I stayed at the Hotel Atlântico Business Centro. Its central location near the underground and retail establishments is a plus. Its complimentary breakfast is both varied in selection and good tasting. The accommodations are quite basic / no frills. The front desk staff is generally unhelpful. If you need a place to sleep and enjoy breakfast in the morning, consider it an option.

I arrived on Sunday and there was absolutely nothing open anywhere around the hotel, so I had to resort to the hotel food.
The room was extremely small for the size of the bed but I managed.
The mattress was ok and I didn't have much trouble dealing with with the spaces available.
There was a buffet and, with nothing else around, I decided to go for it.
Available there was rice, beans, chicken and some beef medallions, which I chose to my regret. I had to swallow the meat pratically whole to avoid spitting it back on the plate. I lacked hydraulic jaws to be able to chew it.
Service was OK, albeit some pompous attitude by the front desk gentleman (there was he, a white man, and two black young ladies. The ladies were nicer.
Would I return? Only if circumstances demanded due to proximity to a place where I needed to conduct business, otherwise no.
The top floor, where they have a "swimming pool" (more like a 7' X 7' tank), offered an amazing view of the Sugar Loaf mountain. They also have a gym and sauna which I did not visit.
The float screen, however, had good reception and several channels, including CNN International in English.
The shower was pretty decent, but the lighting in the bathroom sucked.
Incidentally, the restaurant did not offer a la carte. Buffet ot bust.

Booked as part of our trailfinders tour of South America. Will definitely feedback to Trailfinders not to have this hotel on their books. Location is fine in terms of getting metro to more popular areas but the hotel itself is very mediocre and wouldn't score 4 stars in Europe. You wait at least 5 minutes for the whole 2 lifts that service 19 floors. The room was basic, mould on the bathroom ceiling, the loudest ancient aircom system, a view of ugly buildings. No amenities such as water without paying extra. Breakfast was basic and underwhelming. Really unimpressed.

Check in was quick and easy, but I did check in at 9pm. Room was quite small with the bed dominating it. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Towels were sometimes nice, white and fluffy: other times threadbare and grey. Key card stopped working several times. Lifts are a nightmare. 2 lifts for 19 floors. Often, especially at peak times like breakfast, only one of the lifts is turned on. This causes massive queues in both directions. Breakfast would be great if it wasn't literally the same thing every day. The best thing is the scranvked eggs. The sausages (cut up hot dogs that taste of liver in some kind of red liquid) are awful. The cheese balls when they have them are delicious. The coffee is good. I just wish they had bigger cups. The cleaning lady was very friendly. The front desk staff were either unfriendly or miserable. Check out was a nightmare as dozens of people were all trying to check out at the same time. Good location for tram, metro, Santa Teresa tram. Easy to get Ubers and taxis. Ideal if you're flying into the domestic airport, which is just around the corner (which I wasn't). Very close to Selaron steps, aqueduct and the modern cathedral.

My wife and I had a reservation for 3 nights at this horrible place.
we arrived at about 16:00 and the room was not yet ready, so we waited at the lobby for about half an hour.
When we got to the room there was an unpleasent tang all over so we asked to change rooms.
After a little persistence they actually did, but the new room had a very irritating squeaking noise from outside the window. The reception said they would send someone to fix it, naturally, they didn't.
The breakfast next morning was rather "icky" with not too clean plated and cutlery, and both my wife and I had stomachache later on that day.
I had to rearrange my agenda for the day and my wife cut her city tour because of that.

When I returned to the hotel that night, we advised the reception that we will not stay the 3rd night, because of these problems (the noise was not yet fixed as well), and they refused to cancel it without charging us.
After a lot of arguing they reconciled and said they wouldn't charge us, but to my astonishment, as I went over my credit charges - THEY DID!

Only after a letter from the legal department of my hosting company in Brazil they returned the maney.

I highly recommend anyone , businessman or "just" a tourist to keep away from this place.

First and foremost, this hotel is situated in CENTRO of Rio, so unless you have specific requirements or objectives of staying in CENTRO, AVOID IT. Location wise its horrible to stay in CBD areas- full of locals, beggars, bad people all around you.
Second, SERVICE of this hotel is a nightmare. Everything went bad with us from day 1. First of all, in CHECKIN they asked us to pay for the entire 9 days we were expected to stay. My trip was for office purpose, i was taking my wife with me as well. There was no supervisor to escalate. Customer satisfaction was something they least bothered about. Rooms are all small and shabby. AC does not work. Room Safe does not work. Repeated requests to change / repair was unheard.

Food in breakfast buffet was ok. But strange thing - if you want to eat anything special in lunch or dinner (they o nly had buffets), you only can do that in your room using room service. cannot eat at restaurant. BAR - i didn't see anything like that although it mentioned that terrace had a bAR. Don't get fooled iwth the snaps of TERRACE and the POOL. Its a big jacuzzi that they have. nothing special. STAFF - the most unpleasant and least caring in the world. And the tariff they charge - USD 180/night. Absolute robbery and they don't care also. LEARN PORTUGESE before travelling here....your room service gets delivered after 1 hour. that too cold food. TERRIBLE HOTEL.

