We booked 4 nights from Villa Aneyakoji and enjoyed all of them. The villa was located on a quiet street close to subway station and bus stops. Several restaurants nearby. The room had lot of space and was very tidy.
As said, we booked the room from Villa Aneyakoji however the sign outside the entrance said Villa Mayu Grace. The check in was made at the hotel Mayu Grace located around the corner. Little bit confusing, but we found our way in and the staff was very friendly.
The hotel didn't offer any breakfast, but they gave few recommendations on restaurants closeby. We chose 7-Eleven option 200m from the hotel.

We stayed here for four nights and throughly enjoyed our stay. We knew the hotel was on a quiet street so this was not a suprise to us, Karasumu-Oike station is ten minutes away and has good links from there and there is a station even vloser in the other direction by Niji Castle.

At one point in our stay we had thought we were a little far from the Gion area and thought it may have been better to stay there but quickly changed our mind. In one of the big chain hotels it would not have the character of Villa Aneyakoji and the surrounding area. Also there are a lot of you chain shops in the Gion area too, clothes shops, eateries etc... but on the street of Villa Aneyakoji this was not the case. We found a couple of great little places to have breakfast and also evening meals very very close by and Sanjo street that is parellel has a lot of good options too.

Regarding location to the first evening we went out in Gion, we caught the metro (one change but very quick train rides) however when visting Nishiki Market the following day we walked back and it is really not that far and you see and discover so much.

As for the rooms, these we very good, two big beds that were so comfortable and super hi tech toilet (even more so thatn our hotel in Tokyo). I have to note the staff also, Japanese staff at hotels and restaurants are always of very high standards but the team here took it to a new level, absolutley fantastic service.

Our big gripe about the whole trip was we did not want to leave and wished we good stay longer !!!!!!!! I highly recommend the place.

This is a wonderful place to stay in Kyoto. It is small, quiet and very stylish. The beds are comfortable and everything is very clean. We stayed two nights and loved this hotel. The staff were welcoming and helpful. On our last day they ordered a taxi for us to take us to our next address. We were waiting for our daughter to join us from another address in Kyoto and she was late keeping the taxi waiting for a good 20 minutes! He didn't charge us any extra! Loved Kyoto, beautiful colours , Imperial Palace, Nijo Palace, lovely restaurants.

Great little stylish "boutique" hotel in an excellent part of Kyoto. Wonderful, helpful staff who spoke good English. Excellent, clean rooms, tastefully decorated. The hotel is very well located, with lots of fantastic restaurants in a 1km radius. Extremely well priced. Would thoroughly recommend, without hesitation.

I chose the villa Aneyakoji as a change from the big hotels around the main railway station. As it's located in a residential back street my taxi driver had a little trouble finding it but it was worth the effort. It's only small with a handful of rooms but is very comfortable and the staff bend over backwards in typical Japanese style to make you feel welcome. They recommended a couple of neighbourhood restaurants for traditional food and I wasn't disappointed. The only down side is that this part of town doesn't have much for the tourist, but the subway is only a few blocks away to take you around town.

On 1st day arrived my daughter had fever. Worst case it was Saturday night. The medicines we bring was useless. I imagined we will spend days in Kyoto in the hotel. Coz she normally took at least 3 days to recover.
I asked the male receptionist at the counter for any clinic still open nearby.
But what he did was exceptional.
He called a few clinics, booked us an appointment and brief description on the treatment required. He forsee we will hv difficulties to communicate at the clinic. He also arranged a taxi for us.
Miraculously, my daughter recovered on the next day. And we able to enjoy Kyoto sightseeing.
I forgot his name. But he is the Saviour of our holiday trip. Thanks man...!!

Staying in hotels in Japan is a bit of a hit and miss story for us. We usually stay in the 100-150 dollars range which in general means settling for a Japanese (business) hotel chain or an independent property like Villa Aneyakoji. We were very happy with our choice this time. The room was relatively large, two separate beds (even if you'd rather prefer a 'double bed' in Japan two separate beds often gives you a lot more space), with a neat bathroom and enough space to comfortably put down your luggage etc. In total we stayed for four nights and can't really think of a single complaint. The room was always spotlessly clean when we returned from a day of sightseeing, the mini-fridge came with complimentary mineral water (though one can also simply drink the water from the tap of course) and our room, although road facing, was amazingly quiet. One of the big pluses for us was the fact that one could actually open the windows. Many Japanese hotels do not offer you this luxury and as such rooms can get quite stuffy, especially in winter. As for the location: it is quite close to two metro stations though this being Kyoto you might want to settle for the bus which is more convenient. There are many nearby restaurants ranging from Western (Italian mainly) to Japanese. We did not book our room with breakfast, instead opting for the nearby Starbucks which was a ten minute walk from the hotel. The staff is exceptionally friendly and quiet comfortable with speaking English. You might want to ask their advice when going out for dinner, especially kaiseki style in the Gion district which can be a bit of challenge when you are a non-Japanese or non-Japanese speaker. The free wifi is very fast and reliable.

This small hotel is very well located in a quiet neighbourhood but reasonably close to the sights and the subway station. It is 3 km from the Kyoto JR railway station but, if needed, you can ask the hotel receptionist to book you a taxi in advance to pick you up (abt 1000-1200 yens that is less than 10 euros) or you can walk 5 minutes to the nearest subway station. The staff is very polite and extremely helpful. As this hotel is tiny, the breakfast room is the reception but you can have your breakfast in the room. I must comment on the bathroom as the Japanese toilets are high tech and in this hotel of brand new design. The toilet seat was like a space craft. When you sit down, the lights turn on. The operation panel teaches you how to take the best out of the experience. The beds are comfortable, reasonably soft, and by Japanese standards the rooms are large. Tap water in Kyoto area is very good and drinkable. This hotel is very well kept and so nice that we have decided to come back soon. This hotel may be somewhat difficult to find so you may want to make sure you print out the instructions with a map to take with you. It is great to jog around the park of the Kyoto Imperial Palace.

The location is about a ten minute walk to a metro station that is 3 stops to Kyoto station. So it is relatively convenient to get to Kyoto Station from the hotel. It is in a quiet area of central Kyoto. We found the neighborhood interesting - a bit artsy, and bit off the beaten tourist track. The room itself was lovely.

Small hotel, but excellent service. Very close to restaurants and experiences.
OK breakfast option... Or you can either try the local bakery or 7-11 near by.
Thank you to the employees at the hotel for being very helpful.
