Do not go. A dormitory with really old mattresses, broken windows resulting in a mosquitos invasion all night long, air conditioner noisy like a truck engine, and finally really expensive. The day after we found a good private room for 2 at a cheaper price.

At overnativa hostel, I got what I paid for. I paid only $25BR per night for a 6 bed dorm. It is do-able but I think If I came to the island again I would pay a little more and go elsewhere. On the first night the bed I slept in was itchy. I'm not sure if it was the...

SO overpriced. The rooms were tiny and dark. The shower was GROSS - it flooded the entire bathroom. The staff weren't that friendly and wouldn't even spare me some oil for cooking! The communal space wasn't great - not clean, weird layout. Wouldn't recommend - stay at Hi Holandes instead!

Staff impolite, not sure which beds in the room available meaning we couldn't unpack, mattresses heavily stained and all of ours ripped at the seams, outside kitchen area full of cockroaches and a couple of mice, our bedroom on ground floor so right next to these pests! Hole smashed into our window, no offer of moving our room when we...

Have had a great time here after Carnival in Rio. The owners have tried to adjust their Google Maps pin but with no joy at the moment. If you get dropped off at the main Pier go straight forward to the main road. Turn LEFT and follow the road about 300 metres. The hostel is on your left behind a...

I would not recommend staying here unless you don't mind the possibility of waking up with bug bites and you don't mind sleeping without sheets. We paid a little less than what was being charged for nice, clean pousadas (bed and breakfasts) to stay in our own room here. After the first night we woke up with bites and there...

For the price you pay (around $15 each) this place cant be beat. You get a private room with two beds, bathroom, aircon, fridge, tv (only has one channel) and very slow wifi. It's in a pretty good location only a few mins walk to main area of town. Breakfast is good and is buffet style - cereal, breads, fruit,...

We struggled to find accom on Ilhe Grande as it was so close to Easter, but managed to get a double room here. The room was quite basic, but had air con and was clean, if a little tired and old. Breakfast was ok, plenty of it and Christina who runs it was pretty helpful. The location is not too...

Staying in Botafogo

Neighbourhood Profile
Botafogo
In recent years, Botafogo has become one of the hottest neighbourhoods in Rio. It hosts many modern restaurants with contemporary food and many venues to listen to rock and electronic music. Its numerous bars and pubs make this area a great choice for anyone interested in a great nightlife experience - in fact, some bars in the area are open all night. Casa Daros, an art museum that showcases amazing artists from Latin America, is a must see located in a historical building in Botafogo.
