WE spent 4 nights in this hotel. It is very close to the subway.
The room size was good and it was clean.
The bathroom size was good with a very good shower located within the bath.
The wifi was good.
There was a choice at breakfast of a Japanese style and western style food. The Japanese one was held in a separate room and of fixed menu. t was very good and not highly frequented. The "western" breakfast held in a separate room, buffet style was more popular and very busy and cramped at times.
The staff were very good, helpful and friendly.

In keeping with most Japanese hotel rooms, their size is less than a European traveller would expect. They are spotlessly clean and very comfortable enabling a good nights sleep.
The english speaking staff are friendly and effcient, providing a warm welcome and answering questions.
Coin operated laundry facilities are very useful.
Location is a real bonus, close to an underground station, with many shops and cafe / restaurants close by.
Overall plenty in it's favour with few (if any) negatives.
Hope you enjoy your stay as much as I did

The location of this hotel is fantastic, just a few minutes walk to the subway or to the main shopping area and river. Check in was quick and easy and staff were lovely and friendly and I was surprised how big the rooms were. Will definitely stay again

A typical Japanese hotel room, which is too small for a regular size gai-jin, but clean, and with very nice breakfast. It is well located and the desk is very helpful. I recommend the Japanese breakfast which is quite nice.

Good location close to bus and subway. Rooms small but very new. Exceptionally clean and quiet. Washing facilities. Bath and shower. Easy to walk to major roads. Front of house efficient, could have more English skills. Restaurant has amazing breakfast.

Hearton Hotel, Kyoto.
My son and I visited Kyoto in September. We found the Hearton Hotel to be very central. It was spotless and the staff were more than helpful. We wanted to visit the world expo and a member of staff at the hotel helped us to book tickets on line and also to find accommodation for our next destination. I would recommend this hotel and a visit to Kyoto is well worth while if you are planning a trip to Japan.

I picked this hotel because I found a great price for it on-line. I think its a real bargain with some nice touches -- free internet, an empty fridge (rather than an over-priced minibar), and coin laundry.

The hotel is right at the intersection of the city's two subway lines. This makes travel both convenient and more expensive -- there aren't many buses on these streets, and the subway/bus pass is twice the price of the bus only pass.

Also, everything to do is one subway stop away -- shopping on Shijo to the South, going to Nijo castle to the West, visiting the Imperial palace to the North, or dining along the river to the East. The hotel is both convenient and ironically inconvenient.

The staff was generally friendly and proficient, and we enjoyed our buffet breakfasts in the morning quite a bit. Kyoto was a wonderful experience, and our stay at the Hearton Hotel contributed greatly to our overall enjoyment.

The quality of this hotel is standard of Hearton chain, which is nice one, locates on Oike street which is just 5 minutes walk to the popular shopping area like Teramachi shopping arcade, Nishiki market.

But what best for me is that they offer a free bike rental for hotel guest; forget about J Cycle or other bike rental shop if you stay here. I recommend to try cycling in Kyoto, one of the best sightseeing experience. Many bike parking areas are offered at the tourist attractions just only 200¥ for day-pass parking.

We chose this hotel because it was near the Imperial Palace and Nijo castle.
The hotel is also close to metro station so we could go to other parts of the city easily.
The room was not too big but it did have a nice comfortable queen size bed.
It was quiet environment. The room was very clean as well as the bathroom. the bathroom had a hybrid toilet (a fusion of toilet with european bidet with electronic buttons). The seat of the toilet was pleasantly heated. The mirror in the bathroom had automatic anti-fogging.
The bathroom was also well equipped with toiletries.
The room had a desk and a flat screen TV.
There was free LAN direct internet connection in the room. Wi-Fi was available and free in the lobby.
Buffet breakfast was available for $10 per person. We actually had it elsewhere out of the hotel.
The staff was nice and polite.
The neighborhood was nice and there were shops and restaurants not far from the hotel.

We got 1st class reserved round trip tickets, for the Nizomi Super Express with seats on the Mount Fuji side. The 360 mile trip, was like riding on a magic carpet, it took 2 hours and 5 minutes, with comfortable reclining seats & high tech large bathrooms like Japan Airlines 787-8.