AVOID IT....UNLESS YOU ARE FORCED TO STAY HERE BY YOUR BELOVED AND TRUSTWORTHY COMPANY.

The short story:

Don't stay here if you're on business and need reliable wifi and a comfortable room in well run hotel. This place is an utter disaster with staff (apart from one guy called Daniel) who are blase and unhelpful and seem to have a very limited grasp of customer service.

The long story:

WIFI AND CUSTOMER SERVICE PROBLEMS
My colleague and I booked this hotel for its proximity to companies we were visiting in Centro. A colleague had stayed here last year and reported that the hotel was fine, conveniently located, but that wifi was poor and that we should be sure to request a room in the part of the hotel that had wifi. We did so, and the request was clearly recorded in the hotels.com booking. On arrival after 18 hours travelling, we waited 20 minutes to be checked in. My colleague and I speak no Portuguese, and the receptionist spoke no English, so trying to communicate our need for rooms with wifi was a frustrating exercise. There didn't seem to be anyone else around who could understand English. It did not appear that anyone had seen our explicit request for rooms with wifi and we were fobbed off with a comment that the whole hotel had wifi.

Well, it didn't. The next morning I could not log on and later that day after a full day of meetings, I reported it to reception. The woman I dealt with was blasé and lacking in understanding of my need for connectivity in order to work. She merely gave me a key for another room and told me to check that, which I did. Wifi connection worked in that room - but it stank of cigarette smoke so I would not take it. I returned to reception and this time dealt with a manager who gave me another 2 rooms to try out. In one, the wifi did not work. In the other, it did. He had told me to call reception to move my bags, which I did - no response. I tried all the numbers for reception and then the number for the management, where someone hung up on me as soon as I spoke. So. I moved my bags myself - at this stage, hot and sweaty because the hotel is not properly air conditioned, the lift is unbelievably slow and the corridors I was roaming in search of wifi were about 28 degrees and humid like a shower room - and returned to reception to tell them I was in the new room. I waited behind the usual queue of other guests and eventually got the receptionist who could not speak English. Cue more frustrating exchanges while I made sure everything was in order. Returned to my room, and realised on entering the bathroom, that it was full of wet, used towels, the sink was filthy - the room had not been cleaned.

Called reception again, knowing this would be a fruitless exercise, braved the steamy corridors and slow left yet again to go back down to reception and tell them face to face what was going on. At this point, I was livid. It had been almost 2 hours since I had returned from my meetings, so I had lost almost two hours of work catching up on emails and calls and had no idea when I was going to be able to get online. (I should point out that 3G coverage in Rio is terrible, so mobile connectivity doesn't get you anywhere either).

After another frustrating conversation with the receptionist where I asked to speak to the manager (she seemed to understand that and told me he was gone to dinner), another manager (I think) called Daniel appeared. He got the full brunt of my frustrations of having to try 4 rooms before getting wifi access, only to find that that room was dirty. He was the only person I dealt with who understood and tried to help. He called housekeeping to clean the room - they were at dinner as well, so while I was waiting he tried to get me set up in the so-called business centre (which is really just an internet cafe - you can't use your own laptop there, only their desktops, even if you try to use cable). I eventually got access to one of their wifi networks, which was sporadic but better than nothing, and eventually, almost three hours after I had first tried to log on, I managed to get into my room and work with a proper wifi connection.

OTHER PROBLEMS AND GENERAL COMMENTS
Aside from wifi and customer service, the hotel has other problems. The aircon is hopeless. It is loud and ineffective in the rooms, and non-existant in the corridors and most of the common areas. Breakfast is OK, but the juice is watered down and over-sweetened and the coffee is poor. The rooms are pretty grotty with dust in all the corners and bed covers that smell of old sweat (I took mine off the bed immediately, in both of my rooms). My first room seemed to be a disabled access one as it was huge with an open shower which wasn't very nice. My second room was so small, there was no room for a bedside table on one side of the bed. No visible means of getting laundry done and since no one speaks English, no point in asking.

We had meetings elsewhere in Brazil and left Rio after two nights in this hotel to return later in the week. Fortunately we had booked another hotel in Rio for the second part of our stay. That hotel has been a great experience (see my other review). There is no way I would ever stay in Hotel Atlantico Business again, for business or for pleasure.

The lack of courtesy of the employee responsible for controlling access to breakfast and the location (an inconvenient place at night), were responsible for not recommending this hotel.
The rude man did not want to let me enter the breakfast room 3 minutes before the time limit and he told me that, if I insisted, I should know that I would have to eat very fast because they were about to close. So, in order to avoid problems, I just got a banana and left soon. To my surprise the arrogant guy told me that I could not go out of the room with the banana. Conclusion: I had to eat it standed up beside the ignorant and unprepared employee.
