Ilha Grande is a very special place. And what made our time there even more memorable was the guest house that my partner booked for us. Gerard, the owner of the place is a sweet man. His team of helpers are lovely too. The breakfast was over the top amazing!! A fruit salad like I have never eaten before! Home made cheese balls, delicious morning cake, freshly squeezed juice, buns, cheese, tapioca 'wrap' (we would put scrambled eggs and tomato in ours) ... and so on! As you can see we love food and a good breakfast is key to lots of energy for our hikes to various amazing beaches. The rooms are clean and quite peaceful. We stayed 4 nights overlooking the beach and the last 5 nights in the upper back room (very spacious). We initially booked for 3 nights. A hammock and mini fridge for each room. We highly recommend staying at Gerard's pousada!

...for our stay anyway. Why? Positive points for: - location -> right on the beach, just outside the busy/loud zone - breakfast was "decent'; enough to fuel you up for the day Loses points for: - feeling a little "stingy"; it kind of felt like I was visiting my fairly conservative aunt's house, always having to watch what I was doing/saying/etc. - we were in a back room that smelled very musty and had signs of mold/mildew Call it a 3.8 and stay here if you're a tolerable person who just wants a couple of quick days on Grande and won't be hanging out in your room too much.

This is not a needed review: Manaca is the very best posada you could find, and not only in Ilha Grande. Gerard the owner is always ready to help, the staff is fantastic and the staying is an extension to ones home comfort. And to add, Manaca gather interesting people, there is always a glass of wine shared with someone you have the pleasure to know.

I have n’t enough nice things about this place. I spent 3 nights there in early September. Gerard the host together with his staff could not do enough to make out trip pleasant. The breakfast was the nicest I got anywhere in Brazil. The hammock on my balcony together with the sound of the sea made my stay a very happy one . I relaxed there when I was not exploring other beautiful locations on Ihla Grande. Truly amazing. For me the best meal I had was the bbq on the beech.

We spent a few nights here, hosted by Gerard. He provided good advice on restaurants (Lua y Mar and Sorrentinas were the best). He is also helpful on boat services and his advice is accompanied by a nice sense of humour. Our room, upstairs, overlooked the beach but the view is obsecured by trees. The balcony has a large hammock but there is no room for chairs or a small table as a result. We think that this would be a better option for enjoying the evening sun. Whilst the hammock can accommodate two (very) slim people this is not a very comfortable ride! The staff, although they have hardly any english, were very friendly and helpful. Breakfasts were OK. Ilha Grande is, we feel, over-rated and the focus is on backpackers if you stay in town. Lopez Mendez beach is wonderful on a sunny day but, after that, there’s not much to keep you here for more than two or three nights. Pousada Manaca is a good choice compared with others that we saw and is at the quieter end of the town. However there is a noisy club which operates most nights of the week and it’s not far away! Bring ear plugs. Wi-fi is generally poor at Manaca but that’s probably true all over the island. Overall a good choice when visiting Ilha Grande.

We spent three nights at this Pousada and really enjoyed it. Gerard the owner was a great host and very helpful. We had a room overlooking the sea with a balcony and hammock. At night you can hear the waves from the room. There is a delicious breakfast with fresh juice each day. Gerard challenged us to guess all 5 fruits in the juice but we failed. Rooms are simple but very clean and comfortable. The walls are covered with photos and objects from the indigenous people that Gerard has collected. The pousada is at the quieter end of the beach with 2 great restaurants next door. 3 days wasn’t enough to spend here - stay for a week at least!

What an amazing little place. In a quiet location next to a lovely restaurant on the beach. Super friendly and helpful host who gave us lots of advice. The best thing had to be falling asleep with the sound of the sea whether at night or during an afternoon nap on the hammock. Go, but be careful you may not want to leave!

My boyfriend and I loved this place! The breakfast is excellent, the most natural and homemade you can get, it was delicious! The location is excellent, you can walk to the best bars, restaurants and its super quiet at night, we got the sea view room and we can hear the sound of the waves at night. No complaints about the room and the views of the beach were beautiful. The owner Gerar is a wonderful man. I forgot my necklace in the room and he was so kind to give it back to me all the way in Rio de Janeiro. We are forever grateful to him! I highly recommend!

Gerard is an awesome host, with simple yet charming and rustic lodging, trees inside the garden, just seven rooms, so quiet, many international visitors, in front of Canto Beach, good price, top breakfast and nice cat. Wonderful stay.
