This beautiful hotel is located in the National Park with a view of Iguazu Falls. Service at the front desk, in the room and at restaurants was top notch. Our room attendant tidied the cords for our tablets and the curling iron by tying them with pink satin ribbons. Fresh chocolate candies were available at the front desk each day and also placed on our nightstand at night. Our last day we took a river boat ride in pouring rain and we got soaked. You can have your clothes dried (generally for a fee). What a great service! The only complaint we have is that food service in the bar is VERY slow. We ate at the bar one night and seemed to wait 30+ minutes for the food to arrive. The next day we had a late lunch in the same location before our group was scheduled to depart. We both ordered hamburgers well done. After a 30 minute wait, both burgers came out medium rare. My husband ate his because he didn't want to wait for it to be remade, but I sent mine back because I couldn't eat the rare meat. I was shocked that it took another 25+ minutes for the remade burger to arrive, and that was after complaints to the waiter. It is my experience when food is sent back, a rush is put on the order since you already waited once for your meal. My burger apparently was put in the normal cue as we saw another guest get a hamburger while I was still waiting for mine to be remade. The bar manager comped our food, which was an appropriate gesture. The buffets (breakfast, lunch or dinner) were great with many selections. It was located right next to the beautiful pool and garden area, so we enjoyed breakfast on the patio overlooking the pool.

It’s all about the location.
Iguazu is amazing but what is not amazing are the thousands of tourists everywhere that block you from enjoying the falls in peace.

Staying in the Belmond, which is inside the Brazilian side of the falls, means that you have the falls to yourself before the public rushes in at 9am onwards.

This makes it all worthwhile - cost and all. I considered the similar Grand Melia hôtel on the Argentinian side but to be honest, seeing it from this side is way better so it was a good choice to choose the Belmond.

The hotel itself is lovely with a Portuguese heritage and a very nice Brazilian warm hospitality wherever you are.

The bar and bar staff are outstanding as are the restaurants. Yes it is expensive, but given the unique location, they could charge more and would do so elsewhere.

My only gripe is around the terrible wifi throughout the hotel which makes doing the odd email very difficult.

Also they try to rope you into hotel transfers to the airport - skip that and take a taxi as it is 1/3 of the price.

A very memorable place to stay.

We stayed at this Belmond hotel during five days prior to Christmas. Four outstanding features of the hotel made our visit a very memorable and positive experience; location, quality feel of the property itself, the attitude and capability of the staff, the pool and spa facilities.
The Hotel with its Portuguese colonial architecture is uniquely situated within the Iguaçu National Park, a popular and busy tourist attraction which closes to the public at 6pm so hotel guests are uniquely privileged to remain in the park after other visitors have left.
The hotel arrival transfer from the surprisingly efficient airport (currently under refurbishment) was a nature tour, our driver spoke good English and during the steady 40km per hour journey through the park narrated upon the wildlife, geology and history of the area. The welcome was impressive.
After our first night we benefited from an upgrade to the Cataratas Suite, where the view from our bedroom terrace was directly to the falls, drifting to sleep with the sound of the river cascading over the spectacular falls is one special memory. I would recommend visitors choose upper level floors if available. The moonlight walk arranged by the hotel to experience the night-time rainbow created by the full moon over the falls was a natural phenomenon that we will unlikely replicate. The excursion was professionally and safely conducted by our guide, we were all given torches and good care was taken for safety. The concierge offers a good range of excursions include the “wet ride” boat directly under the falls – a not to be missed adventure!
We were slightly disappointed to find the hotel’s fine dining restaurant closed due to a private function during the second night of our stay. However, the concierge arranged for us to eat at Trattoria Bona (separately reviewed) in the nearby town which proved to be as good as many of our favourite Italian restaurants.
The hotel staff, many of which are local to the area have a great attitude and displayed a cooperation and willingness to meet all our needs. The property had been tastefully embellished with Christmas festive decoration; a restored classic Volkswagen Caravette driven by Mr & Mrs Santa Klaus featured in the garden reminded my wife of her own early years travel expeditions!
The pool area is a very extensive and well-run feature. Staff circulate refreshing tropical fruit sticks at frequent intervals, and I enjoyed one of the best Amazonica gin and tonics with a Cuban cigar on the poolside terrace with a giant but friendly Iguana wandering at my feet.
Our three-week Sth American tour was our first experience of Belmond’s hospitality offering. We are frequent guests at Four Seasons, Aman, Starwood Luxury and Mandarin Oriental – but Belmond will now and in the future be amongst our list of luxury destinations. Bravo!

