Staying here should be taken as an Experience, i really enjoyed how the place is planned in a nice way. I would definitely recommend for couples, As jericoacora is a magical place by itself , this place only makes it better. I would also recommend the dinner night they offer with 5 plates or 7 with a very diverse Gastro experience with local products even for those who are allergic to Sea food like me.

This is an amazing hotel by the northeast coast village in Ceara state of Brasil.
Fantastic idea with the romantic view from all the rooms to a private pool (upstairs ones) or major pool (downstairs).
All employee extreme attentive.
Not used to name nobody, but Hostess Mariana deserves special honor medallion! So helpful and friendly, giving us many tips best places to go or nice meals.
Food and menu wonderful at the hotel, even with a menu degustation.
My only regards concerns about the need to restore some kind of abrasive itens (no big deal on that) and also the needs to reduce the noise among the rooms.

We stayed at this hotel for the first time and spent 6 nights here. The hotel with the top location at the beach, the big pool and the nice rooms are 5 star level. The rooms have a comfortable bed, a couch and a beautiful bathroom with a rain shower. There is a minibar and a Nespresso machine. The staff was very friendly and the cleaning people did a great job. The breakfast is a la carte which starts to be boring after 3 days.

There are also some small things they should improve as not everything is 5 star. We had a very bad check-in with no warm welcome or a refreshing towel after a 5 hours transfer from Fortaleza airport. There were also no information and we had to ask for the Wifi and the guy just wrote it in a paper which he took from the credit card machine.

There is an open air gym an the fan did not work and the water machine was broken for weeks but the hotel did not provide an water bottles for the work out. This is also another downside as there is no free water in the room for 1‘500 BRL (450 USD). The turn down service only worked 4 out of 6 nights and on Sunday we had to wait until 5 pm for the room cleaning and they told us that they do not have enough people on Sundays even the hotel was full.

I was also irritated that the staff was allowed to use their cell phones during breakfast service! This is not 5 star but we also noticed that the chef de service was using his phone as well.

Overall a beautiful hotel with a top location and pool but the service has to be improved.

Upfront we did not stay at The hotel we had the couple traveling with us stay at this hotel. It was Our recommendation for them to stay at the Essensa, the rest of this hotel was sold out. So we stayed at the same owners property next door. 15 meters away same group runs both hotels.

After we both checked in we meet at Essenza to go watch the sunset on the dune. The security staff literally escorted us like dogs on and off the property. We just thought it was a little off once we met our friends they stayed right by us.

Next day same issue....my wife who's from Brazil spoke to them explained to the security we were just meeting them and staying in the hotel group next door.

They seemed to back off a bit but we're just rude and quite nasty.

Last day our friends wanted to hang out at the pool together so they invited us to take a swim and have lunch. We walked in no issue at all this time. Next thing I know my wife is telling me I have to get out of the pool and leave. Our guest told the staff we were swimming and going to have lunch. One Security guy made a huge issue of us. It was very over the top rude. In front of all the hotel guest, our friends even tried to pay for us to stay. They said NO!

Just be aware your group must all stay here to walk on the property. Manager Laura was clueless and just said that you can't be here. Never an apology for the staff, she said after she would let us stay but I was so embarrassed I did not want to stay.

Wish it was posted or said in other reviews before we booked here. We would have all stayed together should have gone someplace else.

Kind of just ruin our trip being treated so rudely. Would have liked them to explain the policy not get nasty and make a seen.

The Blue group won't get my money ever again. This was so you won't have same issue at this hotel. And we come back every year.

It is a pleasure to know that since the hotel was inaugurated the only two negative reviews we have are from people that expected to enter the hotel without being guests or even asking for permission to the staff members. We inform all of our guest throughout the Reservation process that it is not allowed to anybody other than our guests to use the hotel facilities, included the restaurant located on the beach. This is because our goal at Essenza hotel is to guarantee to our guests the maximum privacy and exclusiveness. We feel that if anybody could bring their friends into the hotel this would be impossible. I am sorry for your unpleasant experience but if you had called the reception you would have been informed about the hotel rules, spearing yourself the unpleasantness.

