Great location with short walks to the Barra beaches. Friendly host. No AC but the fans worked well. Good place if you like a building with a lot of character. Like Salvador as a whole, it's colourful but a bit worn down and grubby. The shower only had cold water, though it did appear to be wired for hot water....

The Hostel has a nice vibe to it and we were made feel very welcome by the host, the ethos of the hostel is also really nice (a lot of giving back to the community). We got a lot of very useful information from the owner about what to do and see while we were in Salvador and he seemed...

This hostel is absolutely wonderful, very colourful, friendly and helpful. The rooms are very spacious, and you also have plenty of communal areas to use. There is Wi-Fi in the rooms. The breakfast was delicious. The location is great as well - very close to the beach, the shopping mall and plenty of nice restaurants nearby. The only small minus...

Open House had a lovely, welcoming and homely vibe with one of the best included breakfast I have had in South America. Many fans in the room. Whenever we had a question or needed help, Alex was always helpful. Highly recommended!

Alex was a wonderful host and took the time so sit with us and chat about what we wanted out of our stay to give us the best advice. We enquired about a samba class and his wife Jacquilene changed her schedule to fit us in - so nice! We even got a complimentary bottle of cachaça at the end...

This place feels like home from the moment that you enter the door. Eclectic decor, samba music playing in the background, friendly smiles and freshly-made caipirinhas are just a few of the things that greet you immediately upon arrival. I stumbled upon Open House Barra on my first trip to Brazil as a solo, female traveler back in 2010. Within...

What a spectacular place. The rooms are quiet comfortable and the best part are the ownerAlexe, who made me feel like home. If you´re looking for cultural experience, this is your place to be in SSA. Ask to Alex for his marvelous kiwi caipirinha!

Booked the the hostel from the high praise of other reviewers, we are two friends and booked a private room. Initial welcome was great, and breakfast was good throughout. However the hosts weren't that friendly, with one not even speaking to us and ignoring us completely for our whole stay. The room was big but very basic and dusty with...

Stayed here as highly recommended by Lonely Planet and also the values behind the operation were appealing. That is, supporting the local arts community. The place is definitely bright and colorful. Rooms, bed and facilities basic but adequate. Great location close to beaches of Barra and transport make it a good spot.
