St Teresa is in my opinion the best place to stay in Rio and the location of Pousada Bianca is no exception. Stunning views, we could see the sugar loaf mountain from our room windows! Simple rooms, some with shared bathrooms but beautifully furnished and designed. Gorgeous 1930s' house and lush garden. Fantastic breakfast with a good variety of fruit,...

We spent a weekend in Rio for a wedding in Santa Teresa and Guesthouse Bianca was the perfect place to call home for a couple days. The house is beyond gorgeous - an interior designers/architects dream. The view of the sugar loaf and city from the grounds is bar none. I can't say enough great things about this place -...

I can't say enough about the hospitality that Francisco and Guido provided us while we were on our 10th anniversary trip to Rio! The Sugar loaf room was great, specious and clean. The breakfast was tasty. I felt like we were staying in someone's home, they took great care of us. The best part was the info on the city,...

The property is really well maintained, a big, beautiful, charming house and very comfortable. Guido is just a fantastic host, and makes staying there as pleasant as possible. Location is pretty decent, probably a 10 minute downhill walk from the metro station. Breakfast is really great, the local shop does it the best, but it's also nice from the museum...

If you want to stay somewhere elegant with character, be spoil by the owners and wake up to a view of the Sugarloaf this is the place to stay in Rio! As an Australian I didn't to stay on one of the famous beaches in Rio (they are superb but then so are ours) I wanted to stay somewhere uniquely...

Guido and Francisco were fantastic hosts. Very friendly with helpful tips for our stay on where to go and restaurants to eat at. We had an early transfer on our last day and they got up early especially to make breakfast for us. On that note, the breakfasts were superb. A wide spread with fresh eggs, fruit and bread. The...

Guesthouse Bianca is a slice of heaven in Santa Teresa to be treasured. Ideally located away from the hustle & noise of the beach areas, this wonderful B&B exceeded all of our lofty expectations. Once in awhile one encounters the perfect combination of accommodation and host, or in the case of Guesthouse Bianca, hosts----Guido and Francisco. The two of us stayed at their guest house for a week of fabulous breakfasts (haven't eaten so much fruit in years) that I already miss. The price was reasonable. The location was great, up high with excellent...

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Guesthouse Bianca is one of the only places in all of Rio de Janeiro from which you can enjoy a true bohemian neighborhood, the chic beaches of the south, the bustling city center, the infamous viewpoints, and the non stop nightlife - all from the luxury of a private home surrounded by a tropical garden.  The newly renovated home was built in 1932 and is located on a quiet residential street in the heart of Santa Teresa, considered by many to be the most charming cultural and historical neighborhood in all of Rio.  Guests are only a 5 minute walk to countless restaurants, bars, shops, bus and tram stops, and just a 10 minute walk to Rio's ever expanding metro system. The three rooms are exquisitely appointed and furnished, two of which boast stunning views of the Bay of Guanabara and Sugar Loaf.  The private guest entrance is through the lush garden, where you can find mango, coconut and goiaba trees, bromeliads, orchids, not to mention countless tropical birds and the occasional monkey. All of the rooms have elegant private bathrooms, inlaid hardwood floors, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and free wireless Internet. On the ground floor, guests have their own dining room and a self-catering kitchenette where they are welcome to prepare light meals and drinks.  Guesthouse Bianca's gracious host, Guido, is a native Cariocan and has lived in Rio all his life.  He speaks English, French and Italian and is always available to give tips on Rio, or join guests for a homemade piece of cake or a cachaca on the terrace. ... more   less