I am aware and agree that we should judge hotels and attractions on Tripadvisor by the average of the reviews. That's what I do and I hope you do, as well. I know that experiences are always personal and problems will always occur for a variety of reasons. Thus, I know the weight of ratings "grade A" when we're looking for a place to stay, especially if these high grades are majority. However, I believe that experienced travelers should pay some attention to all the experiences and not so the 100% positives. Taking into account the requirements that I have here at Tripadvisor, exposed to the left of this text, almost 80 helpful votes and level 5 as a contributor, I believe that I can help other tourists from all over the world (that's why I'm writing in english), as I have often been helped by you, brazilians and foreigners.
Is Essenza / Essenza Dune a good hotel? Yes, it is, taking into account what it has as a differential, the famous swimming pool-balconies. But is it excellent? definitely not.
There are several flaws, many of them narrated by other guests and, from what I read, the biggest problem is regarding to poor service followed by the worn out details.
In general my experience in the attendance was good, at check in and in the main pool area, should be mentioned the attendant Gabriela, always very attentive.
Other than that, it was almost a disaster.
If you ask for an ice bucket in the room pray to all your gods for it to be delivered. Mine ended up being delivered, after almost 2 hours, but ... and the wine glasses I've ordered? they were delivered to another room! well... so then they arrived? of course not! I'm waiting until today, already at home... But, ok, these were holidays. So I gave up those glasses and asked for another two glasses for champagne, since we called a couple of our friends, who were guests in another room, to make a toast in our suite, before dinner. Have the glasses of champagne come? Never... We had to ask our friends to gently bring their own glasses (by the way, a third couple, whom we met in the main pool, told us that they also asked for an ice bucket and, guess what ... it did not get to their suite).
Having to complain about something during the holidays was not what we wanted, but we were forced to do so, since the wine glasses were for an intimate toast, at sunset on the day of our wedding anniversary! You do not believe that that day does happen again, do you? me neither.
What did we hear from manager Monica? "I'm sorry it happened, next time it'll be better" and ... period, full stop. OMG...
Now the breakfast. As many have said, nothing too much. Common even and with limited options. The biggest problem is that it is only served in the pool area of the Essenza and all guests at the Essenza Dune (newer building, with more spacious suites than Essenza) have to walk down the street in the sun (or rain) to reach the breakfast area. By the way, such a walk becomes almost an ordeal, since it has to be done walking on sand, daily, for breakfast, for lunch, dinner or to enjoy the main pool, going to the (small) gym, (nothing cozy) Spa or the (graceless) saunas, all in the main and older building.
A hotel of a higher level would undoubtedly have a vehicle running 24 hours a day to carry guests. But Essenza is not of such a level.
When we asked why there's no breakfast in the new building (Dune), manager Monica said that "next week" it would begin to be served. But, you know... it did not sound very feasible to everyone who heard ...
In the face of such mishaps, we ask the manager directly if at least a late check-out would be possible, which would sound more palpable and effective than a "I regret." She said she would inquire and soon would have an answer. But ... Do you know when you already know what you're going to hear? "Sir, sorry, our hotel is completely booked from this afternoon on". This was curious as during the time we were there none of the 4 suites below ours was occupied and neither the next door suite (it's very easy to be sure looking from the street). But when we asked for at least an hour, one hour!, of late check out, she repeated "this is not possible" and, amazingly, she amended with "even because we emptied the entire pool in the suite and filled with fresh water before the next guest arrives." But how so?! Wait ... the water in the suites pools falls on the pool downstairs and these, in their turn, intercommunicate! So it means that while guests are present there is no problem at all being a large and community pool but magically, when the guest leaves the hotel, they manage to withdraw the water from the pool of a certain suite and, more magically yet, fill it all in very little time ?!?! quite frankly! this is ridiculous. Coarse.
And here, finally, I come to the title of this evaluation. Since the check out time was at noon, what happened exactly at 12:02 PM while we were finishing packing? The telephone rang with a concierge attendant exclaiming the phrase that inaugurates these experiences narrated here, something like "Sir, it´s time to go. You're 'invited' to get out from your room".
Let me ask you brief questions, dear reader: have you been through this? have you heard excuses like that? What kind of attitude is this? What kind of attention is that? What kind of hotel is this?
If you want to stay there, fine. You will make good photos, your family and friends will like the pictures. By the way, the photos we make showing the pools are so good that today, 07/28/2017, the hotel on its Instagram accounts, @essenzahotel_jericoacoara and @essenzahoteldune, reproduced a photo of mine made with my pocket drone. Imagine...
Apart from this nice aesthetic experience, little is taken of this hotel.

