Each time I get to come to Rio I want to stay at Guesthouse Bianca! I have stayed at this place multiple times...and it just keeps getting better and better! The house is an incredible 1940's mansion in the heart of the Santa Teresa neighborhood. Since I've last visited, the garden has become more lush AND the room I stayed...

Thank you Guido! We have loved every minute of our stay. We where 3 friends sharing the blue mango tree room. And when 2 left I stayed another 2 nights alone. I just couldn't leave this sanctuary of peace and charm. The house is so delicately decorated. All details from flowers in the bathroom to the garnish at breakfast are...

We had no idea where to stay, but found this place online and took a chance as the pics looked great. It turned out to be the perfect introduction to Rio. The neighborhood is calm, quiet and chilled and the house is cool, airy and comfortable with beautiful architectural details. It was a joy to wake up and hear the...

My husband and I stayed here for our 10th anniversary last year. We stayed for a week in the Sugarloaf room- amazing view and the pictures were true to the experience. Guido and Francisco were welcoming and informative. We had tasty breakfasts each morning with the amazing fried tapioca cheese balls - and our friend Lou, the cat! We watched...

Everything about this guesthouse is perfect. The hosts are kind and accommodating. The neighborhood is historical, local and far away from the terribly modern high rise neighborhoods closer to the beaches. American guidebooks focus on the dangers of Rio, and there is nothing alarming about Santa Teresa. Santa Teresa serves up delicious food and has great bars and street music....

My mom and I stayed at this lovely Guesthouse for 4 days midweek in March 2016 in the Sugarloaf room. We had a wonderful experience from the start to the finish. Easy to book online, pictures are true to reality (though better in real life!) and Guido responded promptly to my email with questions about taxis, etc. The Guesthouse is...

We stayed at the guesthouse for three nights and it was the perfect stay. The rooms were really nice and cleaned daily. Breakfast was really nice. The villa is amazing. The location is great. It's a ten minute walk to all the cool bars in Lapa.

We stayed 3 nights in this cosy and comfortable guesthouse. Guido, our host, was very helpful and spoke excellent English. The location was very convenient - close to Gloria metro station. The house is quite large and we had excellent views of the city of Rio. We highly reccomend this guesthouse.

What a lovely place! We'd booked the Sugarloaf room (only available through their website), and it's the best, as it has a little balcony looking directly out on to Pao de Azcuar mountain, with a great sunrise with spectacular colours (listen out for the chichiwee birds!) The hosts are so, so kind, and really made the stay special. Only drawbacks,...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Guesthouse Bianca is one of the only places in all of Rio de Janeiro from which you can enjoy a true bohemian neighborhood, the chic beaches of the south, the bustling city center, the infamous viewpoints, and the non stop nightlife - all from the luxury of a private home surrounded by a tropical garden.  The newly renovated home was built in 1932 and is located on a quiet residential street in the heart of Santa Teresa, considered by many to be the most charming cultural and historical neighborhood in all of Rio.  Guests are only a 5 minute walk to countless restaurants, bars, shops, bus and tram stops, and just a 10 minute walk to Rio's ever expanding metro system. The three rooms are exquisitely appointed and furnished, two of which boast stunning views of the Bay of Guanabara and Sugar Loaf.  The private guest entrance is through the lush garden, where you can find mango, coconut and goiaba trees, bromeliads, orchids, not to mention countless tropical birds and the occasional monkey. All of the rooms have elegant private bathrooms, inlaid hardwood floors, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and free wireless Internet. On the ground floor, guests have their own dining room and a self-catering kitchenette where they are welcome to prepare light meals and drinks.  Guesthouse Bianca's gracious host, Guido, is a native Cariocan and has lived in Rio all his life.  He speaks English, French and Italian and is always available to give tips on Rio, or join guests for a homemade piece of cake or a cachaca on the terrace. ... more   less
