The hotel suited us fine as we were only there for one night and it was very close to the bus stop (the shuttle to the airport). The rooms were adequate, as was the breakfast - don't expect anything great!

This is a nice hotel located in what was once a very dodgy and dangerous part of the city but nowadays after a lot of work by the police it is relatively safer but don't let your guard down especially at night as dodgy characters are close by especially lots and lots of homeless people. Located about a block from...

There's nothing special about a stay here but it's good enough for a short stay in SP. The location is very convenient, right near Praca Republica and the Republica metro station. It's a short walk through the square to the pedestrian shopping precinct and the old town. But as noted by others it is not recommended to walk around the...

The location is very central, near to Praca da Republica. This is something of a two-edged sword; it is close to lots of bars, restaurants, and important sights, but also near many sex shops, porn theatres, etc. Not an area to bring young children. The hotel itself is OK. Not luxurious by any means, but adequate for a couple of...

Hotel Itamarati is located about 1 block from Praca da Republica, easily walkable from airport bus terminal, a main reason why I chose it. It is an older building, needing upgrades, but generally clean and apparently safe and provides reliable accommodation. Staff are efficient, but not particularly friendly or welcoming. Rooms are smallish and overall the hotel is a bit...

Staying in Republica

Neighbourhood Profile
Part of the historical centre of São Paulo, República was once a fancy residential area. República Square holds a craft and food fair every weekend, right by the subway entrance. Nearby, one of the neighbourhood’s main attractions is the Italian Building, where you can see the city from the 42nd floor. The Copan Building also deserves a close look, with 1,160 apartments and a huge floor area that inspired filmmakers and other artists. To get the feeling of São Paulo in the beginning of the 1900s, visit the Municipal Theatre – you will be amazed by its architecture. The area also features several galleries. República is a great area to explore during daytime, but use caution if visiting alone at night.
