I am a repeat customer from Los Angeles, USA & have stayed solo, with a friend & group of friends at Terrasse Hostel & would highly recommend this hostel for budget conscious/smart travelers mainly because of the following; 1. it's just a couple of blocks (less than 5 minutes walk) to the main Metro train station, shops, Ipanema beach &...

We stayed here for one week. They said the breakfast is served 7-10, but actually they make it on-demand. So when we went downstairs at 8.30am we were told someone is "just slicing the cheese" when in fact they arrived some time later with shopping bags in hand with ready-sliced processed cheese and ham. Don't expect a buffet-style-help yourself-when-you-want breakfast....

i stayed at this hostel 5 years ago. now the rooms have changed, from big shared rooms to tiny rooms. however, this has not been told to the authorities. this is illegal. also, this is unsafe because the rooms are not prepared for dangers like fires for example. me quede en este hostal hace 5 años. ahora los cuartos han...

I spent 2 nights there with a friend during the world cup. Location is excellent, near the beach and center. Staff was helpful, rooms were comfortable and clean. Price was quite good considering we were during World Cup.

I stayed one night at the Terrasse Hostel and really enjoyed the location close to the probably best beach of Rio de Janeiro, close to lot's of good restaurants and close to the language school. Also the staff was super-friendly and helped me with all questions and problems I had. However, I payed 75 Reals for a weekday night in...

Loved my stay here during Carnival. Great location one street back from the beach and a short walk to bus and metro stops. Ipanema had some great blocos and was great having a central place to come back to. Staff were really friendly and helpful, helping me set up my sim card and plan the next stages of my trip....

Terrasse hostel has a great location: one block to the beach on the street full of coffees, bar and restaurants. We had a huge room on the top floor, it was nice and clean with lot of space. But all other rooms, toilets and staircase are really tiny in this hostel. Hostel provides bed sheets but not towels. Facilities are...

As far as hostels go, this is a really great place to stay. It is central to all essential locations; beach, restaurants and cafes, shops. The rooms are your average bunks, you get clean sheets. Towels are unfortunately not included, so you have to bring your own. The hostel serves a basic breakfast of bread rolls, ham, cheese, fruit salad,...

I think you have to realize first that this is Rio, not a small downtown village. Space is expensive, so don't complain don't don't have much space, because it's just that way in Rio. Have to say that I felt really welcome here. Every question I had they tried to help me with (however stupid they were sometimes), the breakfast...

Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. “During Carnival never stay there, except if you do not intend to sleep at night, but during the morning. There´s no stove in the kitchen, so it´s impossible to cook. Fan in the bedroom for couple definitely doesn´t refresh enough in summer. Its bathroom is extremely tight. Staff is polite and Ms. Rosa is extremely kind and helpful. The best location in Rio. So check your priorities and make your choice!”
