I really enjoyed the location, right on the main commercial street with restaurants, stores and markets. A few block away from the geisha town (15 min walking), subway station and less than 15$ cab ride from the train station.
The room was small, like every other reasonable price hotel room in Japan, but clean and with a decent bathroom (caveat small again :-))
I really enjoyed the hotel and would stay there again.

Location: Located just steps away from a staircase leading from the underground passageway leading to Kyoto Kawaramachi station on the Hankyu line. This passageway also leads to the subway line and multiple shopping areas which is very convenient. The main street has a covered sidewalk so you don't need to worry too much about rain or sun in order to leave your hotel and take a walk. Easy to walk to Gion, Nishiki Market, etc. Neighborhood is lively but we had no issues with excess street noise from the room. Keep in mind that the hotel entrance is not on the main street, it's on one of the side streets (Fuyacho-dori).
Room: We booked standard double rooms. They are clean and comfortable despite being slightly tight in space, typical for Japan. Bed was quite comfortable, air conditioning worked very well. I enjoyed the bathroom shower stall with the fancy body jet functions.
Onsen: Small but nice onsen here, with a "congestion meter" you can view on your TV in the room before deciding to go down. I had a relaxing time.
Breakfast: We booked breakfast packages. When you check in they will take your order for the next morning (choice between Western or Japanese breakfast set) and give you breakfast tickets to bring. The only items on the buffet display are beverages (ex. tea, juice, water, coffee), and your food is limited to the breakfast set. We all ordered the Japanese set which had many items to try, such as shrimp, fish, pickled veggies, rice, soup. When you present your breakfast coupon, the staff bring the breakfast sets to your table after a short wait. And during your breakfast they will take your order for the next day, and give you a new set of breakfast tickets.
Other dining: The dining room is open during afternoons for beverages (coffee, tea, juice), and from 9:30pm-11pm they serve ochazuke with simple toppings like pickled vegges to go over your rice and dashi broth. A very nice touch.

This is our second stay at Bach Select Kyoto - everything is just as wonderful as on our first visit. The hotel gives you a nice luxury feeling without the price tag. Rooms are comfortable and well maintained. Room cleaning is very good as well. The staff is friendly and tries to help with any requests. Location is perfect right in the city Center and very convenient for sightseeing and shopping. Bus stops and metros are very close to the hotel which is surrounded by anything you might need (restaurants, convenience stores, luxury shopping ect). The onsen accessible complimentary with your stay is also nice and perfect to relax after a busy day. Just one small thing I wish I knew before booking is that the building next door is having some kind of construction or renovation and we could hear drilling for about an hour after we checked in. We stayed 4 nights and didn’t hear it anymore. We want to thank the team at Bach Select for taking very good care of us again!

5 stars for location. 5 stars for hotel amenities. 5 stars for cleanliness. 5 stars for the shower. 5 stars for the extra mile by providing free supper for its guests. However, im giving front desk service a 3 stars mainly due to a male service staff who did not even try to help but outrightly rejected my request for a room change. I had a bad impression of him because he was the only staff who seemed unfriendly and didnt smile at the guests. He came off aloof and because of him, the experience was tainted.

Try to check in and avoid him at all costs because i seriously do not think any of yr requests will be accomodated with him behind the desk. The rest of the female staff are very polite and friendly nonetheless.

Very clean hotel. We had Japanese breakfast about 2,000JPY for each person including tea , juice, and/or milk. It was beautiful and tasty. They have big baths. We enjoyed soaking the bath. We needed to pay 200JPY Kyoto City Hotel Tax for each person. I wish that was included in this reservation. We enjoyed the stay.

Amazing location.
Just off the main road and only minutes away from Nishiki Market and Shin-Kyogoku Shopping Arcade. Gion and Pontocho are also only about 15 minute walk. Metro train and bus stops are also close by. This hotel is in a great location.
We booked a deluxe twin room. Great, quiet room with lots of space and a large comfortable bed.
Good sized bathroom with amenities available (toothbrush, toothpaste, razors etc.) in the room.

The staff were very helpful and friendly.

Breakfast (choice of Japanese or Western) was included and this was delicious and filling.
Free soft drinks and snacks available in the evening.

The only downside was that the room didn't have a safety deposit box.

This hotel was great and we would stay here again.

The hotel is centrally located but the staff unfortunately is below average. Most of them are unable to answer the queries u put across but the limit was when we asked for some drinking water on arrival n they said they could not provide it there. A first from any hotel of this standard. The rooms are not well planned but housekeeping is fine. What we found most unacceptable was the system they have for breakfast. They have a single option for continental breakfast n were not even ready to cook eggs differently. Imagine spending 5 days at the hotel with no choice, just the same plated breakfast daily. The other option for breakfast was the Japanese one which guests may not want to have. It is better to avoid taking the breakfast. Very disappointing stay.

I chose this hotel because it was in a great location: within walking distance to Nishiki Market, Pontocho Alley, and Gion. There are also nearby convenience stores. They have comfortable beds and there is a vending machine, ice machine, and coin laundry inside the hotel. The bathroom is not as spacious as I would've preferred. But given the price that we paid for the room, it was fair enough and offers good value for your money.

Good: best location, located on the biggest street of Kyoto, near shopping mall, commercials, walking street. Near metro station and some important sightseeings. Free drink and small diner at night. Small onsen. You can walk from hotel to everywhere. I will come back.

very convenient location and close to train and bus station and shopping area. After 9 or 10pm, they offer a free late night snack, some rice and seaweed which was a nice touch. The rooms are clean but really. Despite two beds, the beds were so close almost like double beds.

Does this hotel have a tattoo policy for the communal baths?

Yes it does. They have to be covered or you can not go in. They provide you with 'plasters' but they are very small so depends how much of your body you would need to cover! The same policy applies nearly everywhere. No drunks. No tattoos!

The hotel's website has access information on how to get there from Kyoto Station in English. Do check it out. Do note that there is no lift or escalator from basement to ground level so be prepared to haul your luggage up the stairs. There is one exit that has a lift to the ground floor but I cannot remember the exact exit number. You can write to the hotel direct if using the lift is a must. Hope this helps.
