This place is a few blocks away from Nijo JR station and a Y2000+ taxi ride from Kyoto station. There's also a subway station nearby.

I wasn't in Japan as a tourist, but I don't think that its location is all that convenient to tourist attractions. Plus it's not really a restaurant district, but there are some decent places mostly in the vicinity of Nijo station.

On arrival, I was delayed and concerned that my booking might be cancelled as a no-show. I called the hotel and they were most helpful, reassuring me that I could check in 24/7. As it was, I checked in after midnight, and there were no problems.

My room was small but well equipped. The double bed was comfortable enough for my 4 night stay. There wasn't much of a view – it looked out onto the building next door. Like a lot of more recent business hotels in Japan, there was no bath, just a rain shower.

There were breakfast and lunch buffets, but I didn't try either. A Y400 or Y450 breakfast was available at several coffee shops near Nijo station, and for lunch I visited local restaurants with family. Family members who had previously tried the lunch buffet said they'd been underwhelmed by its value for money.

As far as my stay was concerned, I was happy with my room, enjoyed the service, and would stay again.

Urban Hotel Nijo Premium was the best hotel my husband & I stayed, in during our Japan visit in 2019. We were greeted by a very courteous front desk staff, that spoke excellent English and attended to all our needs immediately. The rooms were clean and ample, and the food was excellent. We felt so blessed to find this hotel because we were getting great service for a very reasonable price.

We are so grateful to the staff who even walked us to the bus stop so that we wouldn't get lost. I highly recommend Urban Kyoto Hotel Nijo Premium and will definitely stay there again when we return to Japan in the coming years.

Kyoto has a population of 1.5 million people and seems to have hundreds of hotels. It is cherry blossom time, so this is peak season. We are 2 weeks into our Japan tour and found the room here a bit smaller but with all the comforts - quiet, comfortable bed, hot shower and clean.

The breakfast room is small and there is quite a range of mainly Japaneses dishes, but to me it was a bit below the standard that we have been in.

It's location has several restaurants neaby and the omni-prescent 7-eleven store across the street. We chose to walk 1500 metres to the railway station for a vast range of eating choices

Pro:
The onsen on the 7th floor was nice and relaxing and definitely recommendable. Breakfast was alright. In general I love asian food but for breakfast it's not really my cup of tea, just in my opinion. Bakeries are nearby and easy to reach.
Contra:
Rooms were pretty small, as usual in Japan, however they were even smaller than most comparable hotels in the near surroundings. There was no closet for your luggage or clothes so we had to leave our two big bags in the entrance area which was pretty annoying to be honest.

One of the best midrange hotels I have ever stayed!!
What particularly impressive is the bathroom - the best I have ever had
Nice huge water pressure combined with two shower heads makes shower in the morning great experience
Floor tiles are super nice and not slippery фand at the sane time don't press into your for unpleasantly!!
Sink is separate from the shower which is brilliant!!
And snell in the toilet is just normal
While in all other hotels we stayed there was slight unpleasant toilet smell this hotel air is clean and nice
Reception is super friendly and accomodating!!!
And it's real close to the centre of Kyoto city!!

Stayed for 4 nights. We chose this Hotel mainly for it's location close to a JR station. Was not overly impressed with the hotel and services. On check-in we were asked if we would opt for their Green initiative, so linen would be replaced every alternate day. We opted for it, so promptly we were given a set of towels! But then the hotel did not carry out any housekeeping on the other days! The Coffee / Tea facility at the lobby area always ran out of items by 9pm. We saw this happen on all nights we were there. The bathroom in our room had a glass door, where one could be seen from the bed. I know this was highlighted earlier on TA, but just a reminder for people who may not be comfortable with this. Overall, an average hotel.

We had stayed here during our short trip in Japan for 4-5 days and we were up for a treat. Great customer service, easy check in and check out, compact room but it's suffice for up to two people, great spa facilities, laundry and dryer also available for extra costs, and the breakfast selections are just amazing! This hotel is also very close to JR Nijo and Tozai subway line, as well as 2 supermarket, 7 eleven and restaurants within walking distance.
Highly recommended if you are thinking to stay around Kyoto or Nijo area.

Our smallest room whilst in Japan, however the amenities are quite new. I would have given it 4 stars if it weren't for the non existing view from the window (you could almost see someones flat which forced us to have the curtains closed throughout the whole stay = made it seem there is even less room) and the SEE THROUGH bathroom door! I travel with my husband but everyone needs privacy. If you wish to be able to see your partner in the bathroom in a mirror (tactically hanged I must say) whilst lying on the bed and trying to mind your business, pick this hotel.

As for the bathroom itself, ours had a large shower with a glass door, pretty cool.

There is no kettle in the room, coffee and tea is available on the ground floor by the lifts.

Breakfast was ok (Japanese soups, some Western options too) although the spot was getting crowded quickly and there were people queueing to enter - you need to make sure you come as early as possible to avoid waiting to be seated and enjoy breakfast in relative peace.

I did not use the spa so I am not sure. Perhaps it depends on where and how big the tattoos are? I would ask the hotel directly.
