Hotel Monte Castello Rua Cândido Mendes 201 in Rio de Janeiro Hotel is not reliable. I first booked for a standard room a year in advance (no air conditioning ). I then cancelled that reservation when I discovered the temperature in Rio in February were often above 35ºC and made a new reservation for an air conditioned room. After a...

This is a nice shot in a city where every hotel is expensive. If you're looking for a cheap and good hotel, try it. The hotel is close of all Rio de Janeiro attractions (Corcovado, Pão de Açúcar, Copacabana beach, city center). It's small but clean and efficient accommodation for solo travelers and young couples. Taxi on the door, few...

This hotel is a few blocks from the Gloria Metro Station. It is a basic hotel, with small, air-conditioned rooms, cable tv and breakfast. The bathroom is very small and this isn't the type of room you would want to spend the day in. However, it is comfortable, clean and convenient. There is no elevator, so if you can't deal...

The hotel has a very nice position, in the hearth of Rio, walking distance from the traditional Lapa and its nice bars and also more exclusive Flamengo. Very close to the airport. Rooms are good sized, most of them internal but with a window to the patio, a/c or fan. If you're stayng for a few nights, this is a...

We had a trouble free stay, staff excellent all English speakers, friendly and helpful. Gave us advice when we asked. Stayed in basement room with windows into corridor, was very basic but beds were clean and comfortable. Tv, fridge, excellent shower, excellent free wifi, breakfast was basic but enough. Excellent location, ATM around corner at Gloria Metro, nice locals bar...

In a micro-neighborhood of Flamengo is typical Rio with Int'l. travellers too; next to Swiss consulate and a bit noisy; near/2 blocks from Metro Gloria & 15min. walk from LAPA; very minimal rooms w/ breakfast; relatively affordable for the 'new' Rio. Room 401 will give you a show of Rio's daily routines. Near area Catete/15 by foot with Presidential Palace...

This is a very basic budget hotel. We had a tiny bathroom. Make sure you get a room with air conditioning. We only had a fan. The staff speak English and are very friendly and helpful The location is convenient, near a beach and Gloria metro station. A good buffet breakfast.

My third Rio hotel and all turned out mediocre. This hotel charges around 75 euro per night (!), and what you get is a something like a mix between a cellar and a birdcage....and do keep in mind that breakfast is finished at 9!! If you want an evening out (what else would you wanna do in Rio) forget about...

I found the Hotel Monte Castelo to be very close to what I expected, given the earlier reviews here. Some obvious positives: The price was very competitive for Rio. The location (a long block uphill) from the Gloria metro stop made getting around easy. The wifi in the hotel was excellent - strong signal and no drops. The shower was...
