We stayed at 1a chalet, Feb half term 2023. The chalet is privately owned, Mark the owner has been brilliant. Really helpful and reassuring, he was very accommodating and really tried hard to ensure our first ski trip went to plan. Always communicated well with me, and offered advice when it was needed- Thankyou mark !!! It was our first skiing holiday, and we went with another family, we had a party of 10 (6 children and 4 adults) the 2 younger kids stayed on blow up beds in the adult rooms - which isn’t ideal, but it worked out fine, and they were happy enough. The older kids had their own rooms and was happy with their rooms. The chalet had everything you needed to ensure a pleasant stay. It was plenty big enough, and didn’t feel crammed in the communal area. We ate at the on site restaurant - which was terrible. Firstly we were 2 chairs short, and stood up for the Majority of the meal- we had to share with the younger ones when the food arrived. We got served raw chicken with 2 meals (chicken burger / chicken nuggets) and the rest of the meals were inedible. We left half way through, and didn’t get served a chicken meal, and didn’t want to finish off any meals as a result. The owner wanted us to pay for the meals that weren’t uncooked and drinks. He asked us to leave and come back so the other customers didn’t notice. After debates we agreed to pay for the drinks only and to pay before we leave. The owner was very rude, and didn’t seem bothered that he served us raw chicken. As a result the mum was unable to ski the next day due to spending most of her day back and forth to the toilet. Which was a shame and spoilt it for her, the owner was not apologetic and was only bothered about us paying for the drinks ! The other facilities - pool, sauna and hot tub were great- the kids enjoyed a night there, they were very strict about jumping in the pool. The games room was good- there were plenty of arcades if you wanted to play. The shuttle bus was fine. You needed to make sure you booked and was on the ball with it- otherwise all the slots got filled up pretty quick and with 10 people you couldn’t leave it till last minute. The manager offered us a discount if we came back and booked directly through them - which is good, but if we came back we might look at staying somewhere More central. The kids could have done with a little break during skiing to chill out so would have been nice to have the opportunity to go and chill out during the day.

We stayed in half term, Feb 2022, party of 9, 2 families, chalet Katserina. Shuttle bus reliable, just need to ensure you are booked on, on site restaurant a bit hit and miss on quality but friendly staff and nice vibe- we ate there 3 times. Chalet itself had stunning views to the mountains and really clean and well equipped but marked down for living room furniture- only 2 small couches- needed at least one more for comfort. Also beds were very creaky! The staff on the complex were all really helpful- thank you! Used the pool and sauna twice.

Apartments are an average size for two people. We booked for 4, 2 adults and 2 children. The children’s bed turned out to be a sofa bed with a mattress no thicker than an inch that neither of them would sleep on. So we all had to squash into a small double bed. Not ideal for anyone. The apartments only accommodate for 2 people so only 2 plates etc so to eat in we had to share or take turns washing up in between. There is not anywhere to hang wet clothing, not even any hooks apart from 2 for towels on the bathroom door. There is no safe for any belongings to be kept secure. The bathroom drains often smell very badly on a daily basis. The pool is heated but feels pretty cold and is one depth all over, far too deep for my young kids to play in without clinging onto myself and my wife the entire time. The hotel itself is clean and staff are friendly and helpful. The bus drivers to and from the hotel don’t speak any English and aren’t particularly helpful and are often flippant about timings. Overall I think the place could do with an update with some thought into the needs of the guests.

Response from Chamkoria Chalets, General Manager at Chamkoria Chalets
Responded 29 Oct 2020
Sorry to hear that you did not think the apartment was big enough for you. You booked a 1 bedroom apartment which is one of the smallest apartments we have and is generally for 2 people but can sleep up to 4 people if you want to use a sofa-bed. You could have booked any of our bigger apartments (2 bedroom, 3 bedroom or 4 bedroom) but they are more expensive of course. The pool is heated to the recommended temperature of 29-30 degrees and is regulated by a thermostat. Kids must be supervised at all times in the pool area. Our shuttle bus drivers have a basic level of English but unfortunately it can be very difficult to find drivers in the area with a good command of the English language. These apartments are all privately owned and are decorated & furnished according to owner's tastes so each apartment varies a little. If you book with us directly and let us know if you have any specific requirements for an apartment we would be happy to help and offer you the most suitable apartment or chalet for your stay.