The Hotel Essenza is very run down property, poor staff working at the Food and Beverage department, poor internet and room had no hot water for 2 out of the 4 days we stayed.

At check-in when we arrived other that the lobby area property looked pretty nice, but the rest of the facilities have taken a beating with the lack of on-going maintenance. We got the word that a bunch of Investors own five properties in Jeri as part of the Blue Group and that they are only sucking out money of guests without investing in maintaining properties.

The wooden Sun Deck at the CULT Rooms are poorly maintained, dirty and mold steps to the main pool. The Upper Room pool in balcony has chipped and mold in pool deck.

The internet access was faulty when complained that said the were working on it on Sunday and I asked to find out when it will be back and the staff said "I will get back with you soon" of course not return call. Next day it was still out the called and staff said that the entire city was out, and when we ate breakfast at the property next door the internet was flying high, so the Essenza Staff lied to me and when confronted they were told to say that the whole city was out - poor management of staff.

The workout area was also poorly maintained, one treadmill was shaky while running the other out of power, not even a sign to say it was out of order and it not my job to check and report to the front desk.

We ate breakfast at the Kalunga hotel the next day because the Essenza Hotel breakfast was a joke. I ask for an omelet and when it arrived it are brown/blackend. The waiter looked at me like for them it was OK to serve burn eggs. Probably the normal quality of food they are use to. I ordered dry toast, that also was burned. How hard it is to see that you do not serve burned food.

I asked for cheese and meat plate that came with breakfast. Two miniature pieces of cheese and a couple of pieces ham and when I asked for more cheese at 9:30 am, they said that they run out of cheese for the day!!!! Who runs out of cheese?

The breakfast the the property next door was 5-Star, buffet style it has five types of cheese, breads, over 3-4 cakes, 4-5 types of ham, 3-4 types of juices, waffles, Creps, Omelets gourmet, eggs, cereals, a true resort breakfast, not the stingy breakfast that the overpriced Essenza offered.

FAKE Advertisement of Gastronomia on their website, they "forgot" to inform us that all of their meals comes from one of their properties next door, the breakfast was done in the same location of the swimming pool bar.

If you want a FIVE STAR Service dont stay at the Essenza, When I complained to the Front Desk manager he gave me the runaround chatting on the phone with the Hotel Director and later was told that the hotel would not compensate for anything on meals sine it was "contracted third party service, could not believe that response. They would not even knock off a one dollar chocolate from the minibar.

I bet that the Hotel Manager will reply to this review that I am sorry for your stay , Blah Balh Blah , but the reality is that the Essenza will never be a true Five Star Hotel with this kind of poor trained staff, rundown facility and lack for guest considerations.

Choose a hotel not within the Blue Group at Jeri if you plan on staying in Jeri.

Do not risk a stay at the overpriced 2-star Essenza Hotel.

Ok this is a nice hotel but it didn’t feel that friendly. Perhaps this is a Brazilian thing but there seems to be a certain amount of elitism and pretentiousness around some of the hotels which are perceived as 5 star in this country.

I wouldn’t rate this as a 5 star hotel. Why?

The pool is murky with too many chemicals. It should be a clear blue colour.

The WiFi is mostly useless. I couldn’t even scroll through Facebook a lot of the time.

For the price you expect a pristine environment. It’s not. There are areas that require maintenance and painting. Deck outside room was shabby looking. There are areas that require painting. Our duvet cover had a big tear in it which looked as if it had been repaired by a 3 year old. The grassy area outside the pool bar looks neglected.

The worst part for us was that we couldn’t receive a guest. They literally will not allow a non guest to set foot on the property let alone on your balcony! For this reason it felt a bit like a prison for me. We have a friend living in Jeri and I tried to bring him in. I was challenged and made to feel like a criminal. Reception said I could check him in and “pay the extra”! Ludicrous.

