The Chili Beach Hotel is located on a beach that was voted amongst the 10 most beautiful in the world by the Washington Post. The small village of Jericoacoara has become a much sought after destination by those in search of unspoiled beaches and a non-commercialized ambience. From the very beginning the focus of the Chili Beach Hotel has been to provide luxury accommodation and personalized service to our guests in this very isolated piece of paradise. The fusion of 5 star service and plush accommodations in this very distant and inaccessible region of stark natural beauty is unique to our hotel and has allowed us to cater to those that are seeking this combination. The Chili Beach has an alluring style combining tropical beach design with contemporary decor and luxurious finishing. This 6-room gem can be rented by room or exclusively as a unit, with cooks, maids, gardeners, butlers and security service.

Chili Bech is a beautiful resort in Jericoacoara. We absolutely loved it. It was quiet, and and the most accommodating staff I have encountered anywhere. I felt as though we were guests of a fabulously wealthy person. There are not many rooms, maybe ten, and we never felt crowded at the pool or in the restaurant. It was incredibly relaxing. It was within walking distance of many shops and restaurants in the town of Jericoacoara. I definitely recommend this lovely setting.

The staff arranged for a barber to come and cut my husband’s hair. They assisted us with confirming flight changes due to cancellations in our schedule.

Can't attest to the hotel, we stayed at the Hurricane Jeri Praia next door, but the restaurant was EXCELLENT, by far the best meal we had in our week in Jeri and one of the best I have had anywhere. The restaurant is located next to the pool and overlooks the beach, and is done up in Caribbean white and pastel. Our waiter was very professional and attentive and took good care of us. The food was, in a word, outstanding. My wife and I shared a ceviche to start that was delicious. Her seafood risotto achieved that perfect taste-of-the-sea, and my pasta dish was outstanding. Combining the food, the service, and the ambiance, the meal was one of the most pleasing of our lives. We decided not to go back for a second time because we were afraid it would not live up to the first.

Excellent boutique hotel that has a renowned restaurant. Friendly staff and lax pool area, the small quantity of rooms gives it a privacy vibe, perfect to relax from the craziness of Jeri. The room was always clean and smelled super nice. Located in Praia de Malinaha so not on main beach, but still close to the center of town.

Outstanding… my second time at the Chili beach and, again, a wonderful place to relax. The hotel may not have a view of the Jeri dunes, but the plus is that it is not located on the noisy main strip of beach. The service is wonderful - friendly and accommodating. The food very good - I loved the breakfast. I stayed the first few nights in an ocean view apartment, but then moved to a garden apartment (seduction). I think it’s fair to say that the garden apartment is nicer one - it’s larger and has better air conditioning. The only advantage of the ocean view apartment in my view is the patio that leads onto the pool area….a great place to chill out. I’ve stayed in several hotels in Jeri over the years and it is Chili beach that I would come back to.

What an amazing resort ! Beach front located with a beautiful view to the see. The staff is extremely friendly and always happy to help. The atmosphere is really relaxing. The villas are spacious and decorated with a lot of taste. The restaurant serves tasty and gastronomic dishes. Cocktails with the sunset in the garden is just wonderful. This fantastic resort is a perfect alternative since it is not far from the center by foot and you can still enjoy peace and quietness.
We can only highly recommend this resort !

Despite being "famous" and nominated; we arrived at the place and it was a total disappointment. small place, the photos are quite deceiving. Louse service, do not insist on being pleasant. weak sunset, without much view actually. There are at least 10 better places in the little town. The restaurant won awards, but really don’t know how… neither has a menu. Is the "fish of the day". it was a disappointment for the location, the beauty and the service. he expected it to be at least reasonable, but it stayed below that. I wouldn't even return for free!

We stayed here over a week of our honeymoon. We really liked it and it was everything that we would have wanted for this week - until the end of our stay.

When we got to jericoacoara, we weren't sure we'd like it as it is very windswept and the wind is pretty relentless - great if you are into wind sports, but quite stressful if you just want to relax in the sun.

The chili hotel is pretty well sheltered although the beach it looks out on is rugged and the sea looks quite choppy. The sun lounger areas are exposed as well as the pool which is a shame.

The serving staff were excellent and the food was fantastic value and amazing - although we were surprised to see when we left that it was described as an Italian menu.

When we were first there we pretty much had the hotel to ourselves which was great - although we did get woken up each morning by the breakfast preparation outside our room (we had the so called top end sea view room) but the doors didn't offer sound protection.

The room itself was lovely in the painted white beach chic way and it was great to have the massive telly at the end of the bed and be able to watch the rugby world Cup.

After the second night we decided to stay again and chose the room behind (garden room) after a day in the sun we went back in and the air conditioning was broken. I went to the reception and they said I could move Rooms and pay extra for the upgrade - which for a 5 star hotel is ridiculous and frankly not what I wanted to have to argue about on our honeymoon.

