The owner is a con artist. He tried to double charge me with the "the booking company didn't pay me" scam. I should have listened to the previous reviewers. The owner would just do anything to steal a few dollars from you. Five star hotel? Absolutely a joke! Best to avoid this place altogether.

As usual, everything was above and beyond when I visited Sala Boutique Hotel in February and March. Everything about this place is just pure relaxation - from the friendly staff to the exquisite food and the cozy rooms. Visiting them on arrival (and departure) from the Maldives has pretty much become a travel activity by itself, and I usually make sure I get a full day there, both when coming to and leave the islands, as it's the perfect way to recover from flights/boat travel and getting in/out of vacation mood. When visiting Male, I accept no substitute! Lots of <3 from Denmark!

After a 3 week holiday in Helengeli we spent one night at this small but excellent hotel in Malé. Thomas as the owner and manager organizes the transfer from and to the airport, which is extremely helpful given the complexity of the city. The rooms are generous and well equipped with large beds and a lot of pillows. Very nice photographs represent different areas of Thailand. At breakfast, Thomas served a meal that included French croissants, chocolate croissants, German bread, eggs, sausage, cheese, fruit salad and everything else you could imagine including pieces of Dresdner Christstollen. At lunch we tasted the excellent Thai meals that his restaurant offers. The quality of all meals is truly exceptional, as Thomas imports fresh products from all areas of the world on a weekly basis.…

Stay started well with a staff member from hotel meeting us at the airport for the ride to the hotel. Greeted personally by the owner/manager. We took a walk to the local fish and fruit markets, an easy distance to walk. We had our lovely Thai dinner at the hotel, which was delicious. The room was comfortable, and quiet, enabling us to have a lovely nights sleep. Breakfast, which was included in the tariff was a wonderful start to the day. The fresh mango and papaya/watermelon was delicious, along with yoghurt, pastries and good coffee. Transfers to and from airport were also included. Thankyou for a lovely stay.

My wife and I spent our first night in the Maldives in Malé at the Sala Boutique Hotel. The hotel is cute and the rooms functional, with an amazing bed (Thanks Tom). The breakfast was great, with some homemade bread, fresh squeezed juice, and delicious fruit. We had heard great reviews about the restaurant and had dinner there. The food was super authentic and was amazing! We were planning on spending our last evening in the Maldives in the same hotel but decided to stay on the island we were on for one more night, since we lost a day there due to our speedboat to the island being cancelled. We explained this to Tom and had asked if it was possible to still have breakfast at the hotel, since we would be in Malé at 9:00 am. He asked us when our flight was, which was at 8 in the evening, and he said that we could of course still have breakfast and if we wanted, we could use the room till we needed to leave back to the airport. Not to set a precedent of course, but he went above and beyond! I would definitely recommend a stay at the hotel, which had very friendly staff and some very tasty food.…

A True hidden Gem. We ended up here due to some messed up travel plans. We avoided the suggestions of people at the airport . We were Amazed. Last minute booking, no worries. The Owners were welcoming and delightful, and exceedingly helpful. Where everyone else seemed to be there for their own interests, we choose correctly. The rooms were large, climate controlled clean and exceptionally comfortable. Coffee and breakfast were included. Even the mini bar was reasonably priced. The hotel had a Thai restaurant that was fabulous. It was the best tasting food outside of Thailand that I have been to. The owner took pride on having the ingredients flown in from Thailand weekly. Even th Mango sticky rice with coconut icecream was simply winderful, the mango and icecream had the freshest flavor. Again reasonably priced. We explored our surrounding streets getting true local color. When we find ourselves back in Male' we will stay here.…

I was so well looked after at the Sala Boutique Hotel. Being here for work for the first time, Thomas and the team made me feel very welcome, fed me extremely well (lovely European breakfast and delicious Thai lunches and dinners) and were very helpful. The hotel was very clean and comfortable and has a wonderful garden courtyard to relax in. A wonderful place to stay in Male.

Room was very small but clean. Decent for an overnight stay to catch a seaplane. Breakfast was lovely. Don't request a wake up call because you will be told to set an alarm on your phone. Owner, Thomas, told me upon check out that he "had a problem with me" and said Agoda (who I booked through) hadn't paid him for my stay. I figured it was pay upon stay as I wasn't charged at time of booking 9 months prior or since. I paid him, even though it was significantly higher than the rate I booked via Agoda, and was on my way. I got home a few days later and realized Agoda had ALSO charged me for the room. I contacted Thomas immediately about a refund, less the water we took from the minibar, and was never responded to. I tried to dispute the charge on my cc and he fought it and so has now been paid twice for my stay. Agoda will also not respond to me. The cleanliness and breakfast was certainly not worth what I paid. Steer clear.…

My husband and I stayed at the Sala Boutique Hotel overnight prior to heading to one of the resorts with over-the-water villas. We wanted to arrive a day early, just in case there was any trouble with our flights. Thomas was absolutely amazing, answering email correspondence quickly, arranging transportation to and from the airport, and even walking us over to a nearby pharmacy so we could get PCR tests. The rooms are beautiful and the Sala Thai Restaurant on site was fabulous. Fresh food and great service. We would definitely stay there again.

We loved loved loved the food at the hotel when we were staying there for one night before our boat ride to our resort. But what we did not know, and what Thomas the owner never mentioned (not his fault I guess), nor the island resort we were going to, is that we had to take an on-arrival PCR test on the island after staying in Male, with quarantine in the room until results were known, only because we were staying 9 hrs in Male. This because Male has high infection rates. In this context, Thomas the owner was still not encouraging a mask, did not wear one himself nor his staff and made semi-fun of us wearing one. In hind-side really not appreciated and silly in my view especially because any infections could have killed our, and anyone else's, long awaited vacation.

Who ever wrote this review here my response to it, it’s more than about time to get on with our lives, these totally over killed safety anxiety, maybe still wearing a mask while going to bed…??? Our staff is regularly checked, all incoming guests to the Maldives have to have a negative PCR test, all Maldives citizens are vaccinated, The resorts are unfortunately punishing incoming guests from Male now that I just learned by quarantine in their guest rooms! This is outrages and totally out of proportion We will have to live with this situation still for a very long time so the earlier we are getting back to our life the better, do support UK’s approach to drop all mask duties etc, they have realized that the world has to carry on!