Uniquely enchanting and nestled inside the Falls park, this hotel is the best way to enjoy Iguazu Falls. We spent 4 nights here in November of 2019, and found the hotel to be pristine, well appointed, and simply gorgeous inside and out. The wildlife is abundant and the staff is as warm as the Brazilian people tend to be. Our daughter particularly enjoyed watching the local Toucan getting into mischief with the other birds on the hotel grounds.

in the morning we would have breakfast and be at the Falls before the throngs of tourists showed up. We'd complete the hike in solitude, something we did several times during our visit. The bus journey to the Argentinian side was arranged by the concierge, who found us a wonderful driver whose services we used throughout the entire trip. Do not miss the bird park right outside. It's wonderful.

If we could change one thing about the Hotel, we'd say that Dinner in the hotel starts far too late for us Americans. You cannot get dinner until 7PM and we were early risers for the Falls. That being said, the food is great. You'll enjoy the churrasco dinner buffet. We did it....too much...

If I were to offer one piece of advice for anyone journeying here: When you arrive, consider taking an Uber into town to a supermarket. Stock up on a few gallons of water. Water isn't really abundant at the hotel. You get a few very small bottles in your fridge restocked daily, however it isn't enough, especially with the hiking, and additional waters were expensive and not easy to come by.

The experience will be unforgettable. We used our credit card points for the stay and with the exchange rate in Brazil, this was a no brainer.

Dear adamsadams, Thank you very much for taking the time to review our hotel - It is wonderful to see that even after a couple of months, the memories are still present and live on. When the time comes, we hope to be able to welcome you back for another relaxing escape along with your family. Next to the toucans, there is a lot of wildlife to be discovered: coatis, monkeys, tapirs, parrots, lizards and, of course, the jaguars. Plus, the panorama of the falls is ever-changing: the quantity of water, the color of the water, the colors of the sky and the surrounding nature - In short: A view that one never grows tired off. :-) With warm regards from all of us at Belmond Hotel das Cataratas, Andrea Emmerling General Manager

This hotel will definitely have special place on our memories among others favourite hotels (such as bvlgari in bali, burgenstock in Switzerland and peninsula in paris).

Hotel is stunning in every detail and of course its location inside the park. This allows visitors to have walk without millions of other tourists before the park opens or after it closes.

Food is great in both restaurants and surprisingly in room service.

We had one of two room with small private swimming pool and it was a very good choice! May be small tip to do the wooden wall between those two rooms less transparent.

Personnel made our stay more colourful. Helpful, efficient, suggestive and friendly. Perfectly corresponding to the level of the hotel.

Among activities (partially organised with the help of concierge who did the great job during our stay) we did macuco safari (to see falls from water and when boat brings you under the small fall) in private only for 2 of us (price will be about 2200 brl fpr the boat), helicopter 10 min flight over the falls (something around 500$ per helicopter not per person), parachute jump (500 $ per two), visited argentinian side (provate driver for the day was about 600 brl). Argentina has falls but actually its more impressive to see it from brasilian side if you are time concerned. Also heli in rio is a must but heli here was ok but macuco safari gives more memories.

Thank you again for this incredible stay

The hotel is what I would call "old colonial " style which is spacious , low-rise, stylish, lovely rooms and attractive gardens and exteriors. The room was very comfortable, clean and with a lovely view over the Falls.
Staff were helpful, courteous and attentive. Check-in and -out was efficient and easy
Breakfast was very tasty with a wide selection range in pleasant surroundings.
We had dinner one night in the grill room. It was quite expensive but a great selection of delicious foods, eat all you want buffet and lovely wines.
We would liked to have stayed there longer.

Dear David H, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us. Our hotel whose construction started in the 30s (inauguration in 1958) was indeed built in Portuguese Colonial style to which we also owe our incomparable pink colour. I'm very happy to read that you have enjoyed our facilities and services. Every Saturday, we are hosting a delicious and authentic Brazilian Feijoada buffet in our Ipe Grill, accompanied by live music - Something worthwhile to come back for (and stay longer this time :-)). Belmond Hotel das Cataratas is the only hotel situated in the Iguacu National Park. Because of its unique and prime location, the hotel offers its quests a unique experience by having exclusive access to the trails and enjoying the spectacular Iguacu Falls from 7 am to 9 am.

