This hotel was the perfect location for our day trips outside of Kyoto (to Hiroshima, Arashiyama and Nara) and the Inari shrine. It was about a 10 minute easy walk to Kyoto Station from the hotel.

The free drink each evening was a nice touch, and the drinks after that were 500 yen which was very reasonable!

Our rooms both had small balconies which meant we had a great view of the sunset each evening.

Rooms were simple but exactly what we needed as a base to explore - the shower was always hot and the rooms were clean.

Wi-fi was terrible in the room but worked well in reception so not the end of the world.

This hotel is right outside the station. Check-in was easy. The first room we were given had almost no Wi-Fi. The lady at check-in was great and found as an alternative room straight away. Amazing customer service. The room is a good size and the bathroom has all the amenities that you might need , they also offer free washing facilities and a welcome drink every evening in the bar. I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody, wanting a place to stay whilst checking out Kyoto. I would definitely stay here and recommend this hotel.

We stayed 3 nights recently. Arrival from Kyoto Station is easy with the Subway right outside the hotel. Check in via the machine was quick. The rooms are large for Japanese standards. Enough room to work with luggage. Good beds and bedding. Decent size bath. Great water pressure. Here's the deal on cleaning people mentioned. No drama. Just tell the front desk daily you want the cleaning. They'll do it gladly. It says so on all papers. So please, no complaints about the eco cleaning. It takes 30 seconds to request it.
PS. Easy access to all sights via Subway and buses. Just get an ICOCA card and you're set.
Highly recommend the place.

The hotel is ver well located, and they have a few good and special things in their service.
In the other hand I really think their "eco cleaning policy" is terrible! they dont even make the beds of the guests for 3 days, they just leave you new towels, they even leave the clothing they give you on the floor...
The cleaning people woks and leave their papers, and "cleaning" tools all around the hallways.

Great experience at Sakura Terrace.
The rooms are basic but functional.
However there is a lovely lounge downstairs with free tea and coffee all day and one free cocktail in the evening.
Try the Sake Violet… delicious!

Fantastic breakfast and wonderful supportive staff.
Perfect location right on the subway and close to many attractions and restaurants.

We enjoyed our stay very much.
Thank you to all the wonderful staff.

We chose this hotel for two main reasons: proximity to the main Kyoto train station and free on-site laundry facilities. There are three washers and four dryers, with free detergent available for guest use. Keep in mind that drying clothes can take a really long time; the dryers aren't large, so if you can't divide your clothes between multiple machines, they could easily go for two to three hours before they're dry. I wanted to go to bed at least an hour before my laundry was finished, but at least I came away with clean clothes for the second half of our trip!

Otherwise the place was fine. Our room was clean and not particularly large, with free Wi-Fi that was frustratingly weak and slow at times. The shower was pretty strong, and the mattress was firm. The train station is about a 15-minute walk away, so it's convenient for day trips or getting around the city.

I think the hotel provides breakfast for an extra charge, but we ended up eating at the train station both days.

This was my third visit to Kyoto.I previously very much enjoyed staying at the Citadines but this time I wanted a hotel with an onsen, close (ish) to the main Kyoto station.( I had also stayed at the Righa Royal Hotel also but this was through a group tour.It was quite good too.)

I booked 5 nights (11,000 yen per night for deluxe twin including breakfast) for February 8 to 13 through Hotels.com and paid in advance Through Hotels.com, the third party, I requested a quiet room on a high floor.
The hotel is south of the Kyoto station at a busy intersection so two sides of the hotel , south and east sides overlook busy roads .Our room was 723, overlooking one of the busy roads. The room itself was great. New, spacious and very comfortable. Despite double glazing and being 7 floors up, to me the traffic noise was VERY annoying.(I am hard of hearing but traffic noise sensitive.) It didn't worry my 21 year old son at all.

After the first night I requested a change of room.I was very fortunate because it was low season and a choice of alternative rooms was available. The north and west sides of the hotel are quiet.Rooms on these sides have balconies. The first alternative room I was offered was another twin but cramped with the beds jammed together, smaller than my original room. Then I was offered a balcony twin room on the north side (#832) .This room was fabulous. Huge (estimated twice the size of the original room , same bathroom) but they were unable to tell me in square metres. The beds were 2 three quarter beds and soft!! Superior to the beds in the original room. The room incorporated a large TV area with sofa AND a lounge chair.I paid 3000 yen extra per night for this room but at 14,000 yen incuding breakfast this was very good value.

I would like to thank Yamada-san for arranging the room change as well as for other assistance with sightseeing enquiries .All the staff were welcoming and unfailingly helpful, although with varying English skills.

The breakfast (included in my rate) I really enjoyed.Natural yoghurt with mixed frozen (defrosted) berries, cereal, fresh fruit (banana, sliced orange and grapefruit) , beautiful small pastries prepared on the premises, small rolls with a range of fillings including smoked salmon, prawns or ham.Several hot offerings. Not a traditional Japanese breakfast. Two coffee machines with great coffee .The dining room/bar area is very nice with a terrace for warmer weather.