When we were first there, we pretty much had the place to ourselves, although there was one guest who sat on her own at mealtimes eating. It turned out she was the manager - which I find extraordinary, as, as a guest, you should never ever see your staff eating. She didn't wear uniform and didn't introduce herself.

On our last day there, we had an incident that highlighted the indifferent management and left us feeling let down and upset.

In the rooms the bathroom is behind the bedroom area and the shower has a glass screen as well as an entirely glass wall that backs onto a patio area, about 3 feet deep. On the last morning, my wife was taking a shower and looking up saw a person looking over the wall at her in the shower. It turned out to be a middle aged pervert in the next door room. We were obviously very upset by this and whilst they say it isn't the gun that kills people, it's the person holding it, likewise it could be said that it's not the hotels fault that someone decides to look over a wall. But no hotel in the world should have a glass walled shower when it is in any way possible to look into the shower from the outside. It is also possible for the next door room to look onto our bed - actually with more ease than the shower due to the angle and the lack of curtains. Having married the weekend before we had most of our wedding on video, but never thought of the possibility that there might be a copy of our consumation kicking about!

We were incredibly upset and reported it and eventually the 'dining' manageress came to see us and we explained it. We then had no follow up although at 1130 an hour an a half later, whilst I was having a sleep before checkout the phone rang with the receptionist telling us that we needed to vacate our room on the stroke of 1200 due to needing to make up the room for some early arrivals. No mention of our incident.

On checkout we didn't get any help with our bags and when we enquired about the peeping Tom the manageress said that it was the guest next door who apparently had checked out so there was nothing she could have done.

Actually what he did was a criminal offence and she should have offered to call the police, having no doubt got this man's Id to book the room. Whether we took it further could have been to us.

She didn't even offer us a drink or any kind of refund. In all a sour taste left in our mouths.

So a great place to stay in many ways , but I'd hang a towel over the windows!
Such a shame.

Jericoacoara is absolutely fantastic!!!! Would highly recommend Jeri and worth the visit!!!!
Great for windsurfing, kate surfing (you can take lessons for both), take the 2 different day trips 1) fresh water lagoons (restaurants on tour offer fresh good food and reasonable prices...it is not a ripp off but surprisingly good and good value) and 2) to the Sand dunes (they will ask you if you want to go on an extra excursion on this trip to see the Water horses - not worth it. The boat driver picks one up in the water and the hands it to you in a bucket and then he passes it on to the next boat driver and the next.). One can easily spend a week doing two days of excursion and relaxing or wind/kite surfing. If you take lessons keep in mind most lessons last 2- 3 days and can be costly.

Chilli Beach Boutique Hotel- Great location, Great Design, Secluded, Total Relaxation but we felt they were missing something...soul of the hotel and service!

We were so looking forward to coming to Jeri and Chili Beach and even changed our entire schedule for our trip to Brazil so we could stay at Chilli Beach! I had emailed back and forth with the hotel before the trip and go to know them via the internet and had a good impression.

However, from the moment we arrived at the hotel we did not get this genuine, warm friendly welcome which I was expecting from "a 5 star boutique hotel". Not a real problem we thought but as our stay evolved we got the impression that not everything had been thought through all the way.

The REAL PROBLEM for us was the lack of soul (passion) of the hotel, ie...the warm welcome, the attention to small details, service levels (you must get up and tell the staff what you want) and the language barrier with the staff. Not something you expect from a 5 star Boutique hotel and when you pay 380USD per night. We felt Chilii Beach was over priced for what you got and we were not made to feel special as you would expect from a hotel like this!

The staff at the pool, restaurant and bar do not speak anything except the local language! Don't expect the staff to come to you and ask you if you want something to drink as you lay in the sun by the pool in 34 degree heat or if you want something to eat. You must get up and tell them. On 2 occasions I had to remind the girl at the bar if I could have a Sprite 2-3 times even with one of the English speak managers sitting there.

Small details:
WINDOWS- in bungalows - if you are not a fan of AC like us and want to open your windows to cool down the room it took 3 telephone calls to the reception to get someone to bring a stick to keep open the window to allow the breeze to flow through the room.

TV - very complicated! 2 remotes no reference guide how to use them and only manager could explain personally

Airport Transfer - punctual, perfectly adequate but for 300 USD each way you expect maybe to have the car cleaned inside at least. Outside understand it may be a little dirty due to location in Jeri. Driver did not speak any English. Would be nice for the price you pay to have at least a bottle of water in the truck when you arrive and maybe a piece of paper or some information telling you how long the drive is to Jeri, info on Jeri or the hotel and maybe a map since the driver does not speak English instead of sitting wondering for 4 hours.

Coffee - Be warned on the breakfast buffet there is a Nespresso coffee machine for those who like more European coffee. They don't tell you or write anywhere but you must pay for this coffee. Again not what you expect from 5 star boutique hotel.

Chilli could be a real GEM!! I hope for them and Jeri that they get the right formula in place soon.

