My story awaits your story Hello! I am a historic house. As historic as the cobbled streets that surround me. I am from the 18th century, but I have the comfort of the 21st century. In the pictures, you see me as I am. I keep my form preserved. Therefore, I am registered by the National Historical Heritage. My doors and windows have seen great stories come through here. The next one may be yours. My street is the Matriz, one of the most famous in Paraty. My style is French and English. It is on every piece of furniture, from the entrance to your room. You can connect with the world through my wi-fi and with the city through my windows and balconies. I'm calm. You hear the story even in the silence. In two steps, put your foot in the story that passes my door. And in 5 minutes, step on the sand of the beach. I'm the Pousada Arte Colonial. But you can call me your home in Paraty.

The Pousada Arte Colonial is a 10minute stroll from the bus station [Terminal Rodoviário de Paraty], situated in a beautiful 18th century townhouse in the historic centre of Paraty. The pousada oozes charm and character. It is furnished throughout with lovely period furniture, and is extremely comfortable and charming. We were welcomed and checked-in by the wonderfully friendly and helpful Aline. She showed us to our room [Light Suite] with its own staircase. The room and bathroom were comfortable and clean, and included a ceiling fan and air con. The pool/garden area, whilst small, is a perfect spot to relax. The plentiful breakfast was served by Andrei, who was most friendly and kind. The pousada has free, reliable Wi-Fi throughout the property. If you're looking for a charming, period pousada in the heart of historic Paraty, it'd be hard to find one better than the Pousada Arte Colonial. Highly recommended.

The room we booked, the Suite Classic, is large, overlooks the street and has two windows with small balcony. The room was advertised as having a double bed but we were pleasantly surprised that it was actually larger (it has a queen size bed). It was very hot in Paraty but the room is equipped with a ceiling fan and air conditioning unit so we were comfortable. The bathroom is small and you cannot flush the toilet paper but this is common in inns we've stayed in Mexico, France, and Spain so we were not bothered by this. We really liked the room. The breakfast was great too. Lots of selection. Freshly squeezed orange juice, great tasting coffee, lots of fruit, breads, cheese, cold cuts, baked goods, cereal, two types of yogurt, sausage, and if you want eggs, you can ask and the cook will make some for you. The pousada is located 1 block from the Santa Rita Church and where you can hire a boat to take you on a cruise. It is in the historic centre so there are many restaurants and shops near it. We had an excellent experience.

Excellent location, don’t come with heavy luggage, you have to park outside of the historic district. Bring your camera. Beautiful colonial buildings. Walk around the harbor and visit the old churches

15 years ago, I started going to Paraty and for about 5 years I went back at least once a year. Then I always stayed at the Arte Colonial if I could. It was so popular that it was often hard to get a reservation. I had not been back to Paraty in a decade but went over Christmas 2018. How times have changed. This place has become very run down. For the prices they charge it is shockingly badly managed. The rooms are dingy. One of my lamps was broken and never fixed despite my asking. One of our showers was broken and they acknowledged the fixture was old. It took a day to fix. The sheets and towels are of the poorest quality and were probably being used when I was last there in 2008. The breakfast could not be more ordinary-thousands of roadside hotels in Brazil do better. This all might be ok if the service was good. I wanted a historical tour and asked Renan, the desk manager, if he knew of one. "No" he said - not "no, but let me see." We asked to change one of our rooms and Renan said he would get back to me. He never did. Etc etc. This is not a place focusing on its guests. Paraty has become much fancier since I was last there and Arte Colonial needs to improve its game. There was one saving grace: Julio, another desk clerk, could not have been nicer and was very attentive.

My wife and I recently travelled to Paraty, and stayed at the Pousada Arte Colonial. We were very well received, and travelled with our two pets to the B&B. The receptionist, Rafael, was particularly friendly and helped us with advice with what to see in Paraty! We had an excellent time, and also were lucky to enjoy the Cachaça Festival whilst we were there.

This hotel is in an ideal location in the historic heart of the old town (note, two blocks from where taxis can drop you off), but infinitely better than other locations. The best part was the old style of the house and the thoughtful breakfast which was one of the better ones that we had in Brazil. Marmosets paid a visit too. The check-in went smoothly with lots of recommendations--we ate at all four restaurant recommendations with absolutely the best experiences. For a family there is a back area with a large loft that suited us quite well. Very quiet and nice style. We were thrilled. But there were some mosquitos (it was very rainy) and the door did stick. Overall, we really enjoyed this hotel.

Good location in the historic center, quiet street just 2 blocks from the action. But the room I stayed with my wife was dirty, as well as the poor quality sheets of the deformed bed. The worst was the bathroom, well below minimum space standards. Varanda doors were stucking as well its Windows. TV had a 60s low reception image and extremely low volume. Breakfast was regular. Definetely I´ll never goback to this "pousada".

This is a nice little place in the centre of the old town. It's full of character and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The collective age of the bed, wardrobe and other items in our room must have been in the thousands of years. A good base to explore the area.

We stayed three nights here. It is located bang in the middle of the old part of town - we would seriously suggest you are better staying at a much cheaper place on the main road coming into the old part, or even along to the beach on the left of Paray. This pousada was not cheap, and you will be walking into this part of town so much during your stay anyway, there is no need to be so central. We were given a room on the ground floor with a door off the main passage leading to the swimming pond. It was obviously an addition to the main house. It was one of the worst rooms we have ever had - rubbish furniture, sloping awkward ceilings, appalling bed, rickety shelves for a wardrobe/chest of drawers, mouldy dirty finishings, nasty little bathroom, window we couldn't open because of privacy/security, very little usable space. We protested and were immediately moved to a much nicer room upstairs in the main house - this time with old wooden furniture and a nice window. Breakfast was only adequate. We came down when it opened, but bread only arrived 3/4 hour later. Oh - and the swimming pond. Filthy. Tiny. Small. Sitting area with dirty seats and tiles and mouldy umbrella. Only saving grace were some orchids in the tatty trees, and a humming-bird!
