathroom was very cramped and there was a very high threshold to climb in and out of it. It also had an unpleasant smell which I believe it came from the moldy shower curtain, it looked disgusting.
My booking came with breakfast. It was simple and fair: breads, rice, eggs, salad bar, miso soup, coffee, tea, juice, water. Skip it if you prefer something else as the buffet spread is the same every day.

I booked a discounted room through an online booking site but when I arrived I discovered that the booking had been cancelled. The receptionist checked and confirmed that they had no recorded of the booking. However, when I called the booking company to understand what had happened, I was told the name of the representative at the hotel who cancelled the booking. This happened to be the receptionist that previously had no knowledge of the cancellation, for which I was only notified of when I had arrived at the hotel. He then recovered from his temporary amnesia and confessed he had spoken to someone at the booking company about the booking and told them there were no more discounted rooms. Despite booking being reported on the booking site as paid and that the hotel and the booking site are connected in realtime the "manager" still claimed that there was no cancellation made by their staff and they could only offer me a room at the full price. Well I think you get where this seems to be going...
Maybe there was an honest mistake here but I was not given a satisfactory explanation by the hotel manager. Maybe the management can clarify the issue here and propose measures that they might be able to be put in place to avoid similar inconveniences for other guests.

Buses to all attractions are within steps of the hotel. They will provide you a bus list so no need to do research before the trip. Room cleaned everyday. New tooth brush, razor and towel supplied everyday. Room is of good size in this price range.

even a short time we have been in kyoto, court hotel in Kyoto was most impress in our trip. the room is bigger than the other cities we have been, more modern and also good faclities. the staff was kind and heppfull. the problem is maybe the same for tourists that travel to Japan that dont know abou6 electric 110 volt. our epectronics belonging cannot be charged or work. thwt assisted us to chare it and also in the room has a reading lamp with a usb port. we can use it for charging too.

the hotel location is easy to reach public transportation to access to tourist attiaction. so if we have another chance we would come back to this hotel and this city again

My wife and I planned a last minute trip to Kyoto to catch the cherry trees in bloom and found the Maruko Inn Kyoto thru a Japanese travel website. From April, however, the hotel has changed its name and is now called the Court Hotel Kyoto.

The hotel is centrally located in Kyoto, 2 subway stops north of Kyoto station and a five minute walk west. Although the hotel is set back from the street a bit and surrounded by other buildings, it isn't hard to find. Its a good base from which to explore Kyoto.

The room we stayed in (402) has seen better days but it was pretty clean and comfortable. It was rather small (the rooms across the hall were larger), but there was enough room for the both of us. Along with the double bed, there was a flat screen TV (with some programs in English) and a small refrigerator. There is also a hot plate and tea pot for boiling water to make tea or coffee. The bathroom was really small but I had no problems with that. Not much of a view, but it was totally quiet at night.

On the ground floor, there is a small restaurant and a coin laundry room with two washers and dryers. There is also a vending machine with beer and Chu-hi as well. Around the corner, there is a Lawson's convenience store and a Fresco grocery store. Both are open 24 hours.

All in all, I was satisfied with my stay there. The staff were friendly, the price was right and everything was very convenient.
