Best location by far, funny atmosphere with foreigners/partiers, dirty place in general but thats what you paid for. Walking distance for everything, memorable, worthwhile. To get to the airport from here ( either of them) you just walk to the beach and wait for a bus- wave it down, as there are no real stops here. If you take a... More

Stayed here for about two nights. The rooms are a bit moldy, the water is cold, the kitchen is impossible to cook in and it's dirty. BUT I promise you this: If you want to meet up with som cool people, have the best location in all of Rio this is the place! I still have contact with some of... More

Piratas is an experience that's for sure, the staff are great and both Freddie and Brian are very helpful on all things Rio. The location is awesome and by far the main attraction, 3 min walk to Ipanema and 5 min to Copacabana is hard to beat. Everything else is very basic but you're not paying for comfort. Had a... More

A unique hostel, you either love it or hate it ;-), if you are chilled, like meeting people, love to party and want to be right next to Ipanema beach then you'll love it!! A friend recommended this hostel so as soon as I got off the plane in Rio, Piratas was my first stop. I was only planning on... More

30 seconds away from the beautiful Ipanema beach, and much cheaper than the majority of Rio hostels (we were also offered better rate after 1st few nights) but don't expect much... The dirtiest hostel I've ever seen with nothing more than a couple of pans to cook with, holes in the scaffolding stairs, a bathroom falling apart, beds missing most... More

Ok so Piratas isnt the cleanest hostel we've stayed in though the new girls dorm is fine, there is a big mirror and new mattresses (so no bed bugs) The place could do with a good scrub, a lick of paint and an overall tidying up but because it doesn't have this it's really cheap and actually it's the most... This place is defenetly not for those ones who want a fancy place to stay. But for people who only want a roof on the head for a low cost and take the maximum of the Copacabana and Ipanema beach, this is probably the best location you can get. If You have a pirate spirit, this is THE place to... More