We visited as a family of 6 adults having booked our three bed, two bathroom apartment via AirBnB. The complex is around 5km from the centre of Borovets set in stunning countryside with views of the mountains on a clear day. We skied for 4 out of our 5 day/ 6 night stay and the free shuttle buses were punctual and easy to book. We only had to take a taxi (30 lev/£15 for 6 people) on three occasions - twice because we left it late too late to book and once after being out for NYE. The apartment was warm and comfortable, very well equipped and very clean. We had an unexpected change of bedding and fresh towels half way through our stay too which was nice. The shop has the basics (bread, butter, wine, beer, soft drinks, salty snacks, chocolate, dried pasta, eggs and some tinned stuff etc) and we had breakfast in the complex one day, which was ok for the price. All the staff are very friendly and helpful. Whilst we were there we emailed our host to let him know the toaster wasn’t working (honestly because we didn’t want him to think we were responsible) but to our surprise he arranged for the management of the complex to provide us with a replacement the next day. We paid around £100 each for 6 nights which was amazing value for money in our opinion, and would definitely stay again. In fact, we’re already planning our return to Borovets for Jan 2021!

Chamkoria Chalets gets the basics right. Good quality flats, well equipped with WiFi and modern facilities. A sauna, perfect for after skiing. Free shuttles to Borovets. Beyond the basics, you’re spinning the wheel of fortune. Sometimes, this place runs like clockwork. At other times, the odds aren’t quite in your favour. For example: do the gods of safe and convenient minibuses smile upon you today? Or will you have to wait forty minutes for the next shuttle home from the slopes? And, once you’ve hauled your snowy, soggy carcass on board, will you be hurled about the icy backroad to the chalet? Will you nearly leave that backroad if your driver happens to be more interested in texting than in where he’s going? Similarly, if you’ve hired a car or are taking a taxi (30 Levs one way for 6 people - very reasonable), will the journey take 15 minutes? Or will the road be an unploughed snowy death trap? (This isn’t necessarily the fault of the Chalet - but worth bearing in mind if you dare travel without snow chains.) It would also be nice to be able to use the spa facilities before midday or after 7.30pm. And bear in mind you can’t easily check out until the reception is staffed from 8am. This is a great place to stay, reasonably priced. But gird your loins.

Booked a 3 bed apoartment and was not disappointed. Also arranged airport transfers with them as well as a welcome pack if food and drink. Very clean and well presented. Used the pool and sauna which was a nice addition. The free bus transfers to and from Borovets worked well. A 15 minute drive away but this was not a problem, a taxi back from Borovets after the free shuttle bus finished was 30lev or £15 which wasn't too bad. I would recommend staying here.

The chalet had magnificent views with just a short journey away from Borovets, however when issues arose such as no hot water in the main bathroom, broken heater in a bedroom and lack of bus service, the staff were uninterested to address the problems and rude. Also the restaurant offered a limited pizza or pasta (cold) menu on a few nights without warning due to being booked out to a private group. Unfortunately as we were not notified about this there was no bus service to take us into the town for alternative eating venues, so had to pay for two taxis due to the group size. Upon checking out we were also told we had to pay tourist tax of which we had not been informed about. To end on a positive note the chalet was clean, well equipped and with good facilities i.e. pool/sauna.

The hotel is at a very beautiful and quiet remote location 5km away from Borovetz. They offer free shuttle from/to the center. Apartments are nice and clean. There is a restaurant in the hotel, but the prices are quite high and the quality of the food is not that good. It is better to dine out in Borovetz or cook your own food in the apartment. There is a small grocery store in the hotel, with very limited variety - mainly water, wine, and pasta. The hotel has a nice pool, sauna and a jacuzzi, however the working hours are not that convenient (noon to 8 p.m.). There is also a game room with some arcade games which is open until 10:00 p.m.

brilliant apartments. we stayed in a 3 bed apartment for 4 people, it was very spacious having an en suite in every bedroom. the bar and restaraunt is good, good food and good value for money. swimming pool/sauna/jacuzzi area is very clean and welcoming. good little shop opposite reception for bits and bobs that are well priced. free shuttle buses to and from borovets that run all day that are great, only downside is the wifi can be not so good, which might be a good thing for some! and reception is closed from 8pm til 8am and the security guard in place speaks little to none english and is not the most helpful. also love having log burners in the rooms. will be back soon hopefully!

Great place and service. The staff is very polite and rooms are very new and clean. Everything was fine and our holiday was very pleasant! The apartment has everything you need. (except we didn't have microwave. don't know why) But if you just carry your food and cook you'll be fine. There is a bistro but it is very small. So this hotel is perfect for families and couples for skiing and to have some dinner at the fireplace at the evening.