I did find the onsen to be too hot for me, unfortunately, because this is one of the reasons I chose this hotel.

There were 3 top loading washing machines and dryers.

Location: Not far from the Kyoto station and an easy walk unless it is freezing cold or raining or with small children. A taxi cost about 700 yen.Nothing much in the way of restaurants in the immediate area. A Joshin electronics store across the street. Subway station at the door.

I think it is a good hotel IF you get a quiet room. This is not possible to guarantee if you use a third party site and when the hotel is full.

What more could you want? We recently stayed at the Sakura Terrace for 3 nights in a double room. If you arrive by train, it is a 10 minute walk (if that) to the hotel by going out the South Gate of the train station. The hotel is located also at a subway stop and a 5 minute walk from a bus stop where you can go directly to Kinkaju. The hotel is very nice, the rooms are fine, beds extremely comfortable, our room had a nice bath with soaking tub. Breakfast was incredible, great pastries, smoothies, delicious French toast, juices, yogurt, cereals plus a wide assortment of Asian dishes. You could eat breakfast inside the dining room or outside in a nice patio. We used the onsen which was nice, it had a changing area with lockers and facilities to shave, there was one large pool and a smaller plunge pool. There was also a very nice dry sauna with a tv. Every night in the bar, guests were offered one free cocktail (such as mojito, el diablo, gin and tonic etc) plus there was live music. This was a very nice touch indeed and made for a very nice social atmosphere. The staff here were exceptionally nice, you could get your all day bus ticket for 500 yen right at the front desk plus they had maps of Kyoto, bus route maps etc for guests. All in all, we really enjoyed staying at the Sakura Terrace. I thought it was great value for the money and would definitely stay here again!

We arrived at the hotel early and was told that we can only check in at 2pm. We was fine with this as this is a norm everywhere so we deposited our luggage with the hotel staff and went to explore the city.

When we returned, the check in was quite quick and was smooth. Although the hotel staff speak limited English but it was sufficient to get information across. They took the effort to explain all the facilities and benefits for guests.
Each morning, drinks at the cafe are free for all guests. Coffee, tea and some cold drinks are completely free.
Per night, one welcome drink is available for each guest. There are a small variety of alcoholic drinks available and of course non alcoholic drinks as well. There is also live music for the nights that I stayed there. The terrace area is really suitable to relax after a day of exploring.

As I was staying in the standard room, upon entering the room, it definitely feel much smaller as compared to a standard room in other countries. But as compared with a standard room of other hotels in Japan, the layout of the room make it a little more spacious.
The room and toilet was clean, neat and with no bad smell. All the necessary amenities are available. My partner commented that the hair dryer was particularly good.
The hotel provide 2 set of slippers for each staying guest. One for in room use while one for public bath use. Bath robe is also provide for public bath usage.

The public bath is relatively small but I believe is sufficient given the hotel size. Everything was decent within the public bath. I went on a odd timing thus it was not crowded at all.
It is open in the early morning till late night with a short closing period in between.
Male and female have separate areas.

The hotel staff are friendly and knowledgeable and always managed to help us navigate. The hotel also sells day pass for buses and provide maps and information sheets for the different attractions.
The location of the hotel is very good. It is an approx 5 minutes walk to the busy Kyoto station.
Right outside the hotel is a subway station and across the street is a bus stop.

There are many convenience stores located around the hotel vicinity. There are plenty of izakaya(grill/beer stalls) located within waking distance as well.
These make up for the absence of in room dining option not provided by the hotel.

Also to mentioned, guests are also able to visit the Sister hotel, the gallery for their restaurant that serve good food at very affordable pricing.

One thing I personally does not like will be the hotel lifts lighting. I do understand it may be to represent Sakura with its pinkish lighting but I just do not exactly feel good about it.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay at this hotel and I will definitely recommend it and return should I visit Kyoto again.

Although Sakura Terrace has a number of great ratings on TripAdvisor, this hotel was just average for us. Sakura Terrace was not our first choice for the 2016 Cherry Blossom season, but this was one of the very few hotels available for booking five months prior to Sakura.

Pros
- Less than 10-minute walk to/from Kyoto Station
- Family Mart close by
- Rooms are clean and renovated (Superior Double Room with Balcony)
- Free welcome beverage each night
- Helpful and friendly staff
- Complimentary bathroom toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.)
- Free laundry (see cons, though)

Cons
- Hotel is quite a distance from the tourist areas
- No amenities close by (restaurants, shops, etc.)
- Laundry dryer takes two/three hours to dry clothes
- Limited non-smoking rooms

Recommendations/tip
- No major complaints about Sakura Terrace; however, our next stay would be in the Gion district
- Buy a daily Kyoto City bus pass to see the sites (500 YEN – can be purchased from the driver)
- For Cherry Blossom seekers, book a Kyoto hotel eight months in advance!