When you read through all the reviews of Chili Beach, perhaps, like us, you are inclined to ignore the one or two reviews that are more negative than others. We wish we hadn't - particularly the one that described Chili Beach as having a lack of soul. You were spot on.

We stayed for 5 nights as part of our 2 month round-the-world honeymoon, and it is absolutely true - it is like walking into paradise.Chili Beach, location-wise is even more incredible than the photos show - with the hotel room right next to the ocean.

To get to the town of Jericoacoara itself requires a 6-hour drive from Fortaleza along mostly unpaved, pot-holed road, whereupon you arrive in Jericoacoara National Park (which is pure sand dunes - get a 4x4 and a guide to drive you through; it's not a scam, it is much needed, although we did make it (miraculously) in a Opel Zafira unassisted!). It's a fantastic adventure, but be prepared).

You are then be rewarded with a gorgeous, remote, laid-back, town with a hippy feel that survives without paved roads - sand only (and cars must now be parked on the edge of the town - guides will take you in). Chili Beach is not in the least bit hippy, instead totally stylish and hip (a little bit too hip - there's a distinct arrogance to the staff and managers) , with a cool bar and restaurant, modern, stylish setup and welcoming pool - and you are greeted with a glass of champagne for the sunset upon arrival.

Bar one of the girls serving at lunchtime, not one of the staff members smiled (quite an achievement in Brazil, one of the friendliest countries in the world). The food varies from being very good (lunch) to miserable (breakfast) (bread stale, service inconsistent); after paying a considerable sum per night to be told you have to pay for a cappucino/latte on top does, quite frankly, defy belief.

Service in general is lacklustre. There is an absolute expectation to speak Portuguese (we speak several languages between us fluently, but Portuguese is not one of them) - or attempt to communicate in Spanish. One of the managers actually said to us upon asking him if he spoke English, 'if you are unable to speak Portuguese, then I suppose I must'.

Overall, we felt the hotel caters to locals and not to the international community (in our experience there, locals were greeted like family; foreigners served politely, but coldly).
As such, Chili Beach should not market themselves as an international hotel.

This could be an exceptional place - it is an exceptional place - but it is in urgent need of new management to give it a sparkle. Chili Beach owners - we hope you are reading, and then we would return.

Response from davidchilibeach, General Manager at The Chili Beach Private Resort & Villas
Responded 26 Aug 2011
Dear Sir/Madam To begin we would like to thank you for choosing to be our guests at The Chili Beach Hotel. We realize that when you travel you have many hotels to choose from and we appreciate your patronage. We are pleased that you enjoyed the location, structure, design and amenities of the hotel. On behalf of the Chili Beach Hotel I apologize that your stay with us fell short of your expectations in some areas. Our team strives to provide the very best service and standard possible and complete customer satisfaction is a hallmark of our hotel, as is evidenced by the other reviews on this page. On the very rare occasions that a guest is not completely satisfied with their stay we are eager to hear the reasons why and take whatever steps necessary to improve our service. To this end, I thank you for your comments and hope that the explanations and clarifications below help demonstrate our commitment to maintaining the high standards the Chili Beach Hotel is well known for. - In regards to the perceived lack of a warm reception you felt from restaurant staff, we are sorry that this was your experience. As you mentioned, the Brazilian people are known for their warmth, smiles and acceptance of all cultures and this is no exception at our hotel and is the impression the vast majority of our guests have had when interacting with our staff. In June, when you stayed with us, we did have an issue with a couple of the restaurant staff where their normal happy demeanor and outgoing nature had changed and these staff members have since been replaced. - We are pleased that you enjoyed the food served from our restaurant. In regards to the espresso coffee served with the breakfast buffet which used to be charged separately, after a few suggestions similar to yours we have purchased an original Italian ILLY espresso machine and now offer free ILLY espresso´s with breakfast to our guests. - In regards to the language barrier and the staff´s supposed insistence on speaking only Portuguese, to be honest this comment was somewhat confusing to us as we cater to both national and international guests and for this very reason have hired bi-lingual staff for as many departments of the hotel as possible, not an easy task in the northeast of Brazil where English is very rarely spoken. Some of our staff are, in fact, native English speakers, not Brazilians, so it is hard to understand why we would transmit that we were reluctant to speak English. My only conclusion is that there was a misunderstanding when communicating with a staff member who perhaps spoke very little English and I am sorry if this gave the impression that somehow we, as a hotel, preferred to speak only Portuguese or that anyone who didn´t speak Portuguese would somehow receive inferior service from our staff. For the benefit of any others reading this response our hotel would like to state for the record that we welcome guests from any location or country and strive to communicate in the language most comfortable for them. Collectively our staff speaks English, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian and we would in no way ever hesitate to speak any of these languages with a guest if it´s more comfortable for them and we , of course, give equal service to both our national and international guests. In conclusion, we sincerely hope that our response clarifies these issues and demonstrates our commitment to excellence and we look forward to receiving you again as our guests in the near future. Sincerely, David Gillingham General Manager The Chili Beach Boutique Hotel and Resort