Staying at the luxury Belmond is worth every penny and it was chosen by Forbes Travel Guide as one of the finest properties in the world.

The staff at Belmond hotel is very helpful. And I would very much like to thank Belmond’s recently appointed general manager Ms Andrea Emmerling for her professionalism. She was very kind to reply to my email promptly although she was on business travels. This small example simply shows how dedicated she is to her job. I am also in the hospitality industry and I know how some top managers act when they are away from office and Ms Emmerling is different from most of the general managers I have got to know in this industry. Belmond’s staff also speak highly of Ms Emmerling.

Dear TrueHotelier1, Thank you very much for your kind review - I'm glad to hear that you have thoroughly enjoyed your stay with us and hope to be able to welcome you back next year along with your family. April or May would be the perfect months for a trip: The weather is pleasant, humidity not as high and as it will be the start of the shoulder season, the park will have less visitors during this period already. See you next year - Very much looking forward to meeting you in person, Best, Andrea Emmerling General Manager

We are absolutely charmed with the hotel. Everything is perfect, one of the highlights is the location that is 1.4 km away to the falls through a beautiful trail. It is amazing that the guests have access to the falls before and after hours, and the best is to go on Mondays when it is closed all day to general public. We had the whole trail and the falls only to our family on Monday morning, as we did not see anyone at all. It was the best part of our trip :) another highlight is the staff, they offer one of the best services in the world. The restaurants in the hotel are great and the staff was very attentive to our son’s food allergy. The room was great with a balcony overlooking the forest. They offer bikes for the guests to wander around the park, as a suggestion to get to perfection, maybe offering bikes with child seats besides ones for adults. We consider this one of the best hotels we have ever stayed at and we highly recommend it.

It is more expensive then I would typically pay for a hotel but if you can afford it you are getting something for the extra money. Besides for the hotel itself which is old style elegance, the fact that you have the waterfalls to yourself before and after the park opens is amazing. They give a lovely free breakfast. You also don't have to bring your own ponchos as they do give you ponchos if you ask. The only thing that wasn't so convenient is that you must take a shuttle to the start of the park before you can go anywhere and that take 15 minutes. So if you are leaving the grounds a lot you have to factor in the extra time coming and going.

If you are looking to travel on a budget, this is not your place, but if you want unlimited access to the Brazilian side of the falls before/after hours, this is the place for you. As a guest you are able to explore the trail before and after all the other tourists are gone for the day which allows you to have stunning photos with little to no crowds.

If that does not entice you to spend a night or a few nights at the park, the hotel itself has an old charm of the 30's (given it was not completed till the 60's) and is well decorated and maintained.

The staff was amazing in not only keeping the property well maintained and clean, the rooms were just as well maintained and cleaned. This also is true for the mini wait area at the front of the park. You must "check in" at the gate as they ensure you are a guest that will be staying with them.

What I did not expect was the nightly turn down service we received for the 2 nights we were there. I only have experienced turn down at the JW and at the Fairmont. The turn down service included two bottle of water and some Brazilian sweets, which were really good.

Another nice thing about the hotel, we were provided with complimentary haviannas flip flops.

The only complain I have is the shuttles. The shuttles runs every 20 minutes between the hotel and the park gate. I wish I knew this before hand so I could have timed our arrival better. We just missed a shuttle by a few minutes late in the evening.

Dear FrozenDiver, Happy new year and thank you for taking the time to review our hotel in such great detail - Immensely appreciated. I'm especially pleased that you have enjoyed the services and little touches that our Housekeeping team provides, such as the complimentary flip flops upon arrival as well as the daily turndown service including a Brazilian treat. I'm sorry to hear that you incurred the maximum waiting time for our shuttle upon arrival. I can see how frustrating that must have been, especially when arriving late in the evening. To keep the disturbance to the wildlife that is occupying the Iguassu National Park to a minimum, vehicle presence is very restricted. We do mention it in our reservation confirmations. If you do have a suggestion how to communicate more effectively, please feel free to share with me at andrea.emmerling@belmond.com With warm regards, Andrea Emmerling General Manager

That’s what we did…it is super easy, just takes a bit of time. We did it multiple times to see the falls on the Argentine side. The driver will bring your passports into the crossing office or you may need to walk in yourself but it’s easy. You do need to allow probably at least an hour to the airport, but the process is simple.