I witnessed 2 residents recognise 2 friends walking by the perimeter down by the beach. The instant their fiends stepped over the small shrubs marking the boundary 2 guards started ambling over. The friends were hugging each other and it was clear they were going to sit with them a while, possibly eating and drinking. When the guard saw they were about to sit down he cane over to tell them it was “guests only”. The 4 of them got up and walked away together, presumably to give their money to a less paranoid and pretentious establishment. Meanwhile we counted 14 members of staff around the bar with absolutely nothing to do. One having a smoke in the corner. A couple on mobile phones. You’re missing a trick here guys. It almost felt like gestapo. You should be encouraging people in and earning some money to pay all those staff you have.

Please don’t reply quoting “policy”, which I see you did in another post To me the policy doesn’t work and you need to change it. It made me feel like a criminal because I wanted to bring someone into the grounds. If I had known this beforehand I would not have booked the hotel.

The room was spacious. It was clean and apart from the badly repaired cover on the bed it was a nice space, if a little sterile.

I’ve stayed in hotels, hostels and guest houses all over the world. It’s hard to define what gives a place a life and soul. For me this place didn’t do it I’m afraid. The price tag is silly for what is presented

My best friend and I traveled throughout Brazil for three weeks this past August, and Jericoacoara was the final stop of our trip. After two weeks staying at hostels and airbnbs we decided to splurge on a hotel in Jeri. We found a good rate on Expedia and booked six nights at Essenza; I'm happy to say it was worth every dollar spent. The accommodations are resort-like, but it's a small enough hotel that the experience feels much more personal than it would at a larger resort. The staff was, without exception, incredibly friendly, eager to help, and keen to share their love of Jeri with us. Nadia made us feel so welcome on the first day, Kayo continued to check in on us daily and to make sure we were enjoying our stay, and Almir consistently went above and beyond getting us high-quality restaurant recommendations. All in all we felt very well taken care of.

Our days started with an amazing breakfast offering a wide variety of options including omelettes, tapiocas, crepes, breads, fruit, fresh juice and more. (Shout out to our breakfast buddy Matheus, and also the other waiter whose name we never got.) If you're a late-riser, don't worry because breakfast goes until noon. The meal was made even more wonderful by the fact that the tables are situated to overlook the pristine beach. Then in the afternoon, after spending the day at the beach or on a dune buggy passeio, we'd head back to the pool to watch the sunset while sipping on frozen caipiroskas from the swim-up bar. (Side note: Jeri sunsets are easily in the top five best sunsets of my life.) Since the pool wasn't heated it did get a little chilly as soon as the sun went down There was no loud music or DJ like other reviews note--on the contrary, the playlist was mostly great classic Brazilian music like Tim Maia and Marisa Monte, with some random John Mayer hits thrown into the mix. Every night someone walked around a little basket of brigadeiro to each room for a pre-dinner treat. (Yes, you read that right, free brigadeiro delivered to your room nightly!) The only slight complaint we had was that the wi-fi was spotty and pretty slow.

So, long story short: If you're feeling like treating yourself, Essenza is worth the money.

Tip: The 2nd floor rooms with private pool balconies look cool on Instagram, but we ended up very glad that we booked a first floor room. The first floor rooms have private decks from which you can walk right into the pool. The 2nd floor rooms don't have decks, the door opens straight into the balcony-pool, which has glass siding that allows everyone in the restaurant/pool/beach to see right into your "private" pool.

We feel that this was one of the most fun hotels we have ever stayed in. We made ourselves at home in the safe, comfortable and exclusive environment for 10 days. The sunsets were always of interest and the 5 - 7 course dinners by the sea were extremely special. We chose the 5 course dinner 3 times and each time it was a culinary delight. Hats off to the chef. If you are looking for more local flavor just talk to any of the friendly staff. Flavia, Fransisco, kitchen staff, maids, yard and pool guys, security everyone were extremely helpful and friendly. I will always remember that part of our trip. Obrigada to the Beautiful people of Brazil.

Don’t be fooled by their social media presence and their Pinterest pins, this place has not aged gracefully and needs remodeling ASAP. Their rooms are poorly lit and not cleaned properly, I stepped on a rug that had broken glass on it. Worst part was that the day I ate there not once but twice, I got the worst food poisoning of my life.
