Fantastic location overlooking Natal’s beautiful beach.
Stayed for 5 nights last week .
Incredible value . We got a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful luxury stateroom with a massive balcony overlooking the beach .
The stay included an excellent buffet with a vast choice of both local and international dishes .
The pool area was excellent with live music every night .
Staff were helpful and friendly and the whole experience was great .
For value for money I would recommend The Esmeralda Praia Hotel as one of the best stays I’ve experienced

Hotel is more family oriented and economic friendly. The staff is 10/10 and had many options to eat (all inclusive bf, lunch and dinner). The only issue was that the rooms could have been upgraded. For the price we paid, it is a real bargain. But I can see how people can not give it 5 stars. Kids running around, outdated bathroom and loud music until 10pm are not for everyone but they were fine for us. Gym could be a lot better. It was in a 10x15 room with outdated machines.

Horrible decoration, poor service and no maintenance. Due the music comming from the pool area it is impossible to rest in the rooms. The only favorable point is the location, but there are other hotels in the same place (certainly better!)

I have just returned after a two week stay at the Esmeralda Praia Hotel in Natal. It was our first time in Brazil and we were there for the first phase of the World Cup Finals.

We had an amazing stay there. The hotel is in a fabulous location right beside the wonderful and unspoilt Ponta Negra beach. We were full board and the food was very good and varied throughout our stay. Many of the staff didn't speak English but they did everything that they could to make our stay as good as possible.

Well, this hotel was a waist of money and time! Let me begin with the start.

When we arrived, we were suprised that no-one in the reception knew english. Well, we finally spoke to a receptionist who knew a little english. We got checked in, and the receptionist told us that we had to pay immediately for our stay, and one night was complimentary because we booked the hotel a while ago. So that was a nice surprise :). We decided to use what we saved on the free night on drinks during our stay.

The room was big and very comfortable (we had asked for tho single beds, but we got a kingsize bed), and is was good to have a room so high up in the hotel and to have a balcony (the balcony didn't have a table, only two chairs). The view was amazing! Overseeing the pool-area and the ocean.

We were told when we booked the hotel that it was an all inclusive hotel (fullpensjon) and we were surprised to know that only the meals were included. Everything you ordered beside the buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner was put on the room and we had to pay for it by check-out (even all drinks, even water).

Whenever I needed to ask something in the reception, I had to bring my phone to use google translate to communicate. BTW the internet is complimentary and has a very good reception, so that was positive.

The hotel is terrible noisy, a lot of children and the horrible water-aerobic during the day. Both the instructors and the participants were screaming and shouting so if you wanted to relax in the afternoon in the hotelroom, this was impossible. During dinner there was a live-band playing and the volume was on max and they played noisy songs (not quiet and relaxing dinner-songs). It was impossible to have a conversation, unless you screamed at each-other.

The good side is that the hotel is located just with a small road dividing the hotel from the beach, and the beach is beautiful! Be aware of the tide in Ponta Negra, it will be to flooded to stay at the beach around 3 PM.

The food they made for the buffet was horrible. Steer away from the meat. All meat was chewy and dry, so unless you want a jaw-exercise you should go for the chicken. The chicken was so and so safe, only a few times they made it dry. The fruit they served was very good! That and most of the potato dishes was good. And the lunch servings done on the grill was good as well. There were two very friendly waiters. One knew a little english and made an effort to know more. He talked a lot to us and was very pleasant. His name began with a W, but i can't remember what it was. Another one didn't speak english, but he still talked a lot to us and was funny and pleasant.

I washed some of my clothes using the laundry service at the hotel. When I got it back they had made a lot of holes in my shirt. They handled this very professional. I got back the money the shirt cost (after a lot of communication problems because no-one knows english. It was better when a receptionist named Christina took over. She talked very good english and was very helpful), but I still needed to pay for the laundry of the shirt.

When we was going to check-out, we got the bill for what we had ordered during our stay. We had a very good overview of what we was going to pay, and was surprised to get a bill double what we had thought. We went over the bill and found out that they had added the "free" night. We asked why this was (the receptionist could only speak a few words english) and he told us that there was no free night. We had checked in with another receptionist, and I tried to explain who that was. He said that it was him who had checked us in and that he had never said anything about a free night (he wouldn't listen when we explained that it was not him, but some other guy who did the check-in). He called his supervisor and the free night was rejected.
If we had known this, we wouldn't have ordered that much to drink during our stay and we felt cheated.

I think that the hotel is probably good for people who know portugues and for family with small children, but if you like your food tasty and good, you should probably go eat at a restaurant.

I got a terrible impression of Natal, and that is so sad because I've heared it is a beautiful place.

And do not take the arranged trip to Pipa. We spent 5 hours getting there (which normally takes 1 hour) because the driver did a full tour guide around the area and dropped us off at places where we were supposed to buy stuff. And we only had 1,5 hours to enjoy Pipa beach before we had to leave for Ponta Negra again.

Excellent service, great swimming pool, really nice staff, entertainment organized in the hotel in the evenings, happy hour - free snacks in the afternoon, breakfast included even on the 1st day when we arrived before 7 a.m. and get the room and breakfast immediately despite the 11 am check in time, free Internet, good bye gift - Esmeralda is your best choice in Natal – Maravilhoso!!!

We stayed at this hotel for 3 days, worst mistake of my life.
Breakfast is ok but normally chaotic, fruit juices at breakfast (unless you order and pay for it) are a very weak watery misture.
During the week the entertainment alternate between different theme nights and the food follow the theme, music is awfully loud and unfortunately the food is not even close the "Asian", "Mexican" or whatever theme they choose, but it is a rubbery tasteless lump of something uneadible.
The rooms are comfortable, but showers have no power at all.
There are two major problems that in my view ruined our stay there:
One of the nights at 11:30pm there was kids running up and down the stairs (Heath and safety?!) playing around and shouting, I come out of the room and politely asked them to keep the noise down, it last 2 minutes, taking in consideration that my husband had a early phone call the following day I lost my cool and went to the reception, the kids' patented were no where to be seen.
My husband left one night before me, as I was staying a little longer with my my family, I ordered a taxi to take him to the airport, up on arrival the taxi asked for me at the reception and mentioned that he was taking us to the airport, we got in the car and then two guys who worked at the hotel came after us to stop the taxi as we haven't checked out, it looked like a scene from a comedy show or something, everybody was looking at us like we were dishonest people, they had our card details and our stay was paid in full when we booked the hotel. I am convinced that they went to our room to check if the rest of the luggage was there. My husband left only with a small hand luggage, there was no reason to come after us like we were criminals. Was very embarrassing to say at least.
