My partner and I stayed at this hotel for 6 nights while in Kyoto and I must admit, I didn't have great expectations...and boy was I surprised! The hotel is sooo close to Kyoto JR station so it was a great base for us doing day trips to Nara and Hiroshima. The staff was very friendly and very happy to...

Walk out and turn right, 2 minutes walk from the central exit of the Kyoto Station. Easily reach to Gyon, Nishiki Market and Heian Shrine in about 30-40 minutes by bus; to Fushimi Inari Shrine in 15 minutes by JR(check for the time table rightly). Classic decoration with cozy equipment. (the quilt is light and warm, organic towels with good...

I can tell that this hotel is been around forever. But they still in a great conditions. Great staffs and the breakfast is the champion. Breakfast is served in buffet style with so many varieties to choose from and very tasty. Also they have the Icecream buffets with more than 10 flavors to choose from and all are house churned....

We really enjoyed our stay at the Kyoto Century hotel. The location was very convenient to access all the sites around town. The room we had was the cleanest room I've ever stayed in. The breakfast buffet has many options and costs 2,980 yen so book with your room price because it will work out to be cheaper.

I spent 3 nights with my mum at the Grand Comfort Room Superior Twin room and my mum loved this hotel. We loved the quiet and classy atmosphere of the hotel and we felt very comfortable and at ease when we returned after a long day. The washing basin is separated from the toilet/shower/bathtub which is quite handy. The only...

We chose the hotel for 2-night stopover on the way to our ryokan stay in Arashiyama. It was perfect as it's next to Kyoto Station, and perfect for train and bus connections. There are many choices for dining in the Kyoto station upper floor but our favorite was a tatami style seating restaurant at street level next to hotel, which...

Key point is to get out from the Kyoto railway station through the entrance near the Kyoto Tower. We made the mistake of getting out through the opposite entrance and getting lost with our baggage. It was a long way to walk round the station. If you get out via the tower exit - it is less than 5 minute...

Staying in Shimogyo-ku

Neighbourhood Profile
Shimogyo-ku
Shimogyo-ku is centered around the busy train hub, Kyoto Station. A nexus for commerce, shopping, dining, and hotels, the Shimogyo-ku area is infused with tourists and local business travelers, making it a competitive location for ever-new commercial structures. The shops and cafes here are chic and trendy, as a result, with many recognizable chains. Commuters flood the Shimogyo-ku area twice a day, and with Kyoto Station itself being a modern mega-complex and an architectural marvel, this neighborhood is one of the most contemporary and energetic areas that the city has to offer. Buildings here look futuristic, and huge department stores, shopping arcades, and public meeting spaces provide every possible convenience. It is also nearly the only place in Kyoto where rooftop dining and socializing is available, completing its modern tone.