We stayed at Hearton Hotel Kyoto, Higashi-no-Toin Dori, Oike Agaru, Nakagyo Ku for 10 nights. It is conveniently located off Oike-Dori, an Avenue filled with shops & restaurants and a 2 minute walk to the Karasuma Oike Subway Station. The room was clean & comfortable, there were robes, slippers, liquid shampoo, conditioner, body soap, shower caps, q-tips, toothbrushes, toothpastes, hairbrushes, razors, teabags, teapot and a refrigerator. The bathroom mirror has a large square foggyless area, when you get out of the shower so you can see your face, there is a heater at the back to provide this service.

The Nishiki Food Market, the Food Floors at Daimaru, Fujii Daimaru, Takashimaya & Isetan department stores will make you want to find an apartment ASAP! The best shops are at Teramachi-dori north & south, Shijo-dori and Kyoto Handicraft Center. Kyoto’s top ten places to visit are:

1)Sanjusangen do Temple – 1001 wooden statues of Kannon – The Buddhist Goddess of Mercy. There is a large Buddha in the center and statues of the Protectors of Buddhism. The vibration is one of deep peace and tranquility. 2)Fushimi-Inari-Taisha - 4 km up the mountain lined with hundreds of orange Torii & dozens of foxes.

3)Kinkaku-Ji- The 3 story Golden Pavilion covered in bright gold leaf, the mirror-like reflection of the Temple in the Kyo-Ko pond is dynamic!

4)Kyoto Imperial Palace & Park– The ceremonial hall, small palace, regular palace and pond garden is tres sympathique!

5)Kiyomizu-Dera - The Hosso Sect of Buddhism, houses Juichi-Men (11 headed) Kannon figure and a huge veranda that juts out over the hill side, is the perfect spot to see the sun go down.

6)Ginkaku-Ji – The” Silver Pavilion”, that never got its silver covering, is nonetheless a paradise of ponds, moss, Japanese architecture & bamboo groves.

7)The Garden of Fine Art Kyoto– Is the world’s first outdoor art garden, featuringcopies of eight classic works of art, beautifully recreated and designed by the architect Tadao Ando. It is surrounded by ceiling water falls.

8)Gion District – is the famous entertainment and Geisha Quarter. The Pontocho is a narrow pedestrian only walkway, it comes alive at night with wonderful lanterns and the Poetry Stone by Yoshii Isamu.

9)Nijo Castle – “Nijo-Jo” – the Shogun Castle is a stunning monument of the warlord who ruled Japan for centuries.

10)Daitoku-Ji – A world of Zen temples perfectly raked, the Kotoin Temple is a sub temple of rocks and moss with a very meditative bamboo garden.

Nara is a 30 minute train ride from Kyoto and was briefly Japan’s first capital in the eighth century before Kyoto. Todai-Ji’s Daibutsu-den - the world’s largest wooden building, rebuilt in 1709. The daibutsu or Great Buddha contained within the building, is one of the world’s largest bronze cast figures and was last redone during the Edo period (1603-1867). Kohfukuji Temple and the wonderful Treasure Hall(Buddhist sculptures).

We planned our trip there, to witness the wonderful Jidai Matsuri – The Festival of The Ages, held annually on October 22nd. More than 2,000 residents, dressed in costumes ranging from the 8th to the 19thcenturies, paraded from the Kyoto Imperial Palace to Heian Jingu Shrine. It was like a Costume Museum coming to life on the streets, with entertaining Jesters, flute and drum music!

Wandering the streets of Kyoto on foot, observing each doorstep, the size, colors and patterns of the Norens, (These are traditional Japanese fabric dividers, hung between rooms, on walls, in doorways, or in windows) The straw protective symbols on the doors, many beautiful gardens, including the Zen spirit with carefully placed rocks, in interesting patterns or stones raked perfectly to form circular patterns!

I would agree with Mark. I would call ahead and ask. However, if you use Kuroneko to send it, you can choose when it will arive, so you could plan to have it arive after you have checked it.

Megan, It is higly unlikely that they would allow early check-in. They really like to stick to their strict protocols when it suits them. Don't get me wrong though - there are lots of nice staff members there too - but read my review to get a good idea of the place and the attitudes. They are not very understanding - unless you invent a sob-story or a medical condition that requires the necessity of an early room. It is likely they will insist that you store your luggage and go for a walk. Ed
