This is a delayed review. We stayed at Castelinho 38 in May of 2015. We had a very nice stay. I wouldn't NECESSARILY describe it as a boutique hotel, as the rooms are more what I would call 'rustic'. The room was clean and nice, although small, with a small bathroom. Adequate, though, since I'm not traveling somewhere to hang... More

Rooms are nice and clean. Great communal spaces with free coffee and tea outside. Really friendly and helpful staff! Good buffet breakfast with plenty of choices. Nice and (relatively) safe neighbourhood with several bars and restaurants close by. Free tram to the city center, metro within 15 min walk and busses around the corner.

The hotel has lovely views over Rio de Janeiro and the breeakfast were good, however the room itself was bizarre. The bedroom was perched above the bathroom with a very steep staircase up the bed, with a tiny rail stopping you falling down into the narrow entrance area by the bathroom, obviously from reading reports other rooms were spacious but... Castelinho38 is a beautiful converted manor house tucked away in Santa Teresa. It was the perfect place to come back to and chill out in after long days exploring the hustle and bustle of Rio. Olindo, went above and beyond to help us plan and organise our adventures, both in Rio and once we had left.

This was a charming hotel with lovely rooms that were clean and spacious. The breakfast was delicious with many options including fresh fruits and the famous Brazilian cheese bread, freshly made. The hosts were helpful and made our stay very comfortable.

Very nice place, 10 minutes from SDU airport. Friendly staff, big rooms. The breakfast terrace is awesome, with a nice view of the city. Neighborhood is calm and has a couple of cool restaurants around. Not near the beaches, but definitely worth it!

Staying in Santa Teresa

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Teresa
Santa Teresa is a bohemian enclave hosting many local artists’ studios. The narrow, winding streets of this neighbourhood were revitalised years ago, and visitors can now stroll through this area to view magnificent mansions dating back to the late 19th and early 20th century. A highlight not miss: Museu Chacará do Céu, a former mansion turned museum which houses works by prominent Brazilian modern artists.
